  1. Welp, cabbages are out. Some shredded for fresh kraut, the others awaiting to be chopped up for chow-chow and sweet and sour red cabbage. Lots of pickles put up (thank you sweetheart). Maters are about to turn I'm sure cuz we're going to take a little vacation break. Got a few killer zukes and yellow squash with lots of blossoms. Can't wait to get back and...
  2. My biggest challenges and concerns are being careful to not contaminate my wife. I do not have celiac and we are not a 100% gluten free house so I need to be very careful on what I use and where and to be sure to clean up my mess when done.
  3. Ken, Just out of curiosity, what happens if you over process something. Say the reipe calls for 15 minutes at 10 pounds but you go for 20, what would be the results?
  4. The base to a turkey fryer will produce enough heat to get the job done.
  5. If it were me, I'd bring my own food and not really care what they thought about it. My wife brings her own any time we go to a family gathering. As far as the BBQ goes, the meat itself is okay, the problem is what did they possibly season or rub it with and what was on that smoker before. There is no way to be certain so I'd would suggest that you pass...
  6. I had to go. I knew that there were beans and cukes to take care of . Now, if anyone has an idea for zuchinni and yellow squash, we're in business.
  7. I'm not scooping grape leaves outta the pool.
  8. While I do agree ith you that talking to the manager may be helpful, I'm not sure that I would trust the employees to follow through. To many things are to big of a hassle for some people. Just my .02 worth.
  9. In this house, every month is celiac awareness month
  10. Answer: Yeah, bring me back something good, I'll pay you later.
  11. I got news for all of you. You don't have to have celiac to do some of these things. Just ask my wife, she'll rat me out.:-x
  12. LadyK, Not to insult or offend anyone ie, your mom, grandmother or aunt but, to some, ignorance is bliss. Maybe you could make your grandmother a gluten-free meal without her knowing. When she co,pliments it, let her know it was gluten-free. Maybe you should buy some new jeans
  13. My wife has celiac, I do not. For the most part I eat what she eats as far as meals go. We cook together and I have learned the do's and don'ts. But, just because there are foods that she can't eat and I can (and enjoy), doesn't mean that I have to go without. I still have my sammiches on gluten bread and keep my favorite adult malt beverage on hand. I travel...
  14. Maybe not seperate kitchens but....... We do cook gluten foods in our home on occasion but all cookware is seperated. My wife has hers that have never been used for gluten foods and I have mine. We try to keep the gluten contained to one area only. I will say that your husband is quite insensitive to your needs. At holidays or parties, my wife seperates...
  15. Glad that you finally made the decision to take the jump. It's also good that your husband is supportive. It will be hard for both of you but definately worth it. One of the first things that you need to do is get rid of or segregate all of your plastic storage containers. Get yourself glass dishes. Stainless steel cookware is also important. Anything that...
  16. I probably should not have posted about the torch and scrubbing with a wire brush. I like the idea of buying $$$$$ new grates too.
  17. What if your husband takes a torch and scrubs and burns the grates off and the inside. Can you use the grill then?
