This is so crazy. If she got that backwards then did she read my lab results correctly?? Thank you very much Really makes me wonder. -
ARCHIVED Specifics About Celiac Disease Symptoms
eatmeat4good replied to alice m's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How refreshing to see your post. I wish all Dr.'s would read this cite. Sorry you are having symptoms though. I want to address your questions because I am one who had sporadic and intermittent episodes of symptoms in all three categories, neurological, dermatological, and gastrointestinal. Yes, you can react suddenly and severely at times and think... -
ARCHIVED Dh Thyroid And Dapsone
eatmeat4good replied to eatmeat4good's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My thyroid test TSH came back normal. Now they want to do an ultrasound of the thyroid. Hopeful? Um my Dr. said the topical form of Dapsone is more toxic than the pills so she didn't want to give it to me. So I find it strange that you can tolerate that. Do you still have to get the testing of your blood? She was adamant about that with me. I thought... -
ARCHIVED Do You Need An Intact Blister?
eatmeat4good replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It was just as if I had eaten gluten. Sores that had healed reopened. Some filled with fluid and hurt hurt hurt. Itch, burn, sting, hurt. It has taken me two weeks to get them healed after eating crawfish. Shellfish have iodine. Also table salt. If your antibodies are still in the skin you can have a very bad reaction. Iodine reactivates the antibodies... -
ARCHIVED I Cant Gain Weight, Small Appetite! Help
eatmeat4good replied to sixonethird.ent's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm so sorry you are feeling that badly. The list above sounds perfect for both your mood and weight. Some vitamin deficiencies can cause a person to lose their appetite. Be sure you take vitamin supplements and get enough B and D. Can you get your vitamin levels checked? I have trouble eating too. Espeically a meal. I find taking a bite... -
ARCHIVED Do You Need An Intact Blister?
eatmeat4good replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I've never seen an intact blister either. That's part of the reason it went undiagnosed for so long. Definitely not blistered looking. They rub off or scratch off as soon as they form. I hope you get a result, but if not, you can be gluten free anyway. I couldn't believe how bad the iodine reation was. I hope you heal fast. -
ARCHIVED Dh Thyroid And Dapsone
eatmeat4good replied to eatmeat4good's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks to both of you for posting so much information. I really appreciate it. I think they only drew a TSH not a full thyroid panel. I should know something tomorrow as to the results. I'm grateful you both know about testing and I will ask for the tests you suggest. -
ARCHIVED Is This Dh? New User
eatmeat4good replied to pullingstraws's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Mine wasn't ever symmetirical and I have it pretty bad. Yes, the pain, stinging or itching can sometimes be felt before the rash appears. I too, have had the acne like or mosquito bite like lesions as well as the blistery watery rash kind. Yours could very well be DH -
ARCHIVED Could Lung Inflammation Be Related To Celiac?
eatmeat4good replied to vlm448's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My son has had severe asthma all his life and couldn't participate in sports and got short of breath walking. He went gluten free when I did 4 months ago on a hunch it might help his fatigue and muscle weakness. Didn't dream it would get rid of his asthma. His lifetime of prednisone, inhalers and antibiotics didn't even manaage it very well. But 4 months... -
ARCHIVED Dh Thyroid And Dapsone
eatmeat4good replied to eatmeat4good's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Just want to add I found a very informative thread on Hashimoto's written yesterday so all of you who posted there don't have to repeat yourselves here. It was very helpful. -
ARCHIVED Dh Thyroid And Dapsone
eatmeat4good replied to eatmeat4good's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Wendy, Thank you so much for your post. I was diagnosed with neurotic excoriation 3 times when I tried to get a biopsy. Just had no idea what could cause so much pain. You said they monitored your blood. What is it that you are monitoring when you are on Dapsone? I asked the Dr. about it and she said take it for two weeks before calling her to... -
ARCHIVED 6 Months Gluten Free Gained Too Much
eatmeat4good replied to 2sweetico's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is a BIG link between Celiac and hormones. That is part of the reason people get thyroid problems. So glad you got checked. I just want to comment on your experience with protein and low carb dieting prior to gaining the weight. Eating that way makes our bodies more sensitive to insulin. Insulin's job is to remove sugar from the blood and store... -
ARCHIVED Interstitial Cystitis And Tourettes
eatmeat4good replied to NonHuman's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow, this is interesting. Interstitial Cystitis has been a problem for most of my life. Not one episode since gluten free. I was wondering if there was a connection. I had been on antibiotics for years. The strange thing is that when they cultured my urine there was no bacteria. Just the pain. I wonder and believe now that it is gluten related... -
ARCHIVED New Here Need Help
eatmeat4good replied to mylilcappi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Actually E is one of the vitamins Celiacs are often deficient in. The only reason to avoid E would be if you are intolerant of Soy. There is non-soy derived vitamin E but many Vitamin E's are Soy cause it is cheap I think. I think what you may be referring to is if E is derived from wheat germ. In the US, it would have to be labeled as containing... -
ARCHIVED Bloating Again
eatmeat4good replied to srfjeld's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Maybe take probiotics? Test for SIBO? It is an infection that is tested for by a breath test. I've read about it. New intolerances? Dairy, soy, nightshade? Just a few thoughts. -
Hi, I'm 4 months gluten free after 7 years of multiple misdiagnoses with active DH lesions. My thyroid is visibly swollen. I had blood drawn yesterday but no results yet. I'm scared. I have had a terrible time healing the sores and keep getting new lesions. I am strictly gluten free. Eat only meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts. (one gluten free...

ARCHIVED First Menstrual Period gluten-free, Feeling Aweful!
eatmeat4good replied to possiblyglutensensitive's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually menstrual symptoms can worsen on going gluten free as the hormones are better able to do their job. My menstrual migraines are waaaaay worse now that my body is working better. I guess it is the surge of hormones returning. I think it takes a few months at least for your body to adjust. There is a blog on here about migraine headaches... -
ARCHIVED Perioral Dermititis Or Dh?
eatmeat4good replied to Lalama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
They activate the antibodies. And bad. I have been recovering 4 months and still get outbreaks at the slightest shellfish or iodine. So I am going on Dapsone. Yikes. I never made the connection either until I read it here and then started realizing it was happening. -
ARCHIVED Recovering From A Glutening
eatmeat4good replied to Jill0711's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't find anything that works but time. I drink water but do not eat until symptoms are gone. Others eat and drink until they feel better. Some take Pepto Bismol and say it helps. Peppermint tea or tea of any kind is recommended by some. None of it helps me. I hope you get well fast. I know how miserable it is. I hope you get some better... -
ARCHIVED Is Benedryl Gluten Free?
eatmeat4good replied to YoloGx's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I am both. Actually found the salicylate problem first as I had the symptoms of chronic salicylic poisoning. Took baby aspirin once a day and used salicylic acid face wash for sores...dermatologist recommended I might add. Found symptoms of chronic aspirin poisoning and learned it matched my symptoms so I stopped all sals. Thought I would get... -
ARCHIVED Is Benedryl Gluten Free?
eatmeat4good replied to YoloGx's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, I have read it is gluten free. One thing to consider is the food coloring if you are sensitive to salicylates. Often Tartrazine and yellow dyes cause reactions for those who are sal sensitive. I don't buy yellow tablets. If the food coloring doesn't bother you it is gluten free. If the food coloring does bother you you can buy Benedryl... -
ARCHIVED Perioral Dermititis Or Dh?
eatmeat4good replied to Lalama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes it could be DH. Mine has been most severe on my chin. Started as tiny bumps...increased to large lesions as I didn't know about DH. Dr.'s often confuse it with ringworm. I was treated with antibiotics, antifungals, etc. Finally found DH on this site and the sores are healing after 4 months. The elbow breakouts make it more suspicious that it may... -
ARCHIVED Could The Blood Test Be Wrong?
eatmeat4good replied to confused mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You will want to get her vitamin and mineral levels checked. There could be malabsorption without obvious villi damage. I wouldn't discount the diagnosis...just be grateful the damage isn't showing. It could be low B's, D, K, iron, or several others. It can take a while for the body to stabilize. Also consider other intolerances...dairy, soy, nightshades... -
ARCHIVED One Good Thing About Being The Only gluten-free In A House Of Gluten-Eaters....
eatmeat4good replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My good thing for the day is that my son said, "Mom? Are you sure this pasta is gluten free? I'm kinda scared to eat it cause it tastes so real!" I had given him quinoa/corn spaghetti.... -
ARCHIVED My First Visit With A Gi Doc
eatmeat4good replied to bridgeofsighs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can't address the testing, but I can add to the popping cracking joints. All my life my knees crack when I bend them. Using my hands, my knuckles crack from the slightest pressure. My spine would often hurt until I twisted a certain way and it cracked. Later I developed achy joints and hips. The hips cracked too. 4 months gluten free and nothing...
