ARCHIVED Aveeno
plumbago replied to Leonesse's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Products like a body lotion are not likely to be ingested, so they would not be a problem in spite of any gluten containing ingredient. Of course if you have a wheat (or oat-grain) skin allergy it's a different story. I'm not sure why you would think that. Well, maybe I am thinking of hand lotion. You would not say the same thing there would you? Also... -
Millet
plumbago replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was talking to a friend at work about what to eat for breakfast. She told me she has millet. I bought some Bob's at the health store near me, and I love it. Although I was trying to simplify my breakfasts, I've taken to adding ham or bacon, cheese, carrots, potatoes, etc... It fills me up, one of my primary goals for changing what I eat for breakfast... -
Please let us know how it turns out! I was diagnosed at the same time you were. I'm putting off the second endoscopy, though it's been recommended. Plumbago

ARCHIVED How Much Vitamin D Are You Taking?
plumbago replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello, I'm not sure if I had any symptoms that I was aware of pre-diagnosis, and before boosting the D. Now, I am taking 1,000 IUs daily, and one 50,000 IU gel cap weekly. I wish I could tell a difference, perhaps if I knew what to lok for. (I also give myself Vit B12 injections, and that is it for me, supplement wise) Plumbago -
ARCHIVED Ecover Products
plumbago replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks! I "exchanged" it today at Whole Foods, so I did not lose any money. I say exchanged in quotation marks because guess what they did with the lemon dish soap I returned? Threw it in the trash can. I said, "Nooooooooooo!!!" and he said yes. Can you believe it? Whole Foods. They didn't even recycle it! -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Ketchup That's Also Sugar Free
plumbago replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, good ketchup's great. Turns out, it wasn't the sweetener per se, it was that agave. Yech! I bought some Heinz, and even though it's got one more g of sugar than Annie's (Heinz has 5) I love it. It's so much better. Annie's should halve the agave. Or leave it out. Sorry for the drama. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Ketchup That's Also Sugar Free

There are many reduced sugar ketchups out there Might you be able to share the brands with me? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Ketchup That's Also Sugar Free
plumbago replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Guys, I can handle traditional foods. It's just that over the years, I know ketchup has gotten sweeter and sweeeter, and I wish I didn't have to feel like I'm having a dessert on top of my hamburger! And, I amended my request to say REDUCED sugar. So that's really what I'm after. But thanks for all your replies and responses. Plumbago. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Ketchup That's Also Sugar Free
plumbago replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
what I found: Open Original Shared Link has some kind of sweetner, but it says zero sugars. I think it is possible to find ketchup that at least has a reduced amount of sugars. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Ketchup That's Also Sugar Free
plumbago posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Last time I bought ketchup I bought Annie's because I knew it was gluten-free. And added bonus: on the front it said "no added sugar." So I come home and taste it, and it tastes sweet. I look on the back, and there it is: agave. Does anyone have a good rec for gluten-free ketchup that is also sugar free? That includes sugars from cane or fruit. Does such... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Athletes: Green Bay Packer Running Back James Starks - Celiac.com
plumbago replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
The article notes that Starks says cutting out or down on carbs is what has helped him so much. As we all know, a gluten-free diet can still be high in carbs. Personally, last summer I became extremely interested in what Gary Taubes was writing. It coincided with my diagnosis of celiac disease. -

ARCHIVED Harris Teeter Pre-Made Foods
plumbago replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah, I did both. The ingredients seemed ok but when I asked they said all their pre-prepared foods (just warm) was not safe. I was puzzled. I didn't buy any of it. Does anyone have any experience successfully eating pre-prepared food at Harris Teeter or Whole Foods that is gluten-free? Thanks! -
Thanks for that perspective Sarie Sue. The three plastic sacks of ingredients I looked at did not at all seem to have been made in the store since they came with writing on the bag. Also it is possible, during a down time, to ask the staff to clean a blender for you. I did.

Just as an fyi... Yesterday, I went to the Starbucks near me in DC. The young man manning the register was decent about my requests. I checked the bags of the three ingredients (coffee flavor - what's up with that? coffee flavor?? in a coffee shop?), mocha powder, and coffee - no gluten ingredients.

Thanks everyone for responding. This is what I have found from the UC Berkeley Wellness Newsletter: Vitamin E This fat-soluble vitamin discovered at UC Berkeley more than 80 years ago has been a star among nutrients for at least 25 years. Vitamin E is an important antioxidant that exists in several forms, the most potent of which is alpha tocopherol...

My doctor recommended vitamin E to me yesterday. 800 IUs. I came back, and googled, and came across a CBS article saying to stay away from Vitamin E because it can lead to something called increased death. Great. So obviously I'm not rushing out any time soon. But I just wanted to know if people on here have heard about those studies and what you all think...

ARCHIVED Top Three Worst Gf Products
plumbago replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
1. All-Time-Worst gluten-free purchase EVER: Nana's gluten-free cookies. Spent $10.00 on nicely packaged, moist looking, big round cookies. Bought lemon, chocolate, and chocolate crunch. Drooled all the way home. Opened cookies, sat down with the kids and dug in. When we opened the packages and tried to take out the cookies we ran into the first problem:... -
ARCHIVED California Baby Products
plumbago replied to love2blog's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The California Baby web site is pretty darn good. I posted a question here a while ago about gluten-free bath suds, and no one responded. Meanwhile I had other feelers out and someone from Whole Foods emailed me that for kids Alaffia 32oz which comes in 2 scents with a retail price of 14.99. WHOLE FOODS. July 2011. Obviously you do not have to be a kid. ... -

ARCHIVED Change In Alexia Frozen Potato And Sweet Potato Products
plumbago replied to T.H.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is on my list of ten thousand questions for the doctor. Just because we might not be sensitive, does that then correlate to no damage? I mean, can't we still be ingesting gluten and not tell? Only a blood test would tell? Is or is not gluten gluten? (!) Plumbago -

ARCHIVED Pork Chops For Dinner Tonight.
plumbago replied to erin24's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
THIS WAS REALLY GREAT! I made it this evening. -
(This posting is pretty graphic!) One day this week, I had some pork from our cafeteria. I asked the cook if it was cooked with flour or soy sauce. No on both counts. I didn't go into the cross contamination possibilities for various reasons. Usually I just eat a salad there, but I was so tired of salads, and the pork looked too good. So maybe about...
