This thread made me smile. My wife is great but she enjoys her gluten. I'm a very sensitive celiac with quick intensive neuropathy if poisoned. When it's time for bed, I know things might go my way if she brushes her teeth. If no teeth brushing, oh well...

My last sentence - I meant gut related symptoms. There are some of us with mostly neuropathy. -
ARCHIVED Is This A Celiac Symptom?
GuyC replied to Pisqualie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes. This is exactly how mine started. It took me another 2 years of deterioration to get diagnosed. My nerves got so bad I could hardly sit down. I just stood and "buzzed". A celiac's gut won't process needed vitamins and your nerve system starts to die (my words). I'm now 1.5 years gluten-free and am healing. Not all celiac is gut related. -

GuyC replied to Echen Alexander's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I can relate to the extreme shoulder and neck pain. Being gluten free has really helped me. -

Odds are it's a disc in your neck. You need to see a chiropractor. -

ARCHIVED Got Any Funnys From Friends/family Trying To Understand?
GuyC replied to Chad Sines's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was diagnosed, my 15 year old said, "Dad, I don't see the problem, you've got Snikers bars an orange soda. What more does a guy need?" -
ARCHIVED Do You Have Dreams About Accidentally Eating Gluten?
GuyC replied to srall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had a couple in the last year. I'm always glad when I wake up and determine it was a dream! -
I had the gluten-free veggie pizza at Union Station in Wash, DC a few months ago and had no reaction. Then, last week, I had the same thing in Denver and had a minor reaction. My reactions are nerve related - I call it buzzing. The pizza may have been fine but I might have gotten contamitated off the table top or my soda glass.

ARCHIVED How Long Till %100
GuyC replied to Gfresh404's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Age diagnosed: 45 Period of time gluten-free: 1 year next week Estimated % of Full Recovery: 70% - my issues were/are almost 100% nerve related. I've seen a lot of progress and am grateful for it. I hoping some of the nerve damage is not permanent. -
ARCHIVED Custom Ordering Pizza At Uno's?
GuyC replied to Maltiriel's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I had gluten-free veggie pizza at Uno's in Union Station (Wash. DC) last week and it was execellent. No issues and a lot tastier than plain cheese. -
As my son told me - dad, you don't have any issue. You can just eat Snicker's bars and orange soda!

ARCHIVED Are Chills On The Scalp A Symptom Of Gluten Withdrawal?
GuyC replied to ericsnow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Interesting - I sometimes get the same thing on my scalp. It's like a shiver going across the top of my head. My main issues were not gastro but nerve damage. I also get tingling up the spine sometimes and in my hips...I call it buzzing. I've be gluten-free for almost 5 months and things are improving. -
ARCHIVED How Long Have You Been Diagnosed?
GuyC replied to Noglutenformethanks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed 6 months ago. I'm making progress...about 80% of the way there. -
Before I was diagnosed celiac in Oct '10, my wife started a vegetarian food blog. Since I was diagnosed, she converted it to gluten-free. She also recently went back to prior posts and noted that they aren't gluten-free or she tells how they can be converted to gluten-free. She enjoys sharing the info as we wander the gluten-free path. I'm grateful for her...

ARCHIVED Do You Eat Foods Produced On Shared Lines?
GuyC replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My kitchen is a "shared line". My two teen boys and my wife eat gluten in the house so there's always a risk. -
ARCHIVED High Antibodies After Three Months
GuyC replied to Nugget's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Interesting discussion. I was diagnosed late October 2010 and my antibodies were 83. My retest in early January 2011 came in at 26. My doc just retested me and we're awaiting the results now. I live in a house with 3 gluten eaters so I'm always worried about CC. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Tell When You're Glutened?
GuyC replied to jennifer47's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The majority of problems I have from being celiac are nerve related. If I get glutened, within 20-30 minutes I feel a buzzing in my upper spine and sometimes in my arms and hips. It's weird. I've been gluten-free 11 weeks yesterday and have only been "poisioned" twice - both times from eating out. -
ARCHIVED Who Survived Thanksgiving?
GuyC replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I did well thanks to my wife. She made gluten-free pumpkin pie. The crust was perfect! -
Do you have a campus newspaper? They might listen to your plight and run a story. That could bring some attention to the situation. Just a thought...

This string of posts is an encouragement to me. My celiac symptoms are almost all nerve related. It started when I had an ear infection. After the infection, my ear would feel like something was crawling around in it (sometimes a buzzing/tingling). Sometimes the feeling would go up into my temple as well. This was over a year ago. I read that it could be...

Being of the male persuasion, I was having a bit of prostate trouble for the last 2 years. I would have to get up 3 or 4 times a night. The doc checked everything out and said I was healthy. Due to my celiac diagnosis on 10/27/10 and being gluten-free since, I've just noticed I no longer have any prostate issues! I never would have connected the two. I'm...

Along the same topic line - what about kitchen hand towels. We have a communal one hanging from the oven handle. Should we run two with a big gluten-free embroidered on one?

I'm newly diagnosed Celiac (as of 10/27/10). I happen to be a Reserve Deputy with the local Sheriff's Office. Someone had to point out that at least now I won't be distracted when I drive by a dounut shop!

About 20 to 40 min. after eating gluten, my face and arms burn like a sunburn (but are not red). It takes several hours to go away. I was diagnosed Celiac last week. It's worth a check. GuyC
