Earlier in the thread, someone mentioned a non-standard practice of dumping the ice cream from bad cones into a bowl in the fridge and straining out the cone pieces before putting it back in the soft-serve machine. I could have been clearer, but I've got fuzzy gluten brain and it made sense at the time.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Crackers
tea-and-crumpets replied to Kelleybean's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glutino makes ritz clones. Expensive but tasty. I also like the crunchmaster crackers. -
I occasionally get hot fudge sundaes at DQ and I have to reluctantly admit that they are making me sick. I'm not full-on glutened but I do get anxiety issues after eating there. DQ is a special treat and I make 95% of the rest of my food from scratch, so I know that the sundae is causing the problem. I'm wondering if my local DQ does the straining thing...

ARCHIVED California Pizza Kitchen
tea-and-crumpets replied to pshifrin's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
That's great that they are paying attention to the CC risks. When they were testing the menu in my area I was told that they had no consideration for CC, used the same pans, all that. It's great to have another option. Thanks for the update. -
ARCHIVED Job Interviews--How To Bring Up Celiac?
tea-and-crumpets replied to pinktulip103's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There is a wheat-free bakery/restaurant in Evanston, near Northwestern, called Rose's. Maybe that would be an option when you're there? It's not fancy, but the food is good. -
No, they won't be the way you remember, but I promise you, after a while you'll forget. You really will. I've been gluten free for ten months and I really enjoy the baked goods I make. The things I used to eat are slipping away. We humans have a way of adapting to the situation in front of us! And, I'll tell you -- Kinnikinnick donuts taste like regular...

ARCHIVED Great Value Original Liquid Eggs

Remember, too, that you've only been off gluten for three weeks. It's possible that you were just having a bad healing day. Feel better! -
ARCHIVED The Gluten Was "fermented" Out Of The Sauce
tea-and-crumpets replied to Dee777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ugh. Even if I believed them about being gluten free, I wouldn't buy their stuff after that nasty email. There is no need for condescension when someone is merely trying to be sure that what they put in their body is safe. -
ARCHIVED Need Help Badly!
tea-and-crumpets replied to mikyraso's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Would you let your daughter stay with her grandmother if she only got a little rat poison every time she visited? You are the one in charge now. You have the power in this situation. As someone said above, you have the obligation to keep your daughter from getting sick as best you can. If your mother-in-law wants to see her grandchild, she can stop... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Use Penzey's Spices?
tea-and-crumpets replied to shayre's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmm. I wonder if you're sensitive to alliums -- the ground onion and the Fox mix are chock full of them. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Use Penzey's Spices?
tea-and-crumpets replied to shayre's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Penzey's for everything and have never reacted. Which ones are you having trouble with? If you have a problem with peppers, that might be it. A lot of their blends have dried peppers (versus peppercorns.) -
Did Anyone Exhibit Ocd While Glutened?
tea-and-crumpets replied to speedy2056's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
 The garage door was one of my OCD focus points. A few years ago I even made my poor sainted husband call the local police and have them drive by because I was so certain that I had forgotten to close it after we'd both left for work. I'd get halfway to work (when I could work) and be absolutely convinced that I'd left it open or that maybe it... -
Did Anyone Exhibit Ocd While Glutened?
tea-and-crumpets replied to speedy2056's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had a generalized anxiety since I was a teenager, really debilitating stuff. Been on and off the medication and therapy merry-go-round for years. After I went gluten free, I had a few really bad panic attacks, worse than I had ever had. I almost went to the hospital. Since then, though, my anxiety has just disappeared completely. That says to me that... -
ARCHIVED Few Questions About Certain Foods?
tea-and-crumpets replied to JaniceS's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am a big fan of the San-J tamari. We buy several bottles at a time because we go through it so quickly. I did not like La Choy. The taste was just not good to me. They also have dipping sauces that are pretty good. I found the best price on it at Whole Foods, surprisingly. I need to see if I can buy it in bulk. Also, make sure you are buying... -
ARCHIVED Nightshade Free?
tea-and-crumpets replied to tea-and-crumpets's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for pointing this out. I haven't noticed any problems with corn or rice (my main grains), but I do get really sick when I eat tomatoes and potatoes. But if I don't get better I know what to try next. -
I am going to go nightshade free, at least for a couple of weeks. I have been off gluten for more than nine months and a lot of my symptoms are better but after doing some food tracking nightshades seem to upset my stomach as well. Anyone else nightshade free? Any tips? My favorite foods are Mexican and Italian, plus I love peppers of all kinds. This...

ARCHIVED Does Anybody Stuggle To Talk When Glutened?
tea-and-crumpets replied to speedy2056's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel like I "lose" words when I get glutened. I also find myself using the wrong word. My husband will look at me funny and then I can usually pull the right one out of my brain. Dealing with this right now as I got glutened over the weekend, ugh. I have been tested for ADD but do not have it. -
ARCHIVED Okay, So I've Been Gluten Free For About A Week Now...
tea-and-crumpets replied to Harpgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My symptoms were all digestive, too, but now I get terrible joint aches if I get CC'd. I'll have those even without the digestive stuff. I think the body is just better able to recognize the threat and throws out all the stops. -

ARCHIVED Advice Please On Cost Of Gluten Free Bread
tea-and-crumpets replied to Harpgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
GlutenFreeManna, would you be interested in starting a topic talking about how you coupon gluten free? I saw your list up above and I'm amazed. I'm just trying to get into couponing and it's pretty demoralizing how many coupons are for stuff I could never eat. (And probably don't want, but you know what I mean!) -
ARCHIVED Advice Please On Cost Of Gluten Free Bread
tea-and-crumpets replied to Harpgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Make sure to shop around a little. My local health food store has Udi's for more than $1 less a loaf than Whole Foods. -
I have had a diagnosed anxiety disorder since I was a child, but I had two or three of the worst panic attacks of my life after I went off gluten. I was being very careful and know I wasn't getting CC'd. After a couple of months they went away and haven't come back and I feel like overall my anxiety is maybe twenty percent of what I suffered before. Hang...

ARCHIVED Something Must Be Really Wrong With Me.
tea-and-crumpets replied to RachelisFacebook's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It happens. You can't take it back. All you can do is move forward from here. I do wonder if somehow you'd gotten glutened a little bit before you went on your binge. Before I was diagnosed, I had binges like that all the time. Once I got off gluten, I suddenly found that I didn't inhale a whole bag of chips or half a loaf of bread. Maybe something... -
ARCHIVED Looking For gluten-free And Dairy Free Chicken Pot Pie Recipe

I have made this recipe multiple times: Open Original Shared Link It is very good! It definitely captures that pot pie flavor. I used dairy milk but the author uses coconut milk. -
ARCHIVED Help, My Daughter Was Glutened
tea-and-crumpets replied to divamomma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Everything from Tootsie is gluten free except for the one type of cookie they make. That says, to me, that there's probably a pretty low chance of CC.
