  1. Do not worry she will grow at her own rate. Kids grow in spurts & when she goes thru one you will swear you could see her growing right b4 ur eyes. Altho my DD was quite a bit older than ur baby (age13) when we discovered the celiac. She hadn't grown in like 1 1/2 yrs As soon as she went gluten-free,(beg of jun) she grew almost 3 inches over the summer...
  2. This is what I wrote to the station: Dear Ms. Owen:I feel this report seriously misrepresented what celiac disease can do to the body. There are so many more symptoms than "tummy trouble" & in many cases there is no tummy trouble at all. The list of symptoms for celiac is mind boggling: fatigue, fibromyalgia, IBS, migraines, short stature, malnutrition...
  3. Open Original Shared Link Here is what I feel is a half ass attempt in describing celiac as it is seriously lacking in important facts & even misrepresents celiac. They said symptoms are painful stomach. We all know it is so much more than that & not all ppl have gastro symptoms. The more I think about it I am actually pissed & will...
  4. If you can have milkshakes make one daily or at least 4/5 dys a week. gluten-free baked goods have a lot of calories. Make a gluten-free cake/brownies/cookies etc. Rice cakes are very low calorie--can you eat an udi's gluten-free bagel w p butter/jelly instead? Ae you taking vitamins of any kind? You can get fatigued from inadequate vitamin /nutrient...
  5. so did you go to NY or not?
  6. Some flavors of Bluebells contain wheat some do not. So it depends on what flavor you had. It clearly says on the ingredient list if it contains wheat such as Dutch Chocolate which was my DD's absolute favorite. We eat Breyer's Haagen Daz, publix brand--all plain chocolate or with chocolate chips. Ice cream in and of itself is gluten free but it depends...
  7. I'm so happy for you (& everyone else who has improved!) I have a friend with a host of problems: fibromyalgia, herniated/bulging discs, scoliosis, gastro problems, etc. She has to take 50,000 units of Vit D daily! She was blood tested for celiac but it was negative. However I still begged her to go gluten-free & she finally did. Within 2 weeks...
  8. There are many differing reports/studies out there. Some ppl swear a gluten-free diet greatly improved the symptoms of autism/asperger's while others found no difference at all. However there are studies that show there is a positive correlation btwn celiac & asd/as. But then again everyone is different. So-o-o the only thing to do is to have the afflicted...
  9. A gluten free diet is the only way to treat celiac. University of Chicago does research on celiac so he can look them up.
  10. Frankly I would question the 8 teeth extraction. Have you gotten a 2nd even 3rd opinion? Why do they have to cut her gums to get ungrown tooth out? It sounds crazy to me. Sometimes letting nature take its course works out better. I took my DD to a highly recommended orthodontist who wanted to slap braces on her teeth @ age 10 for a cross bite on both...
  11. flintstones have gluten--avoid!
  12. rice pasta is good with the kraft mac & cheese cheese powder. Give the pasta in the box to someone else. Or maybe you & mom can make mac & cheese yourselves. Many gluten-free foods have more calories than regular food like waffles. With Pamela's mix you can make dozens of things. My son eats waffles with peanut butter--high calorie good...
  13. It sounds ridiculous to me! How can microbiomes pass thru to the baby thru the birth canal when mothers microbiomes are in her small intestine? Even if if were in her birth canal (which it couldn't as they are INTESTINAL enzymes) how would it get into baby's intestines? This article is for the trash IMHO.
  14. for ppl in FL (maybe GA) Publix has them
  15. My DD didn't show any signs till she was 11/12 & stopped growing. She ate wheat all her life prior. As for my 17 yo DS I tested him b/c of his sister & he has high antibodies too. (he also has a mild case of autism which there is a big debate whether celiac & autism are correlated) so as far I know he was symptomless. Anyway, I read/heard that...
  16. Have you ever heard if "sensory defensiveness"? Many kids suffer from it but is is easily overlooked. Basically the child is extra sensitive to certain textures, clothing, etc. They know something is bothering them but can't find the words, and act out instead. It could be the tag on their shirt or underwear, or touching things like playdough, or they...
  17. Your son's behavior is multi- faceted & therefore will need a multi-faceted approach. 1st--you & DH must be on same pg with everything. Make a few gluten-free meals--meats, veggies, rice/rice noodles (cheapest @ asian stores). potatoes w/o telling him. Stir fry is easy to make. Then in a week tell him about the meals you made that were gluten...
  18. there are some slow release iron pills on the market. That might help . Red meat has iron. If he eats red meat offer it to him more often. Also flintstones vitamins contain gluten. Lil Critters are gluten-free as well as disney & some others. I had to take DD off Flintstones
  19. schar has a funny after taste
  20. Did you have her liver chked? Pale stools can be a sign that the liver isn't putting out enough bile. read this Open Original Shared Link
  21. I believe it has to do with your weight, and how deficient you are. My DD who weighs 78 lbs takes 1000 a dy whereas my DS takes 2000 and he weighs 118 lbs. DD is/was moderately deficient & DD borderline. They both need a recheck in Dec. My best friend who has severe bone issues has to take 50,000 pr day. She is 49 yo and has the bones of an 80 yo. ...
  22. UPDATE: DD is still growing but seems to slowed down a bit. She is now 4'9 3/4 and is 78 lbs. That's almost 3 in this yr! Due to school she isn't sleeping as much. I am so proud of her! She is so vigilent in avoiding gluten, even when I falter a little. (we went to Hooters & I didn't ask if fries were gluten-free) She totally called me out on it...
  23. what's RLQ? @saintmaybe--a butterfly shaped rash across the face is an indicator of lupus not chest & torso
  24. @timmcneal: You say no gluten free foods no exceptions--what state are you in? Do you think other states would accommodate a celiac prisoner? What about minimal security country club type prisons? Jail is less than 1 yr & prison is 1 yr or more am I right? What if a prisoner had a peanut allergy would he be given a peanut butter sandwich?
