  1. He should be tested just because he has a blood relative with it. My ped tested my oldest son just because he is only in the 10th percentile for height and weight and has a blood relative with it. HIs brother and his mom. Anyway, I would insist and even show him information about it. The only thing is though, is that I doubt his bloodwork would come back...
  2. I have been vegetarian my whole life, but have eaten dairy products. Anyway, I feel so much better now that I am gluten free, but do miss alot of foods. Thanks for all the recipes. THey look great and I am planning to try them. I am having to learn how to cook without the meat substitutes we used before, because they all have gluten. We used alot of Campbell...
  3. Not all research articles are accurate, but I disagree with one blood test being 100% accurate for diagnoses. Especially in children under 2 years old. My son has it and his ttg was normal. He only had one blood level elevated and it was least sensitive for celiac. I think there is alot they don't know yet, so I thought the article was interesting. Monica
  4. Where do you get CHebe bread? Yes, donuts and pizza are yummy by Kinnikinnick! Monica
  5. Yeah, i am thinking the dairy is going to go for awhile. I just don't know what to look for when he gets gluten. He has been fussier. I dont' know when he got it and I don't know how much worse his reaction would be then before when he ate gluten all the time. I also don't know how long it lasts. He never vomited from it before he was diagnosed, but now this...
  6. My big stress is having to follow my 3 and 6 year olds around with their gluten foods. THey are dropping bread crumbs on our deck outside, he got into some Cheerios that had been thrown out in the garage to go to the trash. This past weekend at my son's sixth birthday party. He almost made it to the top of our playset where all the other kids had left their...

    ARCHIVED Miserable

There are alot of great posts here. I have a few more suggestions. I have been very depressed before too over my children's health. To the point of almost taking antidepressants, but not doing it. I even have them sitting around. Anyway, I will share a few things that helped. I have low blood pressure too and that is low what you mentioned. Make sure you...
  8. Yeah, I know in my mind that I have it. The one symptom that has gone away is the anxiety I always had. I just felt different. I couldn't concentrate as well, was more irritable and then of course the GI symptoms are a huge relief. I guess I just wish that it had been a definite answer. Most people don't have a clue about celiac disease and so they think...
  9. Ok, here is my problem. I have a son that was just diagnosed with celiac disease. He is 15 months. Then I have had all sorts of symptoms of celiac disease and was out of town and started on the gluten-free diet. I felt SO much better in just a week. I am sure some things were still improving. Anyway, I had been on the diet for basically 3-4 weeks, cheated...
  10. Fritos don't agree with me either, but I think it is the grease factor. I can eat a few.
  11. Yeah, it is funny how some people would rather be miserable then find out something is wrong with them. My mom has SO many symptoms and I am convinced she has it too, but she is stubborn as a mule! She told me if my tests came back positive then she would get tested and now that they have, well we will see if she goes. I feel so much better, I would rather...
  12. Vincent, SOrry if I confused you. My son that got diagnosed it actually only 15 months old. My other son is 6 and his main symptom is short stature, but he had GI symptoms for a year and then they seemed to go away. SO I am having him tested too. Monica
  13. I am just wondering how many mom's or dad's found out after their kids were diagnosed? I have had digestive issues for years. Anemia on and off etc. Anyway, my blood work came back borderline, but I had been gluten-free for a month when I got tested, so I know I have it. I guess he is wanting to do a biopsy, but I don't know if I want to go through that....
  14. My son is newly diagnosed too and I was cutting out dairy, but thought maybe he was doing ok with it, but now I am back to thinking he isn't. Now I am going to have to come up with some more new foods that are dairy free. He already is on a soy formula and I add the very vanilla to it. THe Whole SOY brand yogurt is good I think. Better then the silk brand...
  15. I have to agree with Kaiti. It sounds like you have celiac if the biopsy was positive. The blood tests were probably negative because you weren't eating wheat at the time maybe, but it is still doing damage. If I were you I would maybe even contact the place you were first diagnosed to see what your medical history says and what tests were done. Then I would...

    ARCHIVED What Do You Think?

Hi Rhonda, I was gluten free for two weeks when I had the celiac panel done. My son has celiac and I was miserable when we found out he had it, so I decided to try eating gluten-free. I started feeling SO much better in just a week. No more bloating, no more gas, no more abdominal pain, nausea and fatigue got better, etc. Anyway, I haven't gotten my blood...
  17. I would think the ice cream and milk would give her the most problems. I think that I would try and go dairy free for ten days and then see if she may be able to tolerate yogurt or some cheese. You said she was eating alot and alot of people without celiac can't tolerate alot of dairy. I know it is hard. We don't eat gluten or meat and I try and give him...
  18. I don't think the rest of the family would mind as long as I am cooking good food. WHich alot of the gluten-free food is very good. If we ate meat it would make it easier on them, but we have always eaten meat substitutes made from soy and gluten! Not that they are probably that healthy(some have dyes in them). Thanks for the suggestions though. It is great...
  19. Peanut butter seems to give my 15 month a tummy ache too. I don't understand it. He has been on the gluten-free diet for about six weeks and everytime he gets PB he cries and fusses and eats cruddy the rest of the day. I actually was looking to see if I was giving him gluten by accident, but it seems like the PB. MOnica
  20. My baby is 15 months old and just diagnosed six weeks ago. I am still struggling with finding out what has gluten, etc. Right now my older kids are still eating foods with gluten in them, but it is frustrating when I am not sure what is going on with him some days. He was doing awesome for two weeks and then all the sudden he got gluten and he will have a...
  21. Where do you live and what doctor are you seeing? Doctors take the diagnosis of Celiac very seriously. It is a diet for life and so I think that is why they like to do the biopsy, but I have to agree that in a child there may be no damage and if he has positive blood work at all, he probably has it. I think the endoscope is up to you. Personally a positive...
  22. JUst thought I would share that my son's blood tests were also inconclusive. He had them done at 13 months. Anyway, no one told me he could have celiac with his blood tests being negative. One day I was on the computer and reading about celiac disease and I just thought it sounded so much like him that I put him on the diet. My son was failure to thrive ...
  23. Just thought i would share that my son had diarrhea and vomiting for a week. It was a stomach virus, probably Rotavirus and kids get it. THe diarhea can last over two weeks. It did with my middle child. Anyway, I too was freaking out a few weeks ago, wondering what I had given him or what was going on. Thinking he had a new allergy or something. I also have...
  24. My son that was about 13 months at the time he had his celiac panel was all negative too, but he has been on the diet for six weeks now and he is a different child. Normal poop now, happy baby, growing now and thriving in every way. So I have to agree that the tests in children just aren't accurate. My child wouldn't hardly eat before and now he is eating...
  25. I like the Tinkyada pasta too, but I made a pasta salad with it this weekend. The pasta was great, but we went camping and I had it in a cooler and then when I went to eat it after being cold it had hardened again. Has else had this happen? Strange. I cooked it quite a bit too, because i was cooking for my celiac toddler. Anyway, I had to throw it out. Otherwise...
