  1. I think if I were in your shoes I would have the genetic testing done. Having a brother with celiac does put her in a higher risk category, I think she has something like a 1 in 22 chance of having celiac or something like that. But if for some reason she doesn't carry the DQ2 or DQ8 gene then she would have a very low chance of having celiac. You can't really...
  2. I don't really have any advice for you just wanted to say my daughter has had the same thing. Part would be really dark and the rest would be a light tan color.
  3. We are planning to homeschool our girls. The decision wasn't solely based on their food issues but it did play a small role in it. Our youngest is super sensitive and I really don't see how she could go to public school and not risk cross contamination. Homeschooling is a very personal decision, some people are very passionate about their decision to stay...
  4. How can you tell wheat straw from hay? We were thinking about doing some stuff like this but now I'm reconsidering, don't want to get glutened!
  5. I think I answered my own question, whenever I take a chance it always comes back to bite me. I ate some yesterday and within minutes my eyes felt so heavy and drowsy. The next day I have a headache, starting to get indigestion, and just an overall unwell feeling. So, if you are super sensitive I would recommend staying away from this.
  6. We have been struggling with my daughter's symptoms since she was 2 months old, she is now a little over 2. She went through an unplanned 3 month gluten challenge along with her older sister which was miserable, she definitely had obvious symptoms. Her older sister tested negative and since there is no "known" history of celiac in our family the GI decided...
  7. Your total IgA was low which makes the ttG IgA test invalid, you need to have them run a ttG IgG test. You can not determine from these results whether or not you have celiac disease. From what I understand it is very common for people with celiac to be IgA deficient. Hope this helps!
  8. Does anyone know if the nuts used for this is processed on shared equipment? The label is "Olde Style" but i can't seem to find any info online. Thanks!
  9. Definitely sounds like it could be a gluten intolerance/celiac disease. I would tell your pediatrician about the family medical history and that you suspect your daughter may have celiac and that you would like to have her tested. Make sure to ask for a full celiac panel, the pediatrician may go ahead and order it or they may refer you to a gastroenterologist...
  10. That's great that your ped is on board with you! Hopefully you will get the answers you need from the test, but if you don't at least you know 100%, from doing the gluten challenge, that gluten is a problem for her. Glad that you are willing to trust your own instincts and take her off gluten either way! If the test is negative I would suggest asking the...
  11. Sorry, but I totally disagree with this. My girly started having problems at 8 weeks. We first suspected dairy and took that out of my diet and she got better but her symptoms were not completely gone. It took a super strict elimination diet to get rid of all her symptoms and finally when she was around 12 months we finally realized that gluten was at the...
  12. Hopefully you will get the answers you need! We did a gluten challenge with both of our girls. I know at the time we felt we were doing the right thing but now, looking back, I regret it. I would probably feel it was worth while if we had gotten definitive answers but we didn't. There's still a big question mark in my head. I'm not trying to discourage you...
  13. Has anyone used this coconut milk? Any issues? I found it at walmart and liked the idea that it didn't have guar gum added to it. It doesn't look like their company deals with any gluten products but you never know, just wanting to be on the safe side. I couldn't find any info online and their contact email wouldn't go through. Thanks!
  14. We just tried Rudi's for the first time. My girls were so excited and loved it but...major gluten reactions for both of them
  15. We haven't had any reactions to kroger brand items...except for the naturally prefered brand dried mango, I emailed them and they confirmed that it was manufactured on shared lines. We eat their frozen veggis all the time (just the plain ones, no seasoning or anything) with no reactions. Me and my youngest have reactions to grain fed beef so if we eat beef...
  16. Anyone??
  17. Does anyone know if this is more common in children with celiac disease? We are not at all rough with our kids and our 3 1/2 year old had this a couple weeks ago. I barely pulled on her arm and she pulled away from me and it pulled it out of joint. Then, last night, our 2 year old was playing in the living room while I was cooking dinner and we don't really...
  18. Thanks All the local farms I've contacted so far supplement their pastured hens with grains. One farm I emailed though did say theirs was a non GMO feed that they gave their chickens, so it may be worth trying. I have definitely thought about having our own chickens!
  19. I would have to disagree with everyone that says meat cannot contain gluten or that we cannot react to the grains in an animal's diet. Maybe not everyone reacts to it but I believe it is certainly possible. Just because there is not any research on it does not mean a thing, I think we already know that research is a lot of the time behind. I react to grain...
  20. Ugh, this breaks my heart. We were making cookies today (we are now grain free so all our cookies are homemade) and my 3 1/2 year old said "Mommy, when I'm big like you can I have cookies from the store?" I think she is really starting to realize that we eat a little different than others. It breaks my heart and I don't always know what to say But, fortunately...
  21. My girls are both super sensitive and they do really well with L'il Critters Calcium Gummy Bears with Vitamin D. "Contains no wheat (gluten), milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, or soy" Open Original Shared Link
  22. Neither of my girls are diagnosed celiac but they both had a positive genetic test and MAJOR improvements on a gluten free diet, we also are pretty sure our youngest has DH which would confirm a celiac diagnosis but she has not had any testing. This kind of poop looks very familiar. My girl's was often very light colored, grainy (like it had sand in it),...
  23. I know this is an old thread but just replying for anyone else who may be wondering. I've always known that me and my youngest daughter do not tolerate grain fed beef. I thought it was all beef until we tried grass fed and had absolutely no problems with it. Well, the store was out of the applegate farms turkey hotdogs that I normally buy so I opted for the...
  24. That's so crazy! I used to get really itchy from using pads, I started using cloth pads about a year ago and they don't make me itchy at all. Kinda makes me wonder! Thanks for sharing
  25. Does anyone know if this is gluten free? I just used some of my mom's because I didn't have my Tom's toothpaste with me. Pretty immediate reaction but it could have been something else in it. Frustrating!
