All I have to say is DON'T EAT the pizza! I haven't had a bad reaction to gluten since last Christmas and some of my other food triggers had gone away so I lied to myself about my sensitivity. I started feeling super fatigued, but excused it away with stress and such (while continuing to eat the pizza). Got more and more tired with a low lying headache every...

ARCHIVED Recovery From Being Glutened
annegirl replied to englishrose's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had symptoms last 3 weeks after a glutening, they can definitely last a while. I've found that what works for my symptoms (inflamed digestive system, hurting stomach, bloating etc) is aloe vera and probiotics. I take them every morning before anything else and you can just feel it sooth. Peppermint tea is also very soothing while you recover. ... -
ARCHIVED Holiday Successes And Failures
annegirl replied to thleensd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My family was so amazing about making everything gluten free. They washed everything down, used separate cloths for anything floury etc. I feel so blessed to be so well taken care of. Unfortunately, I accidentally drank out of the wrong cup on Friday and it turned out my sister had eaten a sandwich while she drank out of that cup....so I spent Christmas... -
ARCHIVED Questions On Coping In General
annegirl replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok. I knew that I had seen a thread that was really encouraging a while back. I searched and searched and came up with it! This thread was encouraging to me, particularly the quote I inserted below. You're doing the best that you can to stay away from gluten. I think you probably need to cut yourself a bit of a break and try and focus on something else... -
I just usually reply with a "oh no thanks, I've got food allergies" and no one questions further. I know you want to keep personal and work life separate - but I don't think that crosses the line. Lots of people have food allergies, and you don't need to get down into the details of why and how and what you've got going on. You can always quickly follow that...

ARCHIVED Intro And Need Some Help And Advice
annegirl replied to shayori's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Sorry to hear about your intolerances. I know it is difficult to work with multiple ones. I would have to agree with the other posters that encouraged you to shop the "outside" of the store. At this point you're wanting to be very gentle to your digestive system. Try to go a little bland, and let things work out slowly. I would steer clear of the processed... -
I would definitely try going off soy. I never have believed it was the super health food like so many others did. Especially with it being genetically modified and round-uped within an inch of its life I think it's best to stay away. Yeah, soy and corn are hard to stay away from in combination with gluten....but after a little bit it will become second...

ARCHIVED Purposely Glutened
annegirl replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OMG. I'm still sick almost 4 weeks later from a tiny crumb of crouton in my salad. I really hope your symptoms don't last long! That was some serious glutening! I would definitely find a guilty pleasure that is gluten free for emergencies next time! There are some awesome donut recipes out there that are gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Question About Low Iodine Diet
annegirl replied to George Knighton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Iodized salt has dextrose in it to keep it from clumping. You might want to check and see if you have a sensitivity to corn instead of the iodine. As for fresh chicken and dried beans - those should be salt free, unless the chicken you get is injected with any type of solution. You might check with the butcher to be safe. Real salt is iodine free... -
Hey! Sorry you're having a rough time. I know it can be a bummer. What I'd recommend doing is learning how to create your own goodies. Google "Elana's Pantry" for some great gluten/dairy free recipes for cookies/cakes/muffins etc. Next time your friends invite you for tea, go and bring a plate of goodies with you! Same goes for snacks. Try: fruit...

ARCHIVED Recovery Time After Glutening?
annegirl replied to annegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have taken a good probiotic in the past, but haven't the last couple of weeks because of traveling. I will start that up again when I return home! Thanks for the activated charcoal idea. I will definitely test that! I'm sorry to hear your reactions are so long too. Kinda a bummer to go through that for a baby crumb. -
I got nailed but good with a crouton crumb in a salad on Sept 20th. I was sick sick for 4 days, throwing up, couldn't eat a thing etc. My stomach felt inflamed and sore with a weird burning sensation that is hard to describe. Now I'm over 2 weeks out from the initial glutening and I'm still having issues. I can't eat very much at a time, I suddenly will...

ARCHIVED First Time On Plane Celiac
annegirl replied to slee11211's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
You all should give Trio bars a try. I love them, and they're much yummier than Lara Bars. They have three seeds, nuts and fruits in them. As far as airplane food, I just flew and packed a baggie of sliced peaches and a baggie of chicken to eat with gluten free crackers. I also have salad dressing in little carry on size toiletry containers, fruit strips... -
ARCHIVED A Little On The Frivilous Side...
annegirl replied to saintmaybe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
>sigh< I'm discovering that. I bought the clothes, got glutened and lost 5 pounds, and now I'm traveling for 2 full weeks and with the food options available I'm gonna lose more. I'm at a government facility and had made arrangements for food, but when they asked if I could have plain white flour with a "wheat" allergy (they didn't know what gluten... -
ARCHIVED Extreme Reaction To Glutening
annegirl replied to annegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I looked it up....and though hard to see many symptoms it seems like the type of pain comes in "waves" where my pain is a constant. Almost like my stomach and intestines are completely contracted and never release. Thanks for the idea and I will continue researching! -
ARCHIVED A Little On The Frivilous Side...
annegirl replied to saintmaybe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You're right! Finding ways to pamper yourself really make a difference. I've lost 53 pounds since Feb and went from a size 18/16 to a size 8 - I just went and bought a whole new closet full of clothes (never done that before!!). It was so nice to try something on and have my sister say it was too big, get a smaller size. My most favorite pamper is a... -
I've been gluten free since Fenruary 1, 2011. I know I've had a couple little cc things, but with my other allergies I just tend to only eat what I cook so I've been fine. Last Tuesday I went to lunch with 3 people I was working with, so I ordered a salad with no croutons (brought my own dressing). Long story short, one of the last bites I took I crunched...

I started having funny reactions when I started eating chex too. Turned out it was the corn. You might try eliminating corn (good luck, it's hard!) and see if that helps.
-
Honestly, I didn't even try it. I just got some vodka and made my own. I have noticed that I don't get quite so violently ill with corn now that I've taken some probiotics and healed my gut a little. I still think I have depression issues and some fatigue when I eat it, so I know how hard it is to nail that down sometimes. I'm very sensitive to xanthan...

ARCHIVED Intolerant Of Corn....but Not
annegirl replied to annegirl's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hehe, I'm a sadder but wiser girl now. Corn tortillas and chips don't give me horrible stomach pain.....but they DO give me 3 days worth of depression. Classic gluten symptom for me. Can't believe it took me 3 tries to connect the dots! So yeah, no corn for this girl again. I'm done "experimenting" with it for good. -
I totally understand the freaking out, and not wanting to eat something different. I have several other intolerances on top of gluten that make it very difficult, if not impossible, to eat what others do. I really honestly hope this doesn't come across as harsh or mean. I come from a more tough love family so take this with all the love in the world...

ARCHIVED Intolerant Of Corn....but Not
annegirl replied to annegirl's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I react to xanthan gum, caramel color, cornstarch....and the list goes on. Basically every name that corn runs under I will react to. That's why this is so strange. I will get sick on something, research back and find a derivative of corn somewhere, but it appears that the whole corn is fine. My level of reaction also seems to depend on the time of the... -
The weight loss is for sure getting off gluten. Once I went off (Feb 1) I started losing weight like crazy. I'm down 43 pounds and going strong. My theory is that my body was storing all these toxins because I would gain weight for no reason and so quickly! Now with it falling off it's like my body just realized it could release it all. Congratulations...

Isn't digestion just crazy?? Well, I'm not going to look this gift horse in the mouth! Tacos and chips and salsa can now go to the top of my list again!!
