DC does not have a gluten free bakery. The guy who started Cake Love, Warren Brown, used to have another very nice bakery across the street (on U) maybe it was called Love Cafe where it was very civilized, you could go in and sit down. He was featured in many magazines and Fox News Sunday even. Now Love Cafe is gone, and all that's left of Warren Brown...

ARCHIVED Celiac's & Pathology Of Crohn's?
plumbago replied to kelly97's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I'm a little bit confused about your Celiac diagnosis. Are you saying you are not sure now that you have celiac disease? How was the diagnosis arrived at? By endoscopy? If so, there is usually a lab technician who reports the findings and gives his or her opinion on all the photos/images, quite separate and apart from that of the dr. Do you have a... -
ARCHIVED Petition for Gluten-Free Labeling on White House Website - Celiac.com
plumbago replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Takala, At the risk of getting in way over my head, I wanted to acknowledge your comment and response. And also state that this is kind of what I was looking for in some of my original comments when I asked for an explanation about why this was (in my opinion) not getting more publicity on this site. Meaning, perhaps there was some very very good reason... -

ARCHIVED Petition for Gluten-Free Labeling on White House Website - Celiac.com
plumbago replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Scott, Gosh, do you really think I am "bashing this site?" because I don't. I obviously use it a lot. I was expressing my extreme surprise that the petition had not been featured more prominently. Yes, I saw the article. But why aren't there banner ads and the like, for example on every page? This seems to be one of the main reasons this site was started... -
ARCHIVED Petition for Gluten-Free Labeling on White House Website - Celiac.com
plumbago replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Adalaide, The person who started this petition posted on our local celiac group. This is what she said (I have more comments at the end): _______________________________ We've had a great start to our goal of 25,000 by November 1st, the threshold for a White House response. Please send the link to family and friends and explain why it's important... -
ARCHIVED Please Consider Signing The Petition For gluten-free Labeling
plumbago replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Great! Thanks for signing. At the rate this thing is being signed, though, I'm not sure we're going to make it to the number that is required. I wish the admins of this site would start promoting it very very soon. Hint hint. Plumbago -

Yes, sometimes. Can you link to what you mean? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED An Immune Disorder At The Root Of Autism (Op Ed From Nytimes)
plumbago replied to Takala's topic in Publications & Publicity
I got to that NYT article on autism from Michael Pollan's tweet. Interesting, but also annoying in that there is, in relation to celiac disease, a kind of loose-ended statement: One large Danish study, which included nearly 700,000 births over a decade, found that a mother’s rheumatoid arthritis, a degenerative disease of the joints, elevated a child’s... -
ARCHIVED Effects Of Sitting On Weigh
plumbago replied to plumbago's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, it's possible, definitely. I suppose I need a bigger water container than the one I have. But also, I think there's something about the mechanics of sitting. Need to do much learning on that. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Effects Of Sitting On Weigh
plumbago replied to plumbago's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for the reply/replies. Well, I could definitely add a walk around the block, and I have done that. It doesn't seem to help that much. And I've started running in the morning. (Which actually kind of makes me tired during the day.) Plumbago -
ARCHIVED Effects Of Sitting On Weigh
plumbago replied to plumbago's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks, but specifically focusing on weight gain. When I work at home, is it because I'm more relaxed and less stressed, though it's not THAT stressful in the office? Could that contribute to weight gain? -
This question does not have anything to do with celiac disease or gluten. I find that when I come home from working in the office 8 plus hours, my legs (and probably my whole body) tend to be more swollen than those days I do not go into the office. I feel heavier, and I think I am heavier. I wonder why this is? Poor ergonomics situation? But I have one...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Baked Goods In Harris Teeter? Would You Buy Them?

No, I haven't but thank you for the recommendation!

Hello, I have a break in the sense that right now I am not taking classes, but I would love to keep myself in the milieu of learning (anatomy and physiology) with some great novels and even historical novels about medicine and anatomy or health. Recommendations are appreciated! Plumbago

I know that B12 must be given intra-muscularly. But should the needle be one inch, and the gauge 23? Is that the ideal? What's the ideal for lean people? Plump people? Obese people? I have been using a short needle and was just corrected by the pharmacist today. He said I have basically been giving myself subcutaneous B12 shots, which of course is not...

ARCHIVED More Restaurants Refusing To Accommodate
plumbago replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, I agree - it's those who are in the food business because of passion (in addition to paying the rent) and not just to have a job. The ones who know about food naturally know about gluten. Plumbago -
Metropolitan scoped me (endo and colon) a couple years ago, and scope-wise they are very good. The doctor who did my endo could tell just by looking then and there, live, that I probably had celiac disease. I tried following up more with him and others in the practice, later, but was not really successful. There are not many doctors of any kind who know a...

ARCHIVED More Restaurants Refusing To Accommodate
plumbago replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I tend to agree with sandsurfgirl - it's down to doctors vs lawyers, and the lawyers will win. I imagine scenes where lawyers say to food company or restaurant owners, "You promised WHAT?! Are you crazy??" Threatening lawsuits is not only beyond rude, but stupid. Why would anyone think they could win? They are restaurants not pharmacies. I saw that... -
Just finding this discussion now. Glad to see 1974 girl's response because that does seem to be it. I had the same thing, not all the time but enough to be worrisome. I got a lot of tests and they couldn't really find much except modest ventricular ectopy which may be the same thing as PVC. Also, I have cut way back on the caffeine which has helped a lot...

ARCHIVED Advertising On This Site
plumbago replied to plumbago's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
It was wheat thins, and it's no longer there. What's there now is Open Original Shared Link which features gluten pizza, among other gluten items. (And now what's showing up there is Lose Your Wheat Belly). Plumbago -
