ARCHIVED Furious With Stupid Doctorssalexander421 replied to MarsupialMama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I'm so sorry you are going through this! It's so sad to me when professionals threaten to take children away from parents who clearly are doing what's in the best interest of their children, and then you have children who are in the worst environment and they say they can't do anything about it...there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with our system! We were...

Thank you so much for asking this question, I've been asking myself the same question! I've been gluten free for about 10 months or so due to breastfeeding. The constipation, headaches, mouth ulcers, sleep issues, and brain fog I had struggled with most of my life were gone. I just recently started introducing gluten back into my diet and I have been feeling...

ARCHIVED Fructose Malabsorption?!?salexander421 replied to Free-CountryGirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I know my daughter is really sensitive to even cross contamination, the smallest amount can make her react. She has not been diagnosed yet, we know she has one of the genes and we're now doing a gluten challenge so we can retest her. It took us going pretty basic to see 100% results with her. I would maybe suggest just eating meats, veggies, fruits, and rice...

ARCHIVED Fructose Malabsorption?!?salexander421 replied to Free-CountryGirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I brought fructose malabsorption up with my daughter's GI. He asked me if she ate a lot of highly processed foods and I said no. He said that unless you're eating a lot of processed foods that contain high fructose corn syrup and things like that then it's not very likely to have fructose malabsorption. But, if you do suspect it the test is a very simple...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosedsalexander421 replied to trk1980's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I'm assuming they told you 3 months just to make sure you respond to a gluten free diet. But as others have already said, it is a lifelong way of eating.

ARCHIVED Sandy Bowel Movementssalexander421 replied to Kujda's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs My girls both get the grainy/sandy poo that is so hard to wipe off. Does anyone know what causes this? Does it have to do with malabsorption??

ARCHIVED 3 Yr Old Turns Into The Incredible Hulk Help!salexander421 replied to sassiskull's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs My daughter has not been diagnosed yet but she is definitely gluten intolerant. She is almost 3 and I can totally tell a difference in her moods when she's had gluten. She was irritable, extra whiny, would fly off the handle about the smallest things, clingy, and would not sit still for a second before we went gluten free. After being gluten free she was...

ARCHIVED Dealing With Celiac With A 4 Year Oldsalexander421 replied to MaryannG's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs This breaks my heart! We are still in the testing process with our almost 3 year old and our 16 month old is already gluten free and we will go through the testing process with her a little later. Me and my two girls (with the exception of my oldest going through a gluten challenge) are gluten free but my hubby is not. He tries not to eat anything in front...

ARCHIVED Husband's Blood Work Resultssalexander421 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Ok, we got my husband's bloodwork back and it was negative for celiac. Doctor wants to follow up with an endoscopy to confirm. My husband doesn't want to do an endoscopy. Even with these results being within normal range is there anything here that might imply there's a chance they could be false. Does that make sense? Here's the results, any help is appreciated...

ARCHIVED Got Me And My Husband's Test Results Backsalexander421 replied to salexander421's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Ok, good to know it's standard practice. I would just think a gene test would give you a better idea of whether or not it would even be necessary to do such an invasive procedure. We do know that our daughter has both symptoms and the DQ2 gene so it has to be coming from somewhere right? Knowing my husband, if both the blood test and endo are negative he...

ARCHIVED What Is The Genetic Test Called?salexander421 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms What is the genetic test called which tests for DQ8 and DQ2? I asked the nurse on the phone about doing the genetic test and she had no idea what I was talking about. Hoping the PA is a little more knowledgeable!

ARCHIVED Got Me And My Husband's Test Results Backsalexander421 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Me and my husband decided to go ahead and get tested for celiac disease since we found out our daughter carries one of the genes. I've been on a gluten free diet for a while now but they went ahead with the blood test and it came back negative (I was expecting this due to my diet). My husband's also came back negative which was a little of a surprise to us...

ARCHIVED Frustratedsalexander421 replied to fylgja's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I always send food with my girls and instruct their grandparents that they can only eat what I brought them. Me and my inlaws have a great relationship but I think they're afraid that if they feed them something they're not supposed to that we won't let them keep them anymore, which really they're pretty much right My parents understand it a little more...

ARCHIVED ? Newborn Celiac Diseasesalexander421 replied to mommy2jandm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs My story is VERY similar to yours! My almost 3 year old was a very fussy baby, never slept, and wanted to nurse CONSTANTLY. She also spit up a lot! Being a first time mom I just thought she was a fussy baby and never connected it with anything. I started her on solids at around 5 months (now I know that was too early)and she immediately started dealing with...

ARCHIVED Now What?salexander421 replied to TarynsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Interesting that you mention this. My girly is extremely sensitive to light and loud noises. And so is my husband who we suspect may have celiac also. Not sure if it's connected or not. I do know that bruising easy is a symptom.

ARCHIVED 4 Yr Old Daughter, Positive Blood Testsalexander421 replied to divamomma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I think it is a good idea that you and your 6 year old went ahead and got tested. That way, if either of you test positive too it will help clear up any gray area's with your other child. Our daughter is going through a gluten challenge right now so we can have her retested, we found out she has one of the genes for celiac. Me and my husband are going tomorrow...

ARCHIVED Now What?salexander421 replied to TarynsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I so feel your pain. After my girl's doctors just kinda shrugging things off as something she would grow out of we finally switched pediatricians. We knew there was a problem we just weren't quit sure what it was. We put her on a gluten free diet because I knew I was sensitive and she probably was too. At that point I had heard of celiac but didn't really...

ARCHIVED Miralax Ok While Doing Gluten Challenge?salexander421 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Does anyone know if it's ok to take miralax while doing a gluten challenge? I guess to be more specific, it's not going to affect the test results right? This might seem like a silly question I just want to make sure.

ARCHIVED Gluten Or Something Else?salexander421 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Today we started introducing gluten for a gluten challenge. We gave our little one a slice of bread at dinner. A few hours later she said her face itched and then I noticed a little rash below her bottom lip. Is this a pretty typical gluten reaction or probably something else?

ARCHIVED What Food To Challenge With?salexander421 replied to salexander421's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Thanks for the suggestions! I'm wanting to make sure she gets enough to make the tests valid, I know this is not going to be a fun process and I want to make it count. She's very sensitive, she has been reacting to possible cross contamination in a few things I thought were gluten free (some even labeled as such). I think we'll start with a piece of bread...
