ARCHIVED Do You Eat Foods Produced On Shared Lines?
tea-and-crumpets replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have gotten sick from eating something that was produced on a shared line. I am willing, though, to eat something from a shared facility. It really is an individual thing. -
I like Better Batter very much. If you buy from the website that shall not be named, that shares a name with a river, and you have a Prime account, you can buy 2.5 lb boxes without having to pay for shipping. I bought some Jules Gluten Free recently and, thought I haven't played with it as much as Better Batter, I like it as well. That one you have to...

ARCHIVED Homemade Spaghetti Sauce
tea-and-crumpets replied to artboys's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Did you use the brown sugar before the celiac diagnosis? If you were baking with it, and stuck the same measuring cup from flour to sugar, that could have contaminated it. Also, do you have a new colander? Wooden spoon? I suspect it was the gluteny noodle, to be honest. Still, there are many other vectors of contamination. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED List Of Cosmetic Ingredients To Avoid?
tea-and-crumpets posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is there a list somewhere of which ingredients to avoid in cosmetics? They're never helpfully listed as barley wheat rye or oats, unfortunately. I asked at a Bath and Body Works if they had a list of gluten free products. The manager told me no, but that she was celiac too and hardly has any problems. Then she told me how she eats at the McDonald... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Talk To My Boyfriend About Kissing?
tea-and-crumpets replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's a little different because we're married, but my husband knows that when he eats gluten, at work or what have you, he has to brush before he gets home. It's the first thing I ask when he walks in the door and leans in. Your boyfriend should be willing to brush his teeth for you. If you had a peanut allergy, would he smooch you after eating a... -
ARCHIVED Acid Reflux
tea-and-crumpets replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think it will just take time. Acid reflux was my first really noticeable celiac symptom, though of course I didn't recognize it at the time. It took me probably four months before I noticed that most of my acid reflux was gone. I've been gluten free now for almost six months and I only have a couple of days a month where I'm in enough pain to take some... -
ARCHIVED Pita/flat Bread
tea-and-crumpets replied to mtcross's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have had these pitas: Open Original Shared Link I got them at Fattoush, a (mostly) gluten free restaurant in Chicago. (The only gluteny products are regular pita brought in from elsewhere, and a baklava.) They were excellent. -
ARCHIVED Dinner Roll Recipe
tea-and-crumpets replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would substitute the white rice flour. It's a bit gritter than the brown rice, but I think it would work. -
ARCHIVED Fructose Malabsorption
tea-and-crumpets replied to tea-and-crumpets's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for the info! The concept of loading makes a lot of sense to me, as some days are worse than others. I did consider nightshade sensitivity, but I don't have any problems at all with potatoes, so I discounted it. I find myself very sad at the thought of losing onions and tomatoes. Wasn't gluten enough? -
Does anyone also suffer from fructose malabsorption? I have been gluten free for almost six months. I'm quite strict in my house: no gluten at all, replaced all of the pans, all of that. I rarely eat out of the house and then only at restaurants that are definitely gluten free. Yet still I have some bad days. More good days than bad, I'd say, but I've...

ARCHIVED Is There An App For That?
tea-and-crumpets replied to WitchyWoman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've seen a couple, but I have had much better luck just using my iphone to google 'product name' gluten free when I'm in the store. And I don't have to pay anything extra to do it! What I pay is already more than enough. -
ARCHIVED Strawberry Cupcakes
tea-and-crumpets replied to zus888's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The gelatin helps with the structure of the cake. May I ask what about gelatin bothers you? -
ARCHIVED Why Can't She Have It In Moderation?
tea-and-crumpets replied to JustForJen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sure, she can have cake and stuffing -- she just has to have gluten free cake and stuffing. Pretty much anything she wants can be replicated. I can make cakes now that even my gluten eating family think taste just as good and the stuffing I made last Thanksgiving tasted just like my mom's homemade. It's just food, you know? I'm not willing to risk my... -
ARCHIVED Glutened Again By So Called "gluten Free"
tea-and-crumpets replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was actually looking at the Lays list today, since I wanted to try the Tostios scoops chips. They say specifically that Lays Classic are gluten free AND that they have tested to less than 20 ppm. Open Original Shared Link Is this new? I don't remember anything beyond Stax being tested before. If it is new, maybe you got a batch from before? ... -
I have dreams where someone forces me to eat gluten to make me sick! I think I might rather have your dreams I don't miss specific foods surprisingly. I thought that I would, but I'm to the point where if I want something, I can make it, and if I don't want to make it then I guess I didn't want it so bad after all. I do miss convenience and spontanaiety...

ARCHIVED Gluten'ed At Pf Changs
tea-and-crumpets replied to quincy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Did it come out on the gluten free plate? It's unfortunate that they gave you the runaround. I once got a noodle in a takeout order from there. I called the restaurant and the manager was very apologetic and refunded my money for that entree and even sent out a $10 gift card. I said not to, because I was calling to inform them and not to get money,... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Pizza Takeout, Nw Chicago Burbs
tea-and-crumpets replied to Menic's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I was told by Lou Malnati's today that they do not have dedicated pans or work areas for their gluten free pizza. So please be careful! They also said they are working on perfecting a gluten free crust, which is pretty exciting. I believe California Pizza Kitchen at Woodfield has a gluten-free menu, but again, no dedicated pans or work areas. There's... -
I have been gluten free since early October, barring a couple of glutenings. Such a learning curve! After being off gluten and now being in the middle of a round of probiotics, I'm finally getting away from the big D, which I am very happy about. I'm still having problems with bathroom urgency. When I have to go, I have to GO, and there's little waiting...

Thank you for posting this! I have been considering going to that exact location myself. It's in the same area as the Whole Foods, correct?

ARCHIVED Betty Crocker Gluten-Free Devil's Food Mix
tea-and-crumpets replied to Diane-in-FL's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There's a thread somewhere else about this book, but if you're going to use the BC Cake Mixes, look for The Cake Mix Doctor Bakes Gluten Free. I borrowed a copy from the library and like it enough that I am going to buy my own. I'm pretty sure there's a recipe in there about making a crust with cake mix. -
ARCHIVED The Cake Mix Doctor Recipe Book
tea-and-crumpets replied to Mizzo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I borrowed a copy from the library and I love it so much that I'm going to get my own copy. I've made three things from the book and they all turned out wonderfully. A lemon cake, an orange cake, and some muffins. -
ARCHIVED Snickers Peanut Butter Squared

ARCHIVED Question About Chebe Bread Mix
tea-and-crumpets replied to Monklady123's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

ARCHIVED "gluten Free Pebbles" I Think Not!
tea-and-crumpets replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have not had a problem with Fruity or Cocoa Pebbles, and I am sensitive enough to react to something that was made on the same lines as other things with wheat. The boxes do say Gluten Free and have at least since October 2010, when I was diagnosed. -
ARCHIVED Did You Have Weird Symptoms When You Went Gluten Free?
tea-and-crumpets replied to CathyG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I definitely had a period of gluten withdrawal -- at one point I was so exhausted I couldn't sleep. It was wretched! But luckily, at least for me, it passed fairly quickly. I hope it passes just as quickly for you.
