ARCHIVED Tooth Abcess Healing After Going Gluten Free
Austin Guy posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had a molar replaced by a dental implant and crown 6 years ago. Six months ago the gum started to hurt. Then small pieces of bone were popping out of the gum and puss started coming out between the implant and gum. My dentist told me the implant was failing and recommended an oral surgeon if it didn't heal on its own. He said to give it a month or two... -
Walmart sells protein shots that are around 3 oz and have 26 grams of protein. I keep these around and find that they help regulate hunger a bit as well as giving me a great dose of protein. They contain whey, so if you can't do lactose, don't try them. I've also found them for less at Academy Sports in case you have any close.

ARCHIVED Short Kids
Austin Guy replied to Austin Guy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not seeing any other signs in the kids, but can't do gluten and I am pretty sure my mom was sensitive. We just knew nothing about gluten intolerance, but mom was a very picky eater and she may have been avoiding gluten without really knowing it. -
I have 2 nieces and neither is over 5' 1" tall. The younger one has size 8 feet, which is huge for a short girl. She goes through carbs in the form of pasta, crackers, etc. like mad. She is very active, doesn't have any body fat and I think puberty was delayed. She is 14 and just began to get girlish hips. Her 17 year old sister is at least 60 lbs...

That was a very cool thing to do!

ARCHIVED How Much Gluten Do I Need To Be Eating For The Blood Test?
Austin Guy replied to Notso's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am not getting tested. Eating gluten for more than a day would just kill me. I couldn't live with the sickness. Being healthy on a gluten free diet is enough of a diagnosis for me. -
ARCHIVED Six Flags - St. Louis
Austin Guy replied to CeliacMom2008's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I did Six Flags Fiesta Texas with kids a few weeks ago. A cooler in the car with water, protein, fruit and snacks was very welcome. It was safe for me to eat and didn't cost us a tenth of what park food would have cost. Being in the car with the AC running on a 100 degree day was also a huge plus. -
ARCHIVED Odd Benefits Of Going Gluten Free
Austin Guy replied to Cattknap's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Within 48 hours of going gluten free 7 weeks ago acne on my back vanished. I used to get it every summer and one problem was that it itched a lot. I would scratch and bleed and stain shirts, sheets, etc. I've noticed that my skin in an overall sense is better as well. Not as dry, no blemishes and my face actually looks younger. Pretty amazing! -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Family Members
Austin Guy posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm a self-diagnosed Celiac as of 5 weeks ago (don't have insurance and tests are expensive). Changes in mental, emotional and physical health after going gluten free have been absolutely amazing already. I've been glutened a couple of times in the last month and have had a nasty reaction within 30 minutes. I suspect my 2 daughters are gluten intolerant... -
ARCHIVED Allergy Question
Austin Guy replied to Austin Guy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow, I'm very happy for you having such great results. I've been gluten free for a very short time compared to many in this forum, but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens over time. I'm certainly not going to eat a nut or salmon, but I may let a small piece touch the inside of my lip and see what kind of reaction I get. I hope I can eat salmon again... -
Actually Helotes, on the northwest side of the SAT area. Not formally diagnosed with Celiac, but everything fits. I don't feel a need for the blood test or biopsy. Celiac explains so many problems going way back to childhood. Anyway, is there a group in SA for the gluten free crowd?

ARCHIVED Please Sign This Petition For gluten-free Girl Scout Cookies!
Austin Guy replied to Gardening's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good luck with that, but I doubt it will happen. Low demand and cost may not makt economically feasible. Girl Scout cookies have a terribly low profit margin as it is. -
ARCHIVED Allergy Question
Austin Guy posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been extremely allergic to nuts and salmon and am allergic to many pollens and mold. Even touching a small part of either to a mucous membrane can bring on anaphylactic symptoms so I am very, very careful as to what I eat. Airborn allergens bring on watery eyes, runny noise, stuffy head and sneezing. Spring and fall are hard to handle without meds... -
ARCHIVED Well Water Making Me Sick
Austin Guy replied to Austin Guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lots of good thoughts in here. The bacteria thing might be good to check out. -
My house uses water from a well. It is high in sulfates, iron, calcium, magnesium and various other components of hard water. Drinking the water has always caused bloating, gas and diarrhea. Filtering the water helps a lot and drinking distilled water is wonderful. Any idea as to what in the water is causing my problems and might a water softening system...

ARCHIVED Scientific American Article On Celiac
Austin Guy replied to taysic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, what an interesting and informative article. Thanks for sharing. -
As a person with HR experience, a potential employer cannot discriminate against anyone with a condition. It is absolutely fine to bring up your Celiac if you are comfortable with that. Call the restaurant in advance and ask about gluten free meals. Then order one at lunch and have a good interview.

I just realized that I have been having migraines for a couple of years. I never had one prior to that. This is also the time frame that my more obvious Celiac symptoms started to show. I just didn't recognize them until recently. I went gluten free only 16 days ago and generally feel better than I have in many years, but I've had 2 migraines since being...

Thanks for all responses. It is amazing what I am learning in here. GI doc ordered Celiac blood tests yesterday and says I am a good candidate based on symptoms. Looks like I'll be in here a lot.

About 3 years ago I was at a park where we went to the edge of a cliff to look over at rock climbers. I immediately felt like I was going to fall down. I felt like my head was going to spin and I was going to lose my balance. I have had an intense fear of heights since. As a younger person I used to skydive, climb trees, boulders, etc. I went gluten...

ARCHIVED My School Doesn't Understand
Austin Guy replied to CourtneyLee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
504 will give special accomodations. A doctor's explanation of what is going on is very necessary. A visit to the counselor would also be wise. -
I am not diagnosed yet as gluten intolerant, but I see a GI specialist Monday and expect to be. I went gluten free 10 days ago and by the time 6:00 PM rolls around I am really tired. I was that way prior to going gluten free, but my energy level during the day now is much better. Might my body just be trying to recover after what was probably years...
