  1. I dutifully bought a bag of Bob's Red Mill Certified Gluten Free Oats. That was 10 months ago. They still sit on the shelf waiting for me to work up the courage to try them. But it's kinda like planning a vacation only in reverse... I have to plan for whole sick week to be able to try them. They may stay there for a number of years but at least I...
  2. Supplement with B complex and a multiple vitamin. If it isn't gone in a week or so I'd see a Dr. and find out if it is an infection.
  3. Girl! You are one Lucky Duck!!! One very Lucky Celiac Duck!!!! I'm very happy for you! You hit the jackpot in medical care and you finally have some validation! Thank you for posting such good news!!
  4. Oh my gosh, you are so smart! I actually have that book too! But I have tried to absorb so much information it gets soooo confusing. I'm happy to be near the end of the struggle. Paleo minus fruit...well..they say I can have mango and pear so I guess I will live. Thank you for all of your support Irish! I hope you are getting better too!
  5. I just want to say that it has been maddening trying to figure out what is wrong with my skin. It has taken me two years to fully figure it out. And I want to post a link for others who may be struggling with skin issues too. I have had a burning weeping oozing rash in many spots, lower back, elbows, back of neck, behind my ear, on my chin, and forehead....
  6. Yes, it can be the neurological symptoms of Celiac. Be sure you watch for any trace gluten. That may be the culprit. Also a B vitamin deficiency can cause anxiety and depression so be sure you are supplementing the vitamins Celiacs are usually deficient in. A, All the B's, Folic Acid, Calcium, magnesium, Iron, Zinc, and the vitamins D and C and E. Start...
  7. Called aphthous ulcers...one of the many symptoms of Celiac disease. My son used to get them off and on as a child...no known cause and no treatment necessary according to the Dr. They would just go away on their own. Then come back. Until we went gluten free...then they never came back again. We never made a connection until several months gluten...
  8. I'd use an electric fry pan in my room. If you have a fridge you are set. Stop at a grocery and pick up steak. chick breast, or burgers and salad. Take it with you in a cooler for lunch next day. Learn to like them cold...if you're driving. Make salads with the chick breast, meat, or burger on top. Keep the fixings in your cooler. Warm in microwave if...
  9. The last time I ate out I noticed the waiter handed out bread baskets then brought our water glasses.....handed the glass to me...with palm over the top of the glass....and fingertips touching where I would be drinking from. ARRRGH! I thought...can that put gluten in me? Paranoid of trace gluten...just not worth it to me. I didn't drink the water... Sorry...
  10. Neal, Welcome, it sounds like your life is about to get a whole lot better. Your gluten elimination sounds promising as well as your soy elimination. Be sure you get enough protein. You only mentioned juice, fruits, vegetables and soy. Are you vegetarian? I think protein helps the body heal faster. It did in my case. In the early phase of gluten elimination...
  11. Yes Iodine kills my sores....still...after 10 months gluten free.
  12. DH is aggravated by Ibuprofen or rather all NSAIDS. I read about that in many places. People often take NSAIDS to deal with the inflammation of the welts/blisters...but it is absolutely the wrong thing to do. I will see if I can find some links on it for you. I myself had DH for years before diagnosis. Because I also had severe migraine headaches and...
  13. You need to get a second opinion. Take your test results to another Dr. Get an Endoscopy and biopsies...not a colonoscopy as Skylark says...she is right. Get a full Celiac Panel. If the blood is elevated at all...it is a positive test. It is feasible and not uncommon for people to have postive bloodwork and no visible intestinal damage. But they have to look...
  14. Mountain Dew is gluten free. I wouldn't think it would be that. Most drinks are gluten free except health food juices that contain wheat grass. Otherwise I have never seen gluten in drinks. However, cross contamination is an issue. Eating in restaurants...touching places where gluten has been and then touching your food. If you are fairly new to the diet...
  15. I gave my son gummy vitamins that clearly list wheat as an ingredient. What an idiot. He told me he didn't like them...I still insisted he take them, since Celiacs are vitamin deficient. This went on for days. It wasn't until I ate them myself and had a serious reaction that I turned that damn bottle over and read the ingredients. I thought I had purged the...
  16. I ran across this question too. Nutsonline sells wheatgrass powder in the certified gluten free section. I wrote them that is wouldn't be gluten free. They still offer it there. I would never risk trying it. Wheat grass gives birth to gluten grains...I wouldn't want it in my body. I think there is a school of thought that says if the grass only is consumed...
  17. Sensitivity to gluten can increase when you go gluten free. Therefore, if there is any cross contamination or trace gluten...she may have more extreme symptoms. And migraine headaches are very commonly associated with glutenings. It is possible her reactions will be more severe to itty bitty dust particles of gluten. We cannot tolerate even trace amounts...
  18. I saw 3 heads of Dermatology at 3 different University Hospitals in 2 states. Also saw many internists....NO ONE could diagnose DH. Classic looking mosquito bite lesions, weep and ooze and burn at night. Never heal...sometimes blister sometimes welt sometimes scab...but never heal. Only diagnosis I got was neurotic excoriation. The excoriation pattern should...
  19. Yes, it can be all that and a whole lot more. Some people get massive headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and it can last from hours to days depending on how big a "hit" you got of gluten. Look for cross contaminantion or trace gluten in your life to figure out what got you. It will pass, but if you don't figure...
  20. When I looked at gummy worms for my son, they had gluten in them. Read that package. Try filling up on protein not the potatoes. Protein is more satisfying and you can eat as much as you like or need without gaining weight. Cooked vegetables, fruit and veggies...if you stick mainly to that and minimize rice and potatoes (and pretzels) you won't gain so fast...
  21. The ataxia went away completely in a few weeks after going gluten free. I would have unexplained falls, in the shower, while walking, or I would be so light headed and dizzy I had to actually think about every single step I was taking. First the dizziness went away, then the falls stopped, then I no longer felt I had to think about every step I took. It...
  22. y'all could still be penpals!
  23. Muscle pain and aching were a huge symptom for both me and my son. He was about 10 when his started. Mine started in childhood too. I was always told it was "growing pains." I wanted to know why no one had such sore legs all the time if it was just "growing pains." Seemed to me all my peers were gowing without growing pains. At 47 I found out about gluten...
  24. You had the test and it was very highly positive. You were diagnosed with Celiac. You have had a very positive reaction to the gluten free diet. You have your answer...You are Celiac by blood test, Dr.'s opinion, and your body's reactions. Now you just have to find a way to believe it. It is hard to accept sometimes but there is no other confirmation...
  25. What are your reactions? It could be Benzoates. Almost all soda's are preserved with benzoates. Only regular coke and seltzer water are not. (That I have found) Some juices and juice drinks also have benzoates added. I cannot tolerate benzoates, tartrazine, annato, or yellow food dyes because I am allergic to salicylates and there is a very high cross...
