  1. I so ditto the watching family members cook. I walked into the kitchen just in time to see my dad put garlic salt (soy) on the hamburger patties. He rarely cooks (and he's the only one that puts garlic salt on hamburger patties) so if I hadn't seen it I would have thought they were safe and ended up being sick. Even when people try their hardest it's tough...
  2. You are so right. We didn't feel good at all. That is a big positive of now....unless we eat something wrong that is! And yeah, I REALLY can't do corn or anything associated. I have had a lot of bad luck cutting corn out because it is EVERYWHERE! I got coke in a glass bottle from Winco last night thinking yyyyaaaaaay! It's sugar! I can drink...
  3. To the OP - yes there is hope! I was under 100 pounds until about 16 when I started gaining weight up to my heaviest of 184. I would diet, using the South Beach diet and feel great losing all the weight, but that was with exercising 2+ hours a day. Of course once I added wheat back in I felt terrible and gained the weight back so fast it was crazy. I have...
  4. I've actually experienced that exact opposite! I've always struggled with weight, and gained weight very quickly and almost inexplicably. I just weighed in this morning and in the 2 months that I've been gluten etc etc free I've lost 20 pounds. I have been trying to use this time to really think about what I'm putting in my body and the effects. After...
  5. I feel your pain! I've lost several food groups over the last 2 months. It can be depressing. (yeah, I should never have said, "they can pry Coke from my cold dead fingers!" dang high fructose corn syrup) I think some of it is that you probably have other intolerances that just added to the whole "sick" overall feeling. Some could also be that your...
  6. I know! Now that I'm keeping a food journal it's really helping. And since my brain fog has lifted I can actually remember what I did a couple days ago instead of struggling to find words! >sigh< I think it might be beans though..... >sniffle<
  7. Oh my gosh! Me too!! I guess we were sharing a bubble. I was always proud that I could eat pretty much anything and find something to enjoy about it. All the while dealing with wild stomach issues that I thought were normal because I had always felt that way. >shakes head< Silly me. At this point the only thing that is really bugging me that I can...
  8. I'm so sorry! When that happened to me it ended up being dairy that was the problem, and then soy, and then corn. You might think back over what you've eaten and see if there is anything that you've eaten lately that could have caused it. I know for me, each time I had a bad reaction to something else I had accidentally eaten it a couple of times...
  9. The physician's assistant actually told me to wait on the tests until she could confirm with her mom (gluten, dairy, soy etc etc free!!) what tests she took that were beneficial. She told me that she felt the tests did not really show what was going on. Thank goodness for reasonable doctors! She's going to do some research and get back to me with some options...
  10. Thanks guys! I'm glad I'm not the only one. It has just been crazy. Since I've gone gluten free I get a new intolerance every 1-2 weeks. I feel much better, but keep having these days where I'm sick from something else! I was researching corn free last night. Wow, harder than gluten, harder than dairy, harder than soy. >sniffle< I'm losing my last...
  11. Ok, so I'm starting to feel like a super SUPER freak. Does anyone else that starts accumulating a bunch of food allergies start feeling like your brain starts making it up?!?! Last night I had tostados made with homemade refried beans and corn tortillas I baked in the oven. This morning I woke up with an eye slightly swollen, I though it was odd but moved...
  12. If you google it you will find some conversations on soy free tuna. Check Costco's Kirkland brand.
  13. Oh yes I've noticed. I basically don't eat anything right now that doesn't require cooking before consumption. I'm sick of being sick! I am looking forward to adding in some gluten/soy free mayo this summer for chicken salad (alas, no croissant to go with it! ).
  14. I actually plan a day in advance. To go grocery shopping I buy all the basic ingredients that I know I will want to use and have a bunch of different meat packaged in single servings in my freezer. That way I take advantage of whatever meat is on sale and buy about 10 meals worth at a time. I have a 2 hour commute every day for work so during the week...
  15. Oh yes, I so agree with you. Soy is the worst. It took me 3 days to just feel ok. I'm still having some swollen gland issues too. I'll just hang in there and ride it out then. Just with so many issues popping up at once I'm getting paranoid that I'm allergic to everything! As soon as I realized it was the soy that made me sick I cleaned it all out of...
  16. I love how someone somewhere gets to decide that soybean oil can't affect you....that was my worst reaction and the one that highlighted what was actually making me sick (on top of gluten and dairy). Ditto on the Enjoy Life brand! I <3 them for making chocolate things that I can eat. As far as the soy reaction goes...I get a "chemically" headache, fatigue...
  17. Sorry!!!! That sucks big time. The only thing I do that helps is drink lots and lots of peppermint tea. For some reason it soothes my whole body's yucky feeling.....and I don't really get horrible gastric reactions. Feel better! Don't beat yourself up too bad. It's hard to get used to being so vigilant about food all the time.
  18. Hey there, Sorry you're feeling so awful. I know it sucks and makes school really hard. I've been there. You might also check into limiting or eliminating soy. I have slowly realized that I have just as bad a reaction to soy as I do to gluten. It's pretty tough to eliminate, but if it is your problem it's totally worth it! Good luck and hang...
  19. I guess I'm lucky in that before I was allergic to everything in sight, my brother in law was allergic to nuts. So my family was already used to having to deal with the CC issue from allowing things to touch surfaces that had anything to do with nuts. My family has been really amazing about everything, but they saw how sick I was and how rapidly I recovered...
  20. Thanks guys. You all have really encouraged me. I went over to my parents and sorta melted a little to them and they looked at me like I was crazy and wanted to know why I was hinging everything on one little test. My health is night and day different since Feb 1, 2011. That really is fast for someone to go from feeling like they're dying to actually wanting...
  21. Back in February after running all kinds of other tests my doctor off hand said that maybe I should try a gluten free diet to see if maybe I had "leaky gut" or something similar. I went gluten free, viola! I felt 1 million times better. Go back a month later and she's glad for me, but I actually had more information on celiac/gluten free than she did. I...
  22. Made me feel better too! I've been going crazy all day trying to figure out what gluten I ate. Even went back to the usually safe Mexican restaurant I ate at last night and made them tell me the ingredients in everything I ate. No gluten. Just too much week and a little cold. >rolls eyes< It's hard not to be psycho and always think every twinge is...
  23. I'm not sure actually....I know I had a bunch of tests done (including thyroid) before my dr asked me to try gluten free before getting diagnosed with celiac. I'll look into it!
  24. Oh sad. Hey! Combined we could almost be normal!
  25. Thanks guys!Good info. I eat most of the fruits and veggies raw (only exceptions on fruits are homemade/canned applesauce and peaches). I do eat prunes on occasion to "get things going" and it helps (gives me really bad stomach cramps though). I also eat raw almonds....so I'm sorta at a loss as to what exactly could be causing the issue. I eat steamed...
