  1. I couldn't find Foster Farms Sour Cream on any of my gluten-free lists, but that does not mean it is a problem. You would probably have to call the company, if you can't get through on their website. The number should be on the package. Could you be having a problem with dairy, in general. It can cause some pretty bad reactions to people who are intolerant...
  2. There are liquid forms of calcium. I have gotten Kirkman liquid calcium/magnesium supplement before (it is gluten-free/cf) , but it tastes pretty wierd. Some sort of tropical fruit punch flavor, but it tastes like nasty medicine. Then we tried to find another source, but some of the liquid minerals are very salty tasting. I found a powdered calcium supplement...
  3. According to my gluten-free/CF diet shopping guide these are safe for gluten & dairy free diets: Fleischmann's:Soft Margarine in a tub, Soft Light Sticks, Unsalted in a tub, Unsalted stick Earth Balance Natural Buttery Spread Smart Balance Smart Beat Shedd's Willow Run Spread (in sticks and tubs) Hain Safflower Oil Margarine Willow...
  4. Bugs Bunny Chewables are supposed to be gluten-free. My kids use the Lil' Critters Gummy Bear Vitamins. They say on the package that they are gluten free. God bless, Mariann
  5. Burdee, My family is also off dairy and the margarine we use is Nucoa. It comes in a tub and in cubes and it says on the package that it "contains no milk or whey". We haven't had any problems with it. There are very few margarines out there that are truely dairy free. Most contain Casein, Lactose or Whey. God bless, Mariann

    ARCHIVED Obesity

I just wanted to tell all of you that I am finally losing weight. For the first few months it was just the initial 5 lb loss that I always get when I start the gluten-free diet. After theat nothing for months. My scale broke and I didn't replace it right away. I got a new one last week and I was so happy to see that I had dropped another 5 lbs and everyday...
  7. I would hesitate using the pill all the time and eating whatever I wanted, but I would certainly try it for eating out. That is the only time I get contaminated, since our house is gluten-free. But it seems like almost everytime I eat at someone elses house or a restaurant I get sick from contamination. If the pill could help me from getting so sick it...
  8. I was just thinking about this earlier today. I noticed that when I was eating gluten that my diarrhea was much worse during that time of the month. I know that now I try to be careful not to get any accidental gluten during my period, since the reaction will be much worse. It has something to do with all the hormones, but I'm not sure how. God bless...
  9. For your future refference, since you won't always get a reply as quickly as you need to when your baby is sick: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-15104095335.22 Open Original Shared Link God bless, Mariann
  10. I have two gluten-free medications lists that I use for referrence. Both of them list Children's Advil Suspension and Children's Motrin Suspension as being safe. I hope your baby is feeling better soon. God bless, Mariann
  11. 100% pure butter should be fine, if you can have dairy. Many margarines are okay, too. Here are a few of the name brands that are safe, but always read the labels anyhow. Blue Bonnet Brummel & Brown spread Canoleo 100% canola margarine Corman Light! Butter Earth Balance natural buttery spread Fleischman's Hain Margarine: Soft safflower, safflower...
  12. A lot of the symptoms of Celiac are caused by the nutritional deficiencies. The ridges may be caused by a certain vitamin or mineral deficiency and while one person may be deficient before starting the diet from the malabsorbtion in their intestines, another person may become deficient in certain vitamins/minerals AFTER starting the diet because they are...
  13. I forgot to mention that YES you could be having a problem with Soy. I avoid soy because I am allergic to it, it makes me very itchy all over my body, but it is possible to be intolerant of any food. Soy is a common one to cause problems.
  14. So you are not gluten-free right now, right? I think that is what you are saying. I assume this is for testing purposes? Imodium can mask some of the symptoms. A lot of what you are describing could be caused by the diarrhea and the subsequent malnutrition. If you do not have the diarrhea, then that may be why the other symptoms are not so obvious...
  15. Rice milk tastes too bland for my liking and the vanilla Almond Breeze was nasty, but I drink the regular Almond Breeze (Blue Diamond) and use it in my cereal. The chocolate flavored Almond Breeze tastes very close to regular chocolate milk, my kids love it and so do I. But then I haven't had regular milk in so long I can't really remember what it tastes...
  16. That's what I figured. All the cheese substitutes seem to contain dairy in some form. I've seen the rice cheese, and soy cheese, but never the almond cheese. Isn't there a way to make a 100% dairy free alternative that tastes decent!! God bless, Mariann
  17. Carol, They try to ship the same day, the next day if you place the order at night, but it still takes about a week to get your order. I placed my order on the 1st and it is expected to get to me on the 9th. So you probably don't have time to get the shipment sent to your home, but you could have it sent to the address in Oregon where you will be visiting...
  18. Where did you find the almond cheese? I would love to try some. It doesn't contain any casein, whey, or lactose, does it? I can't help you out with a recipe, but I would love some info on the cheese. What is the brand name, and where did you buy it? Thank you. God bless, Mariann
  19. Enterolab is a private laboratory that specializes in a stool test for gluten sensitivity as well as sensitivities to milk, eggs, yeast. They also do a gene test for the main genes that cause Celiac Disease and some other genes that cause gluten intolerance. Since you were diagnosed using the standard method of blood test and biopsy, you would not need...
  20. My GI doctor after concluding that all my test were normal, except my Enterolab test which she dismissed, said I had IBS and she would see me in a year! I was still sick at that point, but was starting the gluten-free diet. I was a little annoyed, since I had wanted some tests to check for nutritional deficiencies, but figured that I could handle it on...
  21. I've tried some of their mixes. This is where I get the Really Great Foods Chocolate Cake mix that I've raved about before. It is awesome! I also get their Gluten Solutions label Chocolate Mint Protein bars. They are great and we always take some of these with us when we leave the house, so we have something easy to eat if we can't find something safe...
  22. I also noticed that they didn't say whether the people in the study experienced any symptoms, only that they didn't appear to have intestinal damage. I don't care how much gluten they say might be safe, I experience symptoms with even the tiniest amount, so that would be enough for me to say no to any product that might contain "acceptable" trace amounts...
  23. You would probably need to hook up with one of the Universities that has a Celiac Disease Research Center. I know that University of Maryland and the University of Chicago are two that do major research in Celiac Disease. Johns Hopkins and Columbia University also do alot of research on celiac disease. I'm sure there are others I don't know about. But...
  24. I read it and I have to say that it makes me very uncomfortable to know that they are saying ANY amount of gluten is "acceptable". It can sometimes take years for the damage to show up on a biopsy. They did not say how long these study participants were consuming the small amounts of gluten and so it is understandable that they would not necessarily show...
  25. Actually you can get DH on your hands. I had it on my palms very badly and it was extremely painful. I think because there are so many nerve endings on the hand that it was more painful, and it was extremely itchy as well. I also had it between my fingers and in places running up my arms and on my scalp and neck. I only had a few on my back and none...
