  1. My son is having diarhea and vomiting right now too. Not vomiting that many times, but he has no fever. Vomiting was never one of his symptoms before, but I am wondering if maybe now since he has been off gluten for six weeks if it has become one. I don't know how he got gluten. I did find a piece of catfood in his mouth. We are in an apartment for six weeks...
  2. My son has done SO much better on a gluten free diet. He improved dramatically and still is. He has been gluten free for 5 weeks, but 2 weeks ago he had some gluten. Anyway, I am curious if any of your kids had diarhea sometimes out of the blue once on the diet. He will have completely normal bowel movements and then bam, out of nowhere he will seem to not...
  3. Hi Tamara I didn't see your post before. Yeah, I have had three kids in the past six years too. I am SO tired of doctors myself. I don't even have a doctor other then my OB/GYN. He is great, but I don't think he would test for celiac disease. I do need to be tested though. I have been miserable all the time. I don't gain weight either, plus was anemic pregnant...
  4. We have done blood tests. I am not sure at this point if they did all of them, but they never mentioned that it was celiac. The endocrinologist said to me one day, "well at least you know it isn't celiac"! Well, after a couple of months of him being so sick and me researching on the computer, I find out that he has a ton of symptoms of celiac. So I just put...
  5. My son had gluten for one day. We are testing him with a gluten free diet. He had been on the diet for three weeks and I thought, well lets just give him some and see what his reaction is. Yes, dumb I know! Anyway, at first for about 12 hours, there was no reaction. Then suddenly he quit eating, became very irritable, diarrhea started. This reaction lasted...
  6. I don't know what you have tried feeding your son, but I know that dairy doesn't agree with Celiac kids. I know they say he doesn't have it, but I guess I was thinking that if you didn't give him any dairy for a few weeks. You said he won't eat at all, but I know at first when my son was sick and on a diet that contained any gluten, he didn't eat well at...
  7. It sounds like you are on the right track. My son has been doing the same thing. He has been gluten free for a month now. Other then a 24 hour period when I gave him gluten and he was sick for four days afterwards. I know for sure he can't tolerate gluten and he hasn't been given the diagnoses. HIs pedi. is pretty certain from his symptoms that that is what...
  8. My baby was too sick on gluten to wait for his tests too. We are out of town right now. Anyway, I couldn't handle him being so sick on gluten. If I were you I would make a big deal about how sick your son is to the office and see if they can fit him in. Also, it seems like there should be at least 2 pediatric GI's in the group that your doctor is in. SOmeone...
  9. Did they do all the blood tests for celiac? How did they come out? My husband is a physician and is at the National Institute of Health in MD. Anyway, he just heard in a lecture that the most difinitive test for celiac disease was the new blood tests and not the biopsy. My son hasn't been diagnosed officially, but we have been doing the diet for over three...
  10. As far as Halloween goes, I always have my kids candy "disappear" anyway. THey forget in a couple of days. I would just be discreat about it and she probably won't notice. You choose which one's she can have. I don't think they need all the candy they get anyway. I am worrying about what to do when we go to someone's house for dinner or something. MOre...
  11. I know that the biopsy probably won't be accurate with him on the diet, but he was SO sick on gluten that I was afraid of dehydration, etc. I called my pediatrician and told him I had him on the diet and he said to keep him on the diet, that he probably has the celiac disease. I am out of town for six weeks and had no way of testing him. He has had the blood...
  12. We too are new to this diet. We haven't been officially diagnosed. Mainly because we are out of town for six weeks, but he had failure to thrive, weight below the chart, diarrhea, irritability, wouldn't eat hardly anything, etc. Anyway, I finally realized that he had all the symptoms and he was so sick i put him on the diet. He is 98% better in just 10 days...
  13. What type of formula is the baby on? Alot of babies are allergic to dairy based formula and it sounds like he has those symptoms, but also if they are allergic to dairy they can be to Soy also. There is a formula that is elemental, that could help maybe. My baby has been on a gluten free diet for a week only and had all the symptoms of Celiac. HE wasn't...
  14. We are currently going through the same thing sort of with my 13 month old. He is underweight, but also has diarrhea. I have changed his diet, but he is scheduled for the biopsy in June. I am going through the same thing about whether to do the test. It sounds like your little guy is small at 25 lbs. Is he on the chart? Everyone here says the test isn't so...
  15. So was your son tested with a biopsy? I am putting him on a gluten free diet. It has only been two days so far. He has eaten better today though and only went to the bathroom twice, which is good for him. I was just looking up all the ingredients to avoid. Quite overwhelming, but definitely SO worth it to have him not be so miserable all the time. It has...
  16. I posted somewhere else, but thought maybe I should start a new topic. I have a 13 month old that is failure to thrive, diarrhea that is now pretty much all the time, sore bottom, not eating well now either. He also has the probable diagnosis of Neurofibromatosis1, which is a genetic disease. SOme blood test they did on him for celiac disease came back negative...
  17. Isn't there just a blood test that could confirm that he has celiac disease without doing the biopsy. I am currently away from his doctors for six weeks and so his biopsy isn't scheduled until June 6th. He is so bad with diarrhea and looking skinny, not eating that I am taking gluten out of his diet. I know I probably should wait, but he is so miserable and...
  18. My baby is 13 months old and also is having diarrhea and falling off the charts as his main symptoms. He used to like to eat, but now he doesn't like it. He also has some issues with dairy. He had even worse diarrhea with it. I was breastfeeding and they told me to wean him and then when I put him on dairy his diarrhea was horrible. It is still bad and he...
