  1. I have a friend who questioned my PCP's recommendation to give myself B12 shots monthly, and to take 50,000 IUs of Vitamin D. She is quite vehement that if I am now going gluten-free, my gut should be healing, and I should now start to absorb the vitamins normally. No need for supplementation. I did not dare tell her that my B12 reading since I started giving...
  2. Or just a spray bottle with water? I suppose my point is, do we have to "kill" the residue left behind from a crumb? Or is it ok just to get it up, and maybe wipe a rag across the counter? How severe do I have to get in cleaning a glutened counter top?
  3. I'm mostly eating veggies, a meat, and rice, so I don't know much about processed gluten-free foods, but I do know that Crunchmaster makes a most excellent little cracker in a couple different flavors. Olive oil and rosemary is fantastic. They're great to put toppings on. I highly recommend them. Personally, I much prefer Pam's to the Bob's brand for my pancake...
  4. Thanks to everyone who replied. Thanks for the recommendations. I don't really prepare food directly on the countertops either. The reason though, that I need a good cleaner is to wipe away other people's gluten. Thanks again.
  5. Ok, while we're on the topic, let me just check back in with you and others, if you don't mind. I'm going home soon, back to the place I've been living for 20 years, after being away about 7 months. When I go to the store, either mainline grocery or some place like Whole Foods or more altie than that, is it ok do you think for me to just pick up whatever...
  6. Good one! I'll have to remember to cut and paste that when I do my freecycle ad once I get home. Thank you.
  7. Hmm...yeah, you are probably right, and that's probably a stupid question, but you never know! The idea of just spreading gluten all around as I otherwise do my utmost to avoid it just drove me to the telephone and stayed on hold for forever. They told me that no it does not contain gluten. I guess one reason I asked was that there was some discussion about...
  8. Anyone know if Comet cleaner with bleach disinfectant cleaner is gluten free? I have a whole kitchen to clean, and would like to know. Thanks!
  9. I have a pre-diagnosis cutting board made of bamboo. Should I keep it or toss it? Thanks!
  10. If you do decide to one day do another endoscopy to find out whether or not you have Celiac disease, of course you probably know that if you are not eating gluten, then in all likelihood you will not get an accurate reading. Also, make sure your multivitamin does not contain gluten. Good luck.
  11. I love everyone's answers! Very nice and comforting. Speaking personally, a lot of times in my office, the forced socialization is too much. Especially when, pre diagnosis, I would come back from them feeling bloated and not good. Although I haven't been back to work due to a family break in a while, so I don't know what it'll truly be like to be denied completely...
  12. There could be more than one physiologically based cause of dementia. It may even be temporary. Others have mentioned the B12 problem. There's also pernicious anemia that you may want to get her checked out for. I'd just research it as much as possible. Blood tests! I was concerned about the drastic weight loss.
  13. No, I don't see where in the article it says the RDA for vitamin D has been increased.

  15. Evidence also suggests that high levels of vitamin D can increase the risks for fractures and the overall death rate and can raise the risk for other diseases. While those studies are not conclusive, any risk looms large when there is no demonstrable benefit. Those hints of risk are “challenging the concept that ‘more is better,’ ” the committee wrote. Tha...
  16. I wonder about this. I've heard conflicting things on this board and others. Some like these guidelines say it doesn't matter what the number is, you're either pregnant or not is a similar analogy. Others say that if your numbers are going down, that is a step in the right direction. If the latter is not the case, then why do the tests have different gradations...
  17. Right. However, there are some tests that supposedly measure if gluten has been in the system, say, for the last six months. But that might vary, it might be less time. So for sure a lot of research is in order for the original poster. That test might show gluten, it might not. Another kind of test, the EMA, measures antibodies reacting against the endomysial...
  18. This may or may not be helpful, but nowadays the libraries of the world are all linked up and on the web. I know that I can log into my local library here in the US, search for a book, and if it's not in our library system, I can find which library nearby or anywhere in the world has it. I was looking for a book about something to do with Washington, DC,...
  19. Dangerous Grains says that the EMA Test , Endomysium Antibody, is recommended: "The development of the endomysium antibody test resulted from recognition that antibodies against this tissue are present in more than 90 percent of celiacs who are consuming gluten, yet the disappear quite rapidly after excluding gluten." This would seem to be therefore a good...
  20. Thanks everyone. By the way, I know there are a lot more posts that I've made than I can find by clicking on my profile then posts. I wonder where they are...
  21. has not set their status

  22. My pain is in the lower left, below the rib cage and just above the hip bone. When it's bad, and it hasn't been in a while, it is so severe that the only way to make the cramp go away is to grab that hunk of flesh. I don't know what that's doing when I do that, maybe some nerve, I don't know, but the pain goes away and then usually I can let go. It's awful...
  23. What about bamboo cutting boards? Should those be replaced, post-diagnosis?
  24. I must say I find myself increasingly grateful for this forum. But what I am noticing is that there are certain shall we say unresolved points. This above - spectrum or no spectrum - is one of them. For me, in this instance it comes down to, ok, so now I'm at my Dad's. The only hand lotion in the bathroom is Aveeno. I have to use it. So yes, I'll be careful...
  25. Where's the **Huffington Post** link? The link provided is just to a synopsis of the article, hosted on this site. Does not go to the HP. Can you please post a link directly to the HP? Thanks.
