  1. In case anyone is still following this, I had ITP between my ankles and knees for about 5 years. I also bled forever (sometimes for an hour) after nicking myself shaving. I never made the connection until after going gluten free in May, 2011. The ITP was gone in a week and small cuts clotted within a minute or so. In me there was absolutely a strong connection...
  2. I am rairly recently self-diagnosed and looking at family I am convinced my mom was gluten sensitive. I also suspect a my daughters, a brother and 3 nieces. I will have one of my daughters tested, but my grown daughter, who has IBS, will have nothing to do with it. Regarding other autoimmune disorders, I had symptoms what I think is rheumatoid arthritis...
  3. Need a Probiotic without gluten, soy, corn, dairy or lactose. I read labels and appreciate seeing things market as being free of gluten and dairy, but nobody seems to state the other stuff. Any recommendations?
  4. I've not felt right much of the time after going gluten free last May. I have good days and bad days. I've gone through every food intolerance imaginable except one that should have been obvious. To maintain a healthy diet I started eating just meats, fresh vegetables and fruit - specifically an apple and a banana a day. I finally figured out today that...
  5. OK, I thought I had this figured out, but I got hit again this morning. I've been taking GNC Solotron as my multi-vitamin. The product website states clearly that it does not contain soy. BUT when looking more closely at ingredients, the E is from d-alpha Tocopheryl Succinate. Looking further into that, I found that it was derived from wheat germ, but...
  6. I just posted this in another area, but should have shared it here. I've been feeling unwell for a few weeks and trying to find the cause has been killing me, but I think I finally have it. I reread labels on all supplements. The Spring Valley Vitamin E I started on a little while does not list soy as an ingredient, but it is not mentioned along with the...
  7. I've been feeling unwell for a few weeks and trying to find the cause has been killing me, but I think I finally have it. I reread labels on all supplements. The Spring Valley Vitamin E I started on a little while does not list soy as an ingredient, but it is not mentioned along with the things it is free of: gluten, salt, sugar, artificial color or flavor...
  8. I've read that gluten is sometimes added to pulp for paper to make it whiter. I've also read that soy ink is used in newspapers. Can anybody conform either?
  9. I am still relatively new to the gluten free lifestyle and am finding many other food intolerances. I am going to take a ski vacation in February and am trying to figure out what I can eat. Here is what I know I can't have: gluten soy corn rice lactose tree nuts (nasty allergy) salmon (another nasty allergy) eggs nightshades I'm still wondering...

    ARCHIVED Soy

You will also find soy as part of the vegetable broth in canned meats and tuna. I found out the hard way. Soy hits me almost as hard as gluten and like gluten, it seems to be everywhere.
  11. The oily, floating stuff is probably because you are not absorbing fat. The technical term is steatorrhea.
  12. Have you checked via an elimination diet for other food intolerances? Around a month after getting off gluten I found soy nailed me almost as badly as gluten. Later it was other grains and just now I am having mild, but noticeable reactions to dairy and eggs. Don't know what my small intestine looks like as a result of eating offending foods, but I know...
  13. There is also a vacuum regarding knowledge of celiac and other food intolerances in the psychiatric field. I was treated for ADD, depression and anxiety and nobody ever asked a question that could have suggested gluten. They are unbelievably uninformed.
  14. My 17 year old daughter, who I will have tested soon, looks for gluten-free things for me. She tells me what stores she finds them in and also brand names. Sweet.
  15. 0+, CMV-. Light brown hair, blue eyes. Grandfather of Irish descent and mom's side has Danish roots. If you don't know what CMV negative is, I have never been exposed to the Cytomegalovirus, a flu-like virus most people are exposed to at some point. CMV can be dangerous to individuals with weakened immune systems, newborns and people undergoing organ...
  16. Could be intolerances to other foods. I recently found that eating corn (kernel corn, chips, cereals...) makes me extremely fatigued. Rice too, but t a lesser degree. I suspect I should stay off all grains.
  17. Must be the lectins, which I was not aware of before this post. Thanks for the info.
  18. I diagnosed myself as gluten intolerant in May and have been gluten free, aside from accidental cc, since then. However, I am now sensitive to soy, corn and rice. Soy gets me almost as badly as gluten, but corn and rice just induce tremendous fatigue (makes for a good sleep aid) and cause my pulse and blood pressure to increase. My thinking is that symptoms...
  19. Mine actually went from high to normal when I went off gluten, soy, corn and rice.
  20. Self diagnosed May 8, 2011 MUCH, much better physically, emotionally and mentally, but I really don't know what 100% is.
  21. After loads of research and realizing that the fatigue was an all day thing, not just in the afternoon, I decided to look at my thyroid. I had been eating broccoli or spinach every day and found out that both inhibit absorption of iodine. So I started taking kelp, which has iodine in it, and within 48 hours had a lot more physical and mental energy. I...
  22. A family friend who is a nurse suggested it may be as simple as low blood sugar. She suggested this as opposed to thyroid as I am OK in the morning and decline in the afternoon. My diet has been animal protein and complex carbs with various vitamins and other supplements. Perhaps it is as simple of not getting enough carbs so I started taking honey several...
  23. I've tried cutting coffee - no help. I take vegan vitamins after figuring out a soy intolerance and finding soy in other vitamins. Looked for other food intolerances via an elimination diet and not finding anything. My diet has been very basic to try to keep possible offending foods out. Guess I may need to have thyroid checked.
  24. I will be gluten free for 4 months tomorrow. I thought I had things figured out regarding diet, etc, but lately have been getting extremely fatigued starting in the early afternoon. I drink a lot of coffee, but struggle to stay awake until 9:00 when I fall into bed and sleep for 8 hours. Mornings are relatively OK and I do work out then, but sometimes...
  25. I have found melatonin to cause a bad hangover. I started taking it 10 days ago and progressively felt more and more fatigued throughout the day. Getting up in the morning was difficult and I just couldn't get going. Started drinking lots more coffee and it just didn't do anything. I got to the point of feeling physically ill I was so tired. I finally...
