  1. French's mustard is gluten-free, and can be found just about anywhere. God bless, Mariann
  2. In my opinion, a positive is a positive. It doesn't matter if it is a higher or lower reading, some people just produce more antibodies than others and it has no bearings on how bad the symptoms are. There are people out there with outrageously high antibodies and NO symptoms, and other who have horrible symptoms and barely register any antibodies at all...
  3. You do NOT need to go back on gluten before having hte Enterolab tests done. God bless, Mariann
  4. Hi Alexolua, Well, there is alot of questions in your post, but I'll try to address a few of them. First the milk issue. You still might be senstitive to milk, even if your reaction takes a bit longer than an hour. But regardless, you can speed up your gluten recovery time by eliminating all dairy anyhow. So trying gluten and casein free for a while...
  5. His doctor probably is not very experienced in this area, most aren't. Even in the GI field. If your husband has been gluten free for a month, it might take longer than a month back on gluten to show damage in his intestines. The lining of the intestines heals rather quickly for most people, even though the symptoms may last longer, since most are...
  6. Don't worry about venting, we all need to periodically. I'm sorry to hear you are going through a rough time. I was feeling great for a while, and then we had a bunch of out of town trips and it seems like I am always getting sick. Everytime I get into some gluten accidently it puts me down for a week or more! The fatigue is what really does me in....
  7. For the most part my symptoms were gone within two months, now if I could just keep from getting contaminated occasionally, I would be much better all the time. It just seems like I keep getting into gluten everytime I leave town. I can only pack so much food. When we go out of town, we have to eat out. That is usually when I get sick... Mariann
  8. Hi Jessica, Welcome to the board. You might not find anyone on this board who has tested negative to the Enterolab tests, since if they are negative they wouldn't need a celiac support group. But I have seen a few people who had relatives who tested negative. Can't remember any by name, but maybe they will see this and post. Enterolab tends...
  9. Hi sperlyn, You do have Celiac, it is just in the early stages. Here it is also called gluten intolerance, and sometimes gluten sensitive enteropathy. It just means that gluten is causing damage in your intestines. Some doctors won't call it Celiac, yet. Regardless, it still requires lifelong adherence to the gluten free diet. Since you had been gluten...
  10. Balsamic Vinegar should be fine, but thank you Tiffany, for the heads up! I had to comment on the San-J soy sauce. ONLY the wheat free Tamari types of San-J are gluten free. They list "wheat-free" on the label. Make sure you check. And if you have a choice of San-J or La Choy, San-J has a much better flavor. God bless, Mariann
  11. I went back on gluten for two months for the biopsy, and it was negative. I was hoping it would be enough time, but according to Dr. Peter Green (Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center) it takes 3-6 months or longer to be really accurate. And I've read in Dangerous Grains by James Braly and Ron Hoggan that it can take up to 5 years to cause enough severe...
  12. It is gluten-free and it tastes wonderful! I've got all my friends using it now, since they have been eating it at my BBQ's and so now I know their BBQ's are safe for us! Have fun using it this weekend! God bless, Mariann
  13. My kids and I had gene testing done, but we did cheek swabs, not blood. DQ2 and DQ8 are the two main genes related to Celiac Disease. Having the genes does not mean you will get the disease, but you do have the chance of getting it. Also if you have the genes and have symptoms then you most likely have an active case of the disease. Also you might not...
  14. Yes, you can do the testing at Enterolab while you are gluten-free. They recommend you stay on whatever diet you are currently on. They do NOT want you to go back on gluten for testing. You can e-mail Dr. Fine and ask him which test(s) he would recommend, since you have been gluten-free for three months, and on the questionaire that you fill out when you...
  15. For those of you who will be traveling to San Diego and surrounding areas, there is a great website you should check out. They list restaurants, grocery stores, and other information about being gluten free in San Diego! Open Original Shared Link God bless, Mariann
  16. Hi Burdee, I am allergic to soy. I react with severe itching all over my body when I have certain forms of soy. For instance, I can have soybean oil and soy lecithin without problems, but soy sauce makes me react the worst. I can have small amounts of soy flour, but anything more than a few gluten-free pretzels (with soy flour) and I start to react...
  17. Oops... for some reason it posted twice, so I deleted the second message content, but can't remove it completely. Sorry...
  18. Hang in there Suzanne. I know how you feel. My family is oblivious to wanting to get testing, even when they have obvious (at least to me!) symptoms. I have 4 brothers and 2 sisters and only my older sister tried to get tested, but her doctor keeps giving her the run around and ordering hte wrong tests. Her 14 year old son has seriously stunted growth...
  19. I think it was me who posted that list. Open Original Shared Link Burdee, go back to the gfcfdiet website (or use the link above) and order the GFCFDIET Shopping Guide. You will still have to read labels, but it will point you in the right direction and it does also list the ingredients that are "off limits". The guide was put together to help parents...
  20. I get this, too, and it took me a long time to figure out what it was. It is most likely an food allergy, and not related necessarily to celiac disease. For me it was Soy. I found out when I was first trying to get testing for gluten intolerance, and my doctors wanted to check for food allergies. The only thing that showed positive was soy. So I started...
  21. Dear girlinpain, My opinion is that you should go ahead with the Endoscopic procedure (it isn't usually that bad, a colonoscopy is worse!) and make sure the doctor takes biopsies. If you showed malabsorbtion in the Enterolab tests, then you will probably still show damage in your intestines. An offical diagnosis is usually good to have. Especially...
  22. I like the story, I've read it before somewhere when I was looking into what was wrong with my son (other than gluten intolerance, because he has many health issues), and I find it inspiring. But putting it into perspective, we have it easier than parents of children who are permanently disabled (either mentally, emotionally or physically), because...
  23. I have 3 kids ages 5-9, and we never hesitate to accept invitations to parties. I always make sure I bring gluten-free cake or cupcakes, since there will always be cake they can't have. If it is my close friends party, they often try to cook foods we can eat (but I still bring something in case they get it wrong). I can't expect everyone to know...
  24. I can see your point. Maybe it is because those of us who have just recently been diagnosed, still remember how sick we were. You are fortunate to had been diagnosed early in your life. Some of us had to suffer for 30+ years first. If it was quaranteed that we would not get sick again, then maybe I would consider taking it on a regular basis. I...
  25. I went to the Foster Farms Website, and it was a bit confusing. I did eventually find the Customer Service information though. for anyone who wants to get a hold of them and find out the gluten-free status of their products this info might be helpful. Foster Farms Dairy cs@fosterdairyfarms.com Customer Hotline 1-800-588-2334 Consumer Services...
