  1. Anyone? If it is DQ1 then she got it from her father and I've been trying to tell him he has a gluten sensitivity but he denies it. If I'm reading this right and it is DQ1 which a couple experts have identified as a gluten sensitive gene then I may have a case against him
  2. I've known for several months now that my daughter has the DQ8 gene. I was just looking over her lab results and looking at it it looks like she also has DQ1 but I'm not sure if I'm reading it right, can anyone help me? I'm just curious Her report states Final Results: DQA1 0102, 03MN DQB1 0302, 0602 DQ8 positive
  3. I know some people do have problems with other grains, I think I probably don't do as well if I eat a lot of grains but I don't get the same obvious symptoms as when I eat gluten. So, I would say it might be the case for some, but certainly not all.
  4. Update: I just called equate's 1-800 number and found out this item is gluten free (at least the grape flavor is). I was also happy to find out that equate is going to be putting gluten free on their labels in the near future, this is great news!
  5. Does anyone know if the equate brand infant pain relief drops (generic of tylenol) are gluten free? It's all my local walmart carries and they're cheaper than the brand name ones. Thanks!
  6. It's funny, my daughter was a very picky eater before going gluten free and she too could live on pasta and crackers. She is WAY less picky on a gluten free diet. I think it probably has to do with her tummy feeling better. I think too that when you crave gluten foods like that it is an indication that there is a problem with the particular food and a lot...
  7. Hmmm....we've tried polaner's and cascadian farms and seem to have problems with both. Maybe it was cross contamination? Maybe we'll try polaner's again and see since it's so easy to find and inexpensive.
  8. We use Kroger brand Jasmine rice and haven't seemed to have any problems with it.
  9. What kind of fruit spreads have you found to be safe??
  10. Does non celiac gluten intolerance cause malabsorption? Can anyone point me in the direction of any literature on the subject?
  11. Thank you, I'm just so glad to have all the testing behind me so I can get on with my healthy lifestyle!
  12. If you have a gluten intolerance you'll want to only consume certified gluten free oats as most oats are contaminated with gluten. That being said there are many people with gluten sensitivity that can't tolerate even the gluten free ones. I would probably suggest staying away from all oats until you start to heal, then maybe you can try them later on.
  13. Looks like that is the total serum test that test to see if you produce sufficient IgA, which you obviously produce more of. Did your doctor say ANYTHING about that number being so high? Have you been tested for rheumatoid arthritis or any of the other things you mentioned? I know those are all disorders that commonly coincide with undiagnosed celiac.
  14. Well, they called with my results today and they said there were no signs of celiac. I asked them to send me a copy of the report so I can overlook it myself. They did find gastritis, inflammation in my esophagus, and a hiatial hernia. This doesn't really surprise me given the fact that when I eat gluten I get indigestion and stomach issues. I'm not sure...
  15. I know what you mean, I think many of us would just like the diagnosis so that people don't think we're crazy. But on the other hand if all the testing, including genetic testing, ends up being negative will you feel even more like people will think you're crazy? Because even with the symptoms clearly there you could still end up testing negative on everything...
  16. Oh yeah, and if you do decide to go with the endoscopy it really is a very simple procedure. I had it done last week and just waiting on the results. I don't remember a thing and I was wide awake right after and ready to get on with my day.
  17. I know a lot on here don't put much stock in genetic testing, which I can see since it's not really much of a diagnostic tool. But, I'm all about using it as a piece of our own little puzzle. When we first started suspecting celiac with our daughter we brought her to a GI and even though she was gluten free already they wanted to blood test her. We went ahead...
  18. My 19 month old enjoys lots of fruits, applesauce (even good with pb in it if she's ok with nuts); snyder's gluten free pretzels are great and can be dipped in hummus, pb, cream chease; raisins, prunes. I'm still trying to vary our snack choices, snacks are so much harder to me than meals.
  19. Oh yeah, my girls couldn't tolerate Lactaid either. For some people it's actually the milk protein that you have problems with so just cutting out the lactose doesn't help. There's some really good milk alternatives out there. Almond milk, hemp milk, coconut milk. We use blue diamond almond milk and really like it, it has the best taste to me
  20. Is the new GI doing a scope to look for celiac? If so you would want to be still consuming gluten for an accurate result. Have you had any bloodwork for celiac, if so was it positive? Going gluten free in the beginning, it is best if you stick to a whole foods diet. Meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, rice, dairy (if you can tolerate). There's a pretty...
  21. Ok, I can live with the cramps even thought they're a little annoying. I've always had really bad menstrual cramps so I'm pretty used to them. I just wanted to make sure it's normal that they're still there Typically if I get glutened I get really gassy as the first symptom but I just wanted to make sure the cramps were supposed to take longer to go away...
  22. Just wondering, for those of you that experience menstrual like stomach cramps, how long after going gluten free did you notice not having cramps after eating?
  23. What prompted you to go gluten free? Have you been diagnosed celiac/gluten intolerant or are you just trying to see if gluten is what's causing the problem? If gluten is what's causing your symptoms I would say you're probably getting some gluten somewhere, either hidden or cross contamination. It's my experience that as you take gluten out and your...
