  1. Hi gang, It's been a while since I've been on here! Hope you all are doing well. My girlfriend and I (both of us are gluten-free) are travelling to a wedding next month in Cicero, NY - North Syracuse area. Most of our meals will be taken care of, but we're still going to need dinner one night, and maybe some other stuff along the way. Any suggestions...
  2. Thanks gang! I appreciate the advice, and knowing that some of you have been through the same. I have gave her a book a few months ago, and have given her all kinds of resources, which she has not really done much of anything with. I think that's the aggravating part. She seems a bit better since I blew up, and after I explained a few days later this isn...
  3. Sorry gang, I need to vent a bit here... My mom seems to only understand what gluten free means if I walk her through every single step. She wanted to make a meatloaf the other week, which she did fine with - no CC issues at all! She's sometimes really good, sometimes really not good. Over the last 4 weeks, she wanted to send cake home with me after...
  4. Despite the fact that I'm over 30, I think I'm eating like a teenage boy again. Now that said, I do still count my morning snack (included here) as breakfast. Don't know if that makes it any better! 2 jumbo scrambled eggs 1 Rice cake with organic Peanut Butter 1 Fresh Apple 3 slices of Hormel Natural Turkey 2 handfuls of Planters mixed nuts
  5. Hey gang, My mom was so excited to make a meatloaf for me earlier this week. It is her signature dinner fiod! Until she started to actually make it ... apparantely she used half a bag of glutino bread crumbs, and was still having problems shaping the meatloaf. It tasted just fine, but definitely fell apart fairly easily. Any tips on how to hold a gluten...

    ARCHIVED Taco Bell

Agree with Skylark. I'd stay away from it. Personally, now that there's a Qdoba AND Chipotle within 10 minutes of me, Taco Bell just does not appeal to me any more.
  8. I have been eating like a horse lately! Now I'm in the Northeast U.S. (Philadelphia), so I imagine the temperature dropping may have something to do with it. My body may be telling me I need more insulation!
  9. Hey Triple, I'm with you on the meds! I don't take much to begin with anyway, and am trying to take less even now. Basically, I just take a multi vitamin, and that's about it. I've read a LOT of people use Nature Made for vitamins. After doing a little reading on here, even though I know it's cheaper, I'm going to try to avoid the mail order. ...
  10. So you can see from my pic I'm a guitar player. Though I'm not playing it in the pic, my favorite guitar to play is my Gibson Les Paul (2003 Standard, slim 60's neck, Cherry Burst finish, for the fellow guitar players who want to geek out with me. ) Goof was my nickname in school. It started when I wore a Disney Goofy hat to "Crazy hat day" as a...
  11. You said they did a blood test. Have you had an upper endoscopy done, to rule out anything else? I would give your doctor a call. Sometimes the blood can mean something like an ulcer, which is easily treatable.
  12. I am gluten sensitive (biopsy negative). Give it some time, and I can assure you that if it is gluten, you WILL know. For me, it was only a few weeks, but for others it can be longer. My energy level went through the roof, the "brain fog" went away, and I felt better than I had in years! So be patient! And be as strict as you can about kicking the gluten...

  14. I say why not?? If there's a hole in the market for this kind of book, and it's something you are passionate about, do it!!! You can't go wrong with doing something you have a passion to do.
  15. As I was thinking about this, I would actually try a few changes to your diet first...I find drinking decaf helps A LOT. Caffeine can be pretty bad for reflux. Add some honey to the decaf tea, too. That's what singers will do when they're sick or have voice issues becasue it coats and soothes the throat. And it's tasty! Switch to decaf or herbal tea...
  16. I had the sore throat, and that turned out to be acid reflux. That was the first symptom I noticed, which is still one of my symptoms when I get cross contaminated. If you drink coffee or tea, or eat a lot of chocolate, that could be it. That's where the Barrett's that mommida mentioned usually comes from. Gluten will beat up your stomach, and for the...
  17. Jill, I would say you're on the right track. I'm in the same boat as you, underweight for sure! I dropped about 20 lbs without trying before going gluten-free. It sounds like you're focusing on the right things - protein, fruits and veggies. I've really put a premium on the proteins, particularly lean protiens (I eat a lot of turkey and chicken, and the...
  18. I didn't have the numbness so much in my feet and legs as much as my hands. (As a guitar player, it still freaks me out!!) But that will improve with a consistent gluten-free diet, no cross contamination or anything. I'm only about 6 months into the diet, so it's been really up and down. But I have noticed that when I am truly gluten free, the numbness...
  19. I'm guessing it has something to do with this particular formulation. I've used other brands, and felt just fine with them. I stopped taking it the end of last week, and feel SO much better! I did a little digging on the company this weekend. I found that the FDA cited them in July 2011 for CC issues. (Unfortunately, it did not cite the ingredients...
  20. So I've been taking a generic Omeprazole for the last couple of weeks, and have had two reactions from CC in that time. I've gone through everything I've eaten and taken, called manufacturers of meds...and the only conclusion I can come to is something, either CC or a binding agent, in the Omeprazole. I usually get it through a mail order pharmacy (won...

ARCHIVED Saw My New Pcp Today..

It might not hurt to call your insurance company and explain the situation, that your PCP is disregarding a diagnosis of celiac by a GI, and you like to find someone else in network and preferably near by. There might be options that you don't know about, simply because they're not made obviously known. Ultimately, it is in the insurance company's best interest...
  22. I like to have some kind of nuts around to snack on. Actually, it's become a standard part of my day. I will often keep a jar of nuts on my desk at work. I usually take a Nature Vally Peanut Crunch bar to work in the morning (bright gluten free labeling on package). Popcorn is another one I like to munch on, too. Tasty and cheap! Try to stick to the...

  24. Agreed! Talk to your doctor, and go get tested. But don't change your diet beforehand. Otherwise, it can affect the results, and you'll have to go back on gluten for several weeks. I had many of the same symptoms. Once I went gluten free, the difference was huge!!
  25. Once you do go gluten free, you won't want to go back! I felt a difference within a week, though I know from being on the boards here that is an unusually short amount of time. I'm not exhausted all the time anymore, I don't have mood swings, my appetite has come back with a vengance, and my GI tract functions WAY better. If you have been diagnosed (after...
