  1. False positives are extremely rare with a celiac panel. She may still be getting hidden gluten or cross contamination somewhere. What types of things is she eating right now?
  2. Rice cakes are a good cheap replacement for bread. Rice is a good cheap replacement for pasta.
  3. So glad to hear you have some answers!I'm sure the news gave you mixed emotions but now you can move forward and just focus on getting your daughter healthy and happy!
  4. How long has she been gluten free? Going gluten free before the scope could cause a false negative since your body begins to heal when gluten free.
  5. Thank you! So, I'm assuming that's the same as "Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgA & IgG"??
  6. Did you have any genetic testing done? If you did you could have your daughter tested to see if she carries the same gene as you. I believe some do it with a cheek swab. If she carries the same gene/genes as you then I would go ahead and suggest the celiac panel. If she does not carry the same genes as you then she most likely does not have celiac. There...
  7. Which tests are the new DGP tests?? What does that stand for?
  8. I would say yes. I read somewhere (if you want the reference I can see if I can dig it up) that if you have celiac disease then your first degree family (parents, children, siblings) have a 1 in 22 chance of also having it.
  9. Personally since you've already started with gluten I would just hang in there! We're doing a 3 month gluten challenge and I have thought many times about just giving up and forgetting about it but, we're 1 month in already and I feel like if we bailed now the last month would be such a waste. Knowing that we ate all that gluten for nothing would make me...
  10. I find this biomarker thing very interesting! Could you share the article/literature on this??
  11. We are undergoing a gluten challenge with our almost 3 year old and our 17 month old. We feel like it's necessary to undergo the testing process although I seem to second guess that decision every day. I've read a lot of posts (mainly on a different board) about celiac typically not showing up with children this young. I've even heard some say it's not common...
  12. You have gotten some really great advice already just wanted to add, the things I would change are...check your spaghetti sauce, envirokids bars (pretty sure they have hidden dairy/casein), and probiotics for hidden dairy/casein. Maybe limit to just one type of meat and see if any of those is causing a problem. For the longest time the only meat my little...
  13. I think the whole "getting a diagnosis" thing is totally a personal decision. Some people feel the need for it while others don't. Me and my 2 daughters are all undergoing a gluten challenge at the moment. Me and my husband both feel that we need to go through the testing process. Whatever the results we will be going gluten free in the end so it probably...
  14. It sounds like you definitely need a diagnosis. I would ask your GI about going back on a full gluten diet for 3 months and then getting the celiac test redone.
  15. I think it's a good idea that you're going to go ahead with a biopsy before starting the diet. The blood tests for celiac have about a 30% chance of being false negative. With having both DQ2 and DQ8 genes this puts you at a higher risk of developing celiac disease. If I were you I would get all the testing out of the way and then try the diet and see how...
  16. Yeah, you could probably get one of those little dishwasher baskets that are made for holding, I think, bottle nipples and stuff
  17. Can anyone recommend a good GI, who is knowledgeable about celiac disease, that is in GA and is in network for blue cross blue shield?? Thanks!

    ARCHIVED Dna Test Advice

    What is this test called??
  19. I guess we are pretty fortunate, we don't really deal with stomach pains as a result of gluten. Both my girls respond with constipation which we are managing with miralax, and they both get whiny and irritable and clingy more but they never complain of pain or anything. Oh yeah, they get really tired all the time yet they have a hard time going to sleep at...
  20. My 17 month old is the same way. We were going to hold off on challenging her but since her big sister is being challenged she was sneaking gluten foods from her so we decided to challenge both at the same time. My almost 3 year old gobbles every piece of bread, every cookie, etc. while our 17 month old resists most of it. We have found chicken nuggets to...
  21. We are undergoing a gluten challenge with our almost 3 year old. The GI said 3 servings a day for 3 months. I try to make sure she has some form of gluten at every meal and at every snack, I have the mindset that if we're going to do this we need to make it count!
  22. I don't want to come across as attacking you here but, I'm just curious as to where you got this information? Many mothers of lactose intolerant babies have successfully nursed by eliminating dairy from their diets. Breastmilk contains galactose (human lactose) which is totally different than the lactose found in cow's milk. Allergy to galactose is called...
  23. Breastmilk is totally what's best for your baby!! As long as you are getting the nutrients you need, whether gluten free or not, breastfeeding is both safe and beneficial for both of you! I'm currently breastfeeding my almost 17 month old and have been gluten, dairy, soy, and egg free pretty much the whole time. I've just recently started adding a little...
