Oh my gosh. Never thought of that either--they use wheat grass. Ok today--no cereal, and I was fine until after dinner. Then massive D...like having to run to the toilet, twice. What I ate was; I made soup of bacon, onion, potato, rice, gluten-free vegetable stock. Topped with a TEASPOON of parmesan cheese. That's it. Can it be that this is from... -

ok, I'll give up the cap'n crunch--I thought it wasn't bothering me....but maybe it is the issue. I'll see how it goes. I just bought some gluten-free granola (udi's) from whole foods, it's helping me with the cereal craving. thanks! -

I have not been tested for food allergies....and I'm wondering if it might be a little virus, because the bf had a little bout of "D" last week. so it *might* be that, except that it has happened in previous weeks, like I have these episodes... I think the only thing I eat over and over would be the bread, the soy butter, eggs, potatoes, rice. -

I posted a previous thread a while ago regarding bowel issues (link) and just when I was getting 'regular' I seem to be reacting to foods that I was 'fine' with before. here's what I ate the past two days that has resulted in massive bowel cramping; sunday: brunch-- 2 eggs fried in soy butter hash browns cooked in veg oil bacon oj... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Gluten-Free Standard?
jeannieknits replied to xMichellex's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
this thread is perfect....peter your information is invaluable! I have been reacting lately to "gluten free" breads and now I'm thinking I know why. bummed out, but informed. thank you. -
ARCHIVED Can We Talk About Poop For A Minute?
jeannieknits replied to jeannieknits's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have the second scenario you stated above....so eloquently! and when I'm eating gluten I have major D. (in fact i've been tempted to indulge in some cake or donuts to "get things moving..." although I know I'll feel so lousy otherwise that it's not worth it) I hope you find some tips here, I have! -

I don't eat hardly any dairy--I have lactose "issues", but I'll look into the amitesa. (I have a son who had severe colon issues as a child; I've been "talking poop" on and off the internet for many years. the title seemed to fit! glad it made your day.) -

wow, lots of replies since I checked this last.... Marilyn: "This really works. Heat 1/4 cup prune juice and drink it. (Heating is essential.) Warm up 1-2 T. honey (in tea, or on it's own) 10 minutes later, and drink it. (For some reason, honey helps with the stomach pain associated with constipation.) Exercise if you feel well enough to do... -
ARCHIVED The Chateau Fairmont Lake Louise - Amazing!
jeannieknits replied to Katie B's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Oh! so nice to hear!! we stayed there when I was 9 years old, and I've dreamt of going back ever since. It's a magical place, and I'm glad to hear they cater to special dietary needs. Having been the general manager of a local high volume restaurant, I know how important making these changes are--I helped modify the menu and educate the staff once I was... -
I get this all the time; I'm 5'10 and 119 on a good day. I get the comments all the time. I'm drinking protein drinks first thing in the morning...it seems to maintain the weight. I really have a hard time "putting weight on" because it seems like I'll feel better for 2 weeks, and then have some sort of relapse or something that has me eating very little...

ARCHIVED Buy Noodles At Asian Markets!
jeannieknits replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
*another tip: the rice flours and tapioca flours, potato starch, etc., are SOOO cheap at the Asian market. I just got a pound of sweet rice flour for $1.49 (take that, whole foods!) Great for baking. I also saw ingredients like evaporated cane sugar, coconut jelly, all kinds of unusual things that us gluten-free cooking/baking people may need and can... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance Or Celiacs Disease; Does It Matter?
jeannieknits replied to Slovis's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
it is a "catch 22" type situation. (I have a few other pre-existing conditions that are already making insurance a fun game) but I see your points. it's too bad there isn't a more "efficient" test. -

thanks for the replies--I'm definitely going to increase the fruit, I tend to not eat it when I buy it, so I'll try canned first. I added some dulcolax stool softener to my oj this morning and had a lot of cramping, a little results, but not the "dam breakage" I'm looking for at this point! I've also started looking into the whole "nightshade" vegetables... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance Or Celiacs Disease; Does It Matter?
jeannieknits replied to Slovis's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm realizing this as well. My blood panel was negative, (after being off gluten for 2 weeks...hmmmm...) but I have all the symptoms. So I've just started telling people that it's celiacs. There's no way I'll eat gluten again, so it is what it is. -
ARCHIVED Can We Talk About Poop For A Minute?
jeannieknits posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I started on a strict gluten free diet in July, and at the time was having severe D. That cleared up quite quickly, and I was able to maintain a "comfortable", "regular" system. Then, within the past few months I've started this awful constipation. The only thing I can link it to is that when I was on my original gluten free diet I had completely eliminated... -

ARCHIVED My Little Curiosity Poll
jeannieknits replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I turn into a raving jerk! and it's funny (?) how long it took me to realize the connection. (my poor kids) YEARS. so, neuro issues: anxiety, rage, hyperactivity then brain fog. gastro: first sign is a sharp pain across the top of my belly under my ribs....then I know what's coming. then it's the IBS, constipation for a day the D for the next 2-3... -
ARCHIVED Weight Loss, You Look Like Crap.....
jeannieknits replied to false-light's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This sounds so familiar--I had to overhear my relatives "discussing" my weight at christmas like I wasn't 6 feet away in the kitchen. my mom tried to explain to them, "there's not a whole lot she can eat!" and I, too have been called anorexic. so frustrating. I've been drinking a protein drink every morning when I get up (I drink Orgain, it's organic... -

hummus. lots and lots of hummus. and I dip "food should taste good" chips in it--either the multi grain, the sweet potato (YUM) or tonight, the blue corn. it's protein and it fills me up when I'm not cooking for anyone else. eating, admittedly, is not my favorite pastime as of late. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Specific Food
jeannieknits replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I found I'm usually too disappointed in the gluten free options out there (except I'm currently in love with Udi cinnamon raison bread) so I'm just sticking with cooking gluten free. I do buy a few Amy's frozen gluten-free dinner options to have on hand when I'm too exhausted to cook for myself. I also live on chips. And hummus. -
ARCHIVED Stress Dreams About Eating Gluten Foods
jeannieknits replied to GFLindsey's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had the strangest dream that I opened a bag of flour and just scooped a handful of it into my mouth! and then I was like, "WHAT AM I DOING?????" and can you imagine trying to get WET FLOUR out of your mouth? it was horrible.... probably stemmed from me being glutened by a "gluten free" cupcake that same day. -
ARCHIVED Work Making Me Sick?
jeannieknits replied to sugarbeach's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was the general manager of a restaurant with a bakery in house--and I would have to deal with this all the time! The particles of flour in the air (it's such a fine particulate) was what was doing it for me. I would get sinus and throat reactions if I was back there too long. we also had a prep cook from Guatemala who, it turned out, probably had un... -
ARCHIVED Soy Sauce In Thai Kitchen Products
jeannieknits replied to jlee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't had any problems with their products--and I've noticed that ingredient as well. (I get a horrible reaction to regular soy sauce) Good luck....I think you'll be fine.
