  1. Hi sb, It's interesting how much more detail you go into than my doctor did, who just called me in response to a fax I sent him. I sent him the fax to help me understand the elevated level. I sent the fax last week (twice) inquiring about the high test result. The doctor said that that test is not a test for gluten, that there is no test for gluten...
  2. Very good question, now that you mention it! Well just that he said it's PETROLEUM, you know, and that it's better to eat it (he said) even, than to put it on your skin. I said I put it on my nails every night! He just said there are tons of toxins in there that can get into your blood stream. It's not anything particular with Celiac disease. Petroleum...
  3. Hello all, I just bought some Alba un-petroleum multipurpose jelly at Whole Foods. I talked to someone yesterday (not celiac) who gave me horror stories about Vaseline so I decided to try something else. The ingredients seem ok, but I can't verify for sure w/ Alba's web site (they chicken out). Has anyone been using this who knows if it's gluten...
  4. Hello everyone, I'm cross posting this... For those experts at understanding test results, I would appreciate any feedback! Going over my lab work, I was doing fine until I got to the part with the gliadin peptide Ab, IgA. Tissue Transglutaminase AB, IgA (tTG Ab, IgA): 13.2 - reference range, less than 20, so this is within range Gliadin Peptide...
  5. The thing is, I'm not sure I'm comparing apples to apples. Meaning, the previous blood work I had done was in October 2010, and at that time, the test I had done (one of 4) was "deamidated gliadin abs, iga." It was not the "gliadin peptide ab, iga." I'm not sure if that's the exact same or not. In October 2010, the deamidated gliadin abs, iga was "normal...
  6. Hello everyone, For those experts at understanding test results, I would appreciate any feedback! (Why the doctor meets with you when GIVING the blood test, but not when receiving the results is beyond me.) Going down the list, I seemed to be doing fine until I got to the gliadin peptide Ab, IgA. Tissue Transglutaminase AB, IgA (tTG Ab, IgA): ...
  7. It used to be when I clicked on my username, I could select "my content" and see which questions I've asked (new threads) as well as which threads I've commented on. Now when I click on "my content," this is what comes up: nothing, but the words There is no information to show. Is this feature down now? Or might someone know if I've accidentally...
  8. Thinking of going for work for a few days in June. Does anyone know of this place in Brazil (Salvador de Bahia)? If so, do you know if there are gluten-free options. I'll be near the Pestana. Thanks. Plumbago
  9. Usually when I cook steak, I cook it the same way: on a tray in the oven at about 400-450 degrees with small pats of butter, salt and pepper. About 5 minutes or more per side. I used to enjoy the steak a lot more than I do now, and I'm getting a little bit tired of this. Can you all share steak recipes (I do not have an outdoor grill) that are relatively...
  10. I never really have been bothered by rice. Usually I buy the expensive Lundgren kind. But now I'm wondering if my recent episodes have anything to do with the rice I bought at Safeway, cheaper and not the brand I usually buy. Tuesday I got sick. By Thursday I felt better. Now (Friday) this a.m. my stomach is feeling a bit (to borrow a word from another forum...
  11. Great topic! I am approaching my return to work having been away one year. I was working during that year, just not paid. I have managed fine more or less (usual complaints but nothing more, about the inconvenience of being gluten-free), but as the day to return to work draws closer and closer, I am starting to dread and panic what is going to happen....
  12. I was wondering this too. I got sick yesterday morning. Probably a bug caught from stress, but i just wanted to make sure. I had a fever that went to 101. Chills, bad stomach ache, and joint aches everywhere. I didn't vomit or have D.
  13. Yes, good advice. Thanks. I will contact them. ADDED: But not to look a gift horse in the mouth, the deductions should also apply to all those extra veggies, fruit, and meat I have to buy to feel full (not to mention all that extra chopping, sauteeing, and cleaning!), but how that all would work, God only knows! Plumbago
  14. Hello everyone, I did do a quick search on this topic and didn't find what I was looking for - but again, it was a quick search. I've filed already for this year, so this question's answers I will use for tax year 2011, but there may be some last minute filers who find this useful. I know that the difference between a gluten item and a gluten...
  15. Thank you Shauna! I'm on hold now.... -Plumbago UPDATE: I got the ole to be on the safe side routine...basically "if you have a severe wheat allergy...." don't consume them in other words! This is so frustrating! Where in the world can I buy gluten-free nuts and seeds in a brick and mortar store??
  16. Hi everyone, Before I give/dump these on a friend, I wanted to see what people thought about whether or not I should continue to consume this flax seed. I say continue because only today did I turn the package around and read (bought the FS before I was diagnosed). It says "manufactured in a facility that uses milk, soy and wheat products. Good manuf....
  17. This might be too much information, so forgive me. (And probably just a little gross.) What I've concluded is that an unflushed (urine) toilet is not the best way to judge urine smell. The more and older urine there is, the less accurate, IMO, are our noses. Therefore, probably the thing to do is to pee into a cup and then smell it. When I did that, there...
  18. I'd like to thank everyone for responding. There are some fantastic ideas here, especially those I can make ahead. I will come back to this again and again. Plumbago
  19. Yes, I can eat potatoes! And that is a very good suggestion. I could either cut up a bunch to have them ready each morning, or I could go ahead and cook them ahead of time and just re-heat. Along w/ the sausage and eggs, I believe that would constitute a filling breakfast. Thanks!
  20. May I ask what brand of cream of buckwheat cereal you buy? Is it a hot cereal (I like hot cereals). I used to eat McCan's oatmeal, pre-diagnosis of course, and it was DEEE licous. (Anything approximating that would be good.)
  21. I thought I'd just go ahead and go for it, though probably the topic has been started a million times. What does everyone eat for breakfast? I am getting concerned that my morning meal might just have too much sugar. I eat lots of fruit, have a pancake and some tea. Of course I have syrup on that pancake. Oh, and often I have chicken sausage, a small...
  22. I accompanied a family member to their psychiatrist's appointment one time, and mentioned getting the family member tested for celiac disease. Word for word, the psychiatrist (very respected by the way) said it's the most over-diagnosed disease.
  23. Hi, I haven't read all the replies, yet, but as far as getting off anti-depressants, I can recommend a couple of web sites. For tapering off, google crazy meds. Or "crazy meds US" - something like that. It has details about all the different kinds of drugs that psychiatrists dole out. And as far as getting off them, of course their chemistries are all...
  24. Thanks for your comment, Cass. I called King Arthur and think I got all straightened out. Don't think it was gluten pancake mix I bought - I think I got the right one. They say all their boxes that are blue and white are gluten-free. There must be a connection between gluten and bladder. If/when I finally make it to my celiac disease expert appointment...
  25. Before I was diagnosed with celiac disease and went gluten-free, in May of 2010, I used to have sweet smelling urine, not all the time, but most often at night and in the early a.m. At that time, before the celiac disease diagnosis, I got all the glucose blood tests at my doctor's, and it was generally normal (90s). After going gluten-free, my urine 99.7...
