ARCHIVED Blood Sugar Crash.. Near Panic Like Episode During Gluten Free?
sreese68 replied to asickdaddy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I posted to your other post. These symptoms describe my neurological reactions to gluten exactly except for the breathless part. The faintness and weakness were mild but would show up in waves. The worst shakiness came around 2 or 3 hours without eating, but it never completely went away. I always thought my slight hypoglycemia I've had for 20 years was... -
Just FYI: my symptoms are mostly neurological (neuropathy). When I did a gluten challenge, I felt this way the entire time and for a few days afterward. It's my main symptom apparently. (Felt it when glutened a bit ago). And thanks for posting all of the above. My daughter is currently on day 4 of a gluten challenge. No obvious signs of problems yet...

ARCHIVED Reffered Here

I would absolutely have him tested for celiac!!! Make sure he eats plenty of bread or pizza before the blood test. (Has to be eating gluten for the test to be accurate.) Make sure they do the full celiac panel. False negatives are pretty common (my blood work was negative), so even if it's negative, you should consider demanding a biopsy or doing a gluten... -
ARCHIVED Daughter's Gluten Challenge - 4 Days No Reaction So Far!
sreese68 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My 12yo daughter's been gluten free for about 8 or 9 weeks now. (well, up until Saturday) We were wondering if her migraines were caused or made worse by gluten. She's had gluten 2 to 3 times a day for 4 days now and no reaction so far. She's had McDonald's chicken nuggets, Gatti's pizza, Subway sandwich, favorite bread, etc. I told her to get her favorites... -

OK, THIS is my last post! LOL! I can eat white rice just fine. Brown rice is a problem. Potatoes are fine for me. You'll find that everyone has different foods they can tolerate or not. You just have to experiment. Keep a log of ALL foods you eat and your symptoms. Be aware that you can react up to 3 days after you eat something. My typical reaction... -

One last post, and then I need to get my kids off the Wii and doing something! I don't have the tingling in my abdomen. Just pain. Have you googled autonomic neuropathy? It's a type of neuropathy that can effect the digestive tract. I have peripheral neuropathy caused by gluten, and I wonder about the autonomic type. Anyway, it's something to think about... -

Yes. I also made sure to increase my fiber as well. Now before you think that the fiber is what got rid of the pain, hear me out! LOL! I eliminated soy, lactose, gluten, and some other things (FODMAP diet) and got better but still had pain in my side some days. I started to slowly increase the fiber in my diet by a gram or two a day. Pain went down again... -

Carrageenan is a seaweed. I've read online that it can be a problem for people with stomach issues. I personally am avoiding it until I can figure all my food issues out. Their sliced ham doesn't have it. I think the chicken chunks don't, but you'd have to double check. -

I didn't see this when I posted earlier. The only reason I went to the GI in the first place was pain in my lower right abdomen. It went on for 8 or 9 months. Turned out to be caused by chronic constipation. In my case, my intestines seem to slow down and cause back up and pressure there. Anytime I eat a food that doesn't agree with me, it gets worse... -

I noticed that I had a worse than normal acne break out when I did my gluten challenge (eating it) recently. It cleared up and was better after I got off gluten again even though it was a time that normally I'd break out (I'm female, so my acne is greatly effected by my hormones.) I get the deep cystic acne and have fought it since 15. I'm 42 now. I don... -
ARCHIVED Best Way To Wash Old Baking Pans?

Dawn Power Dissolver is great on baked-on residue. I was able to completely clean a glass baking dish that had had brown/burn residue spots on it. It isn't for scratched non-stick, but you shouldn't keep that anyway! Good luck! (Oh, I had a set of cupcake tins with little lines circling each hole for the cupcakes. I figured I could never clean those... -
ARCHIVED How Long To See Improvement After Eliminating Food?

Trying to keep this short. I have a major all-day headache from dental work this morning. Tiny cavities, but at gum line. Ouch! I started feeling better last night and have felt good all day today - well my GI tract, not the head! I think I may have been having symptoms from glutening. I had a friend help me get the last of the flour out of the house... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Advice?
sreese68 replied to SpiralArrow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have gotten good advice on the test already. I had negative bloodwork, but my neurologist told me that I NEEDED to go gluten-free for awhile to see if I responded to the diet. I really wish I had eaten ALL of my favorite gluten-filled foods one last time before going on the diet because I know now I can never have them again. I would have savored every... -

I forgot to include coffee in my count. I do drink coffee - 4 cups a day. I plan on starting to cut back this week. Only thing else I drink is water. And I take 5 Citrucels a day. I also take fish oil, multivitamin, and vitamin D. All gluten free. (My gluten symptoms are neuro, not GI.) Chicken hamburger meat pork (this may be an issue) eggs peanut... -

Edited: Feel really good today. Think I pinned it down to glutening. Update post #7. ****OP**** I'm down to 15 foods, and my stomach still isn't great. I had pain yesterday, and I honestly don't know why. I keep getting bloating, gas, and constipation on and off. I keep flirting with dairy free, but I haven't stuck with it long term. It's now day... -

My symptoms are neuro, and I had originally seen my neurologist for peripheral neuropathy. I went gluten-free for 8 weeks before I did a gluten challenge (my bloodwork was negative, but my neurologist told me to go gluten-free anyway). I ate gluten 3 times a day until I was convinced gluten was a problem. I had jitteriness, hypoglycemia, brain fog, lightheadedness... -
ARCHIVED Superfine Vs Regular White Rice Flour? Used Too Much?
sreese68 replied to sreese68's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for the info! I haven't figured out all my food intolerances yet, so I haven't played with other flours yet. That's good info to know when I'd ready to do so. I rarely improvise in the kitchen I have to admit. I have zero natural talent as a cook, so I have to find well-tested recipes that tell me EXACTLY what to do!! It's the only way I've... -
I forgot to mention this as well. I used the Billings Method to conceive and avoid pregnancy depending on timeframe. Using it, I discovered that my period was coming too close to ovulation, so I may not have had enough stuff (technical term) lining my uterine wall to support pregnancy. (I was still nursing my second child, which caused my periods to not...

Gluten effects me neurologically mostly. I'm 42 and I believe I've been celiac since college because the first time I had bad tingling in my arms happened then. (My boss left town and left a TON of computer work for us to do. Out of 5 women, I was the only one to have problems.) I also started to have slight hypoglycemia then, and it went away gluten...

ARCHIVED Superfine Vs Regular White Rice Flour? Used Too Much?
sreese68 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I recently made the tastes-like-saltines recipe in the Easy Gluten Free Baking cookbook. She said to use white rice flour bought from an Asian market and brown rice flour. I used superfine white rice flour and superfine brown rice flour from Authentic Foods. The dough was VERY dry, so I had to add extra water. Then, it rolled out to be MUCH bigger than... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Bran?

I meant that the OP could test her reaction to gluten by eating barley. That way she would know if she reacted to wheat due to a wheat allergy vs due to gluten. -
ARCHIVED Wheat Bran?
sreese68 replied to DanieGurl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If it were me, I'd eat it again. I'd want to be absolutely sure gluten is causing problems before eliminating it for the rest of my life. You didn't say if you're eating gluten free right now? If not, you may want to for a few weeks first. Then try the wheat bran in/on a food that you're eating that definitely doesn't cause you to break out. If the pancakes... -

My mother had early-onset Alzheimer's, so I'm speaking from experience here. (Didn't know I had celiac at the time, so didn't deal with CC issues, but I know about the memory problems.) Your MIL with Alzheimer's will NOT be able to remember CC issues. She will NOT be able to remember which side of the kitchen is gluten free and which isn't. You can mark... -
