  1. Yes, that's true, but before going gluten-free and despite my pizza slice comment I was eating pretty darn healthy anyway. But I missed the point that even if I am missing out on vitamins and minerals from the bread, when I was eating it, they were probably getting cancelled out by the gluten!!
  2. In response to your posting, Bobbi J, someone said there is no harm in not eating gluten. I go back and forth on this a lot. When I first gave up gluten in the first quarter of this year, I was thinking that there are surely a lot of "essential vitamins" and maybe minerals I was NOT getting by not eating bread. I haven't investigated, but I still suspect...
  3. Hi, My understanding is that you'd have to isolate your gene. And beyond that, I don't know! Someone else could tell you, perhaps. But your question is an excellent one. Plumbago
  4. Hi Bobbie J (is it Jo??), Why not just get the antibody tests done? Then if those are elevated, get the endoscopy? If it's a matter of insurance/cost, I understand. Personally, I felt much better knowing I had it without a doubt after my endoscopy. Plumbago
  5. Hi Everyone, I usually buy a lot of loose green tea from Teaism in DC. They have assured me that it is gluten free. I was recently without their tea for about 1.5 weeks, and then when I received a package in the mail from them with the tea I ordered, and began drinking it three days ago, I have noticed a certain tightening in the lower left abdomen area...
  6. How can I **easily** find threads I have commented on? Some forums, you just click on your user name and see all your comments, but that doesn't work here. Right now, I'm going through ALLLLL those topics, which is time-intensive. There must be an easier way. How? THANKS.
  7. Hi, I bought Bob's and Pamela's pancake mixes as I have pancakes nearly every morning for breakfast. Pamela's is good. Bob's just so-so, so to use it up, I mix about an eighth of it in with Pamela's. It's very good, no less good than "regular" pancakes. For lunch and dinner, I often cook a piece of beef or rib eye, and the juices produced go great...
  8. Hi, I live (normally) in DC, and posted on a similar topic recently. Someone replied to me that: "There is a celiac clinic at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. Dr Alessio Fassano is the head of that clinic and is well known in the celiac world. There is also a nutritionist named Cheryl Harris in Alexandria who works with celiac patients." ...
  9. Where in the world do you live???
  10. Hi, I'm not going to be much of a morale boost for you. I feel with your sentiments. And I was just reading somewhere on this forum about the proper way to clean a skillet that has been cc'ed (and whose has not?): put it in an oven and set the self-cleaner going. If that is the proper way to clean a simple skillet, imagine the measures restaurants and...
  11. Thank you gluten-free in DC. Do you think I can just google Cheryl Harris and find her? Also, I suspect you're correct about just giving up processed food for a while. Lunch and dinner would be fine, but that's a lot of eggs to eat for breakfast! And I like meat, but I do get concerned about the fact that my meat eating has increased since going gluten...
  12. Any support groups within the Washington, DC city limits??
  13. I have been doing a lot of reading on this forum about test results, because I too just got my blood tests back and was very curious about what they meant.(I was diagnosed with celiac disease in May 2010) I've heard that an antibody is an antibody, regardless of the quantity - FWIW, my levels went down too. I read someone on the forum said that a "weak...
  14. When people use the term "CC" on this forum, what does that mean? Thanks.
  15. You're so nice to be advocating and working for your dad like you are, Shauna. My own opinion dealing with two primary care physicians and a gastroenterologist is that no, doctors are hardly thorough in either their evaluation of a patient's diet or an examination of just how much gluten is in our food. It is extremely discouraging. I have posted on...
  16. Hello Everyone, I am new to the forum. Diagnosed with celiac disease in May of 2010. Antibody tests were high in March and April of this year. Since May, after a positive biopsy, I have been doing the very absolute best I can to go gluten-free, but I have had occasional instances of severe cramps. In late October, I had my first celiac comprehensive...
