  1. Celiac Belly may respond to the Paleo way of eating. Just eliminating gluten may be leaving too many carbs in your diet and your body doesn't know what to do with them...the pancreas puts out insulin to store all the extra carbs as fat...and the belly stays. If you eat more protein you might feel better and find that your metabolism responds better. Mark...
  2. That is what happened to me. I was taking promethazine for nausea and noticed it helped my facial swelling and general lousy feeling. I then asked my Dr. if I could take a dose every night to avoid daytime sleepiness. He said yes and it has helped a lot of things. I never understood why, so your explanation helps Skylark! Thank you. Also I noticed the promethazine...
  3. You might also be sensitive to preservative benzoates. Benzoates are in all soda pop except regular coke...which is full of sugar. Some juices and other foods are preserved with sodium benzoates too. I have to avoid preservatives ever since I went gluten free. The chemical sweeteners bother me too. Just a thought.
  4. Welcome! Glad you found the information about what gluten can do. It certainly sounds like you will benefit from going gluten free. Keep reading, there is a lot to know, but if this is your problem, you will be feeling so much better soon!
  5. Wow! Welcome and I want to tell you your perseverance paid off. You are not a hypochondriac. I was in the same medical boat and it sunk. I was stuck in this limbo of Fobromyalgia, depression and weakness for years until I refused to leave the computer until I figured it out. It took a long time...due to brain fog. But I found this place and I am now one year...
  6. Congratulations for finding this site...it saved me after a bunch of long years sick. No Dr. ever listened past the first 10 symptoms, it's like they just can't handle more than one symptom...and the billing of course. It sounds like you have your answer. Do you need the tests? After all you have been through, I think I would just eat gluten...
  7. Have you checked out Vegiac.com? A site for vegetarian Celiacs. I'm not one...but I bumped into the site while searching so thought I would share. Bet you could find lot's to eat there.
  8. OMG!!! You are brilliant! I'm making that this winter. You are amazing!
  9. I had years of antibiotics to treat UTI symptoms...sometimes tests were postive for bacteria but most times not. It was really awful. I had no freaking idea that being gluten free would make this problem go away. But it totally went away. I am one year gluten free and have not had one single episode of UTI infection in the entire year...not even when I get...
  10. Oh Wow...you have really been through it. And so has your son. My son was sick all his life too. We didn't figure it out until he was 16. He opted not to test...no way we were waiting even a day to go gluten free what with all the problems he had. If there was a chance to fix it with gluten free eating we were going for it. It solved his ataxia, depression...
  11. Oh my god that looks delicious!
  12. There are other skin conditions associated with gluten...even if it isn't DH it may be a gluten sensitive eczema. the fact that it flares after eating gluten and your gastrointestinal symtoms seem significant. PP- You forgot to tell her to douse the potato skins with iodized salt! You could also try to get a biopsy...of clear skin next to a lesion...
  13. I use Nature Made vitamins. They are gluten free.
  14. Giardia might be the G word she was thinking of....it's a possibility. Also, Celiac/Gluten Intolerance can cause gut permeability which allows food particles to pass directly into the bloodstream causing all kinds of problems with inflammation and pain. It wreaks havoc on the system. It can make you think you are intolerant or allergic to things you really...
  15. Just think of it...in the rush to keep the buffet filled they grab Naan bread and fill the basket then they grab your Lentil Papadum and fill the basket and rush it out to the buffet....it only takes a molecule... I loved eating in Indian Restaurants, but I know that even when they wear gloves they are touching gluten and then touching gluten free food...
  16. I started getting sick with Celiac after I married my husband who was fond of Pita bread. He ate it with every meal. I had been on Atkins Low Carb and Protein Power diets for the last 5 years and I only ate chocolate for my carb allowance each day. I did very well on that diet, but in the back of my mind I thought this can't go on forever...what about my...
  17. Yeah, me too. Increased sensitivity is maddening and we must be ever more vigilant about gluten. I get sick with exteme symptoms from trace gluten where before I ate it every day. I had chronic muscle and joint pain and migraine headaches that went on for days. Now I get those just from accidental trace gluten. Like helping sister's kids with...
  18. Carageenan is terrible for my DH too. My scars are pure white like that after they completely heal...Just exactly like your pics. Mine are on my face and chest. My elbows and lower back didn't scar...neither did my leg.
  19. That is wonderful for you! YAY!! I hope the gluten free food they get for you is safe. But at least they are trying! And that must be wonderfully validating to you to have him react that way! It took courage to tell him but that is great that you were so well-received. It should ease your mind about things at least. Good luck in your academic work...
  20. Well, since I'm across the street, I'll answer you. There are down times, like 2 to 4 when most have already had lunch. But if there is an event in town...it will be busy all day. I wish you would of bought a BIG loaf of Udi's bread for your homemade sandwiches! But I understand completely. I get worried if people are being tained or if the place...
  21. Congratulations on getting the biopsy. So do you mean to say that you had NO active rash at all, but she biopsied clear skin where the last rash used to be? That is very interesting if I am reading you correctly. Because the DH literature says the antibodies can remain in the skin for up to 10 years. If that is the case...then a biopsy should be possible...
  22. Angioedema...facial swelling and swelling of the deeper tissues. It can be allergic, or it can be from a vitamin deficiency, or it can be from kidney problems or heart problems...Food allergies that are undiagnosed can cause angioedema. Mine was from salicylates and soy and from the malnutrition of Celiac that went undiagnosed far too long. Once the body...
  23. Many people are in or have been in your position. Whether to test or not is up to you. If you do test now you will likely be negative since you are not eating gluten. If you eat gluten for 3 months there are two outcomes in the testing results- 1. You are Positive and 2. You are Negative. Either way the outcome is likely to be the same result...you will...
  24. IgA antibodies Please post if you are successful. I've never been able to convince a Dermatologist to biopsy...they want an intact lesion and the blisters are very fragile...so never an intact lesion to biopsy. It would be negative if they did anyway because the biopsy has to be next to the lesion on clear skin...that is where the antibodies are. If...
  25. Wow! I live across the street from a Jason's Deli and I've never tried eating there because I figure there is too much gluten in there for it to be safe for me. But maybe I can buy a loaf of bread from them! Cool! Thanks for that tip!
