ARCHIVED Is There Only One Lab For The Stool Test?
gf4life replied to the2ofus's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Tiffany, I was just curious, but did Dr. Fine actually say that he refused to have his work peer-reviewed? I researched the tests and Dr. Fine quite a bit before I would trust Enterolab and I never came acrossed any information about that. I know that many doctors have made comments against Dr. Fine, but my understanding is that they don't want... -
What Tiffany said is true. Your husband should NOT go on the gluten-free diet until AFTER his testing is finished. Let him finish the products that are in the house and buy in very small amounts so that when his testing is over then there is not a whole lot of food to throw out (or give away). As for you also eating gluten-free. No it will not hurt...

Hormones have a major effect on us women. If you continue to have this problem you may want to consult with a doctor about running some tests on your hormone levels. Other than that, just make sure you are not getting contaminated, and take your vitamins, and maybe try to get some extra sleep if possible. Some days you might need a little bit more sleep...

ARCHIVED :( Doubtful Now...
gf4life replied to Aightball's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Kel, The endoscopy is the medical fields choice of test for diagnosing Celiac, but it is not fool proof. I also had a negative biopsy. I am not even going to have my kids biopsied at all. They all tested inconclusive on the bloodtests (positive IgG, negative on tall the IgA tests). I had a lot of similar symptoms to you and more, yet I tested negative... -
ARCHIVED What Is It With Me
gf4life replied to mario's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Mario, You need to make sure that you are getting enough protein. If you eat protein at every meal, it will slow down your digestion and you won't feel so hungry all the time. If you are mainly eating light foods like corn cakes and jam, they will be digested very quickly leaving you hungry very soon after eating one. Basically they are a snack not... -
Have you seen a dermatologist for the "acne". It may not be acne, it may be dermatisit herpetiformis (or DH for short). The rash form of celiac disease. It can be biopsied very easily by a dermatologist, and this is a much easier diagnosis of celiac disease than the GI can give you. The treatment is the same. A 100% gluten free diet for life. They may...

ARCHIVED How To Deal With Disbelieving Family
gf4life replied to goodwitch's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Isn't that the truth. I was at the library the other day and was going through the books they had for sale. One lady was looking at an Atkin's diet book, and they all started talking about bread, pasta, cakes and such. One guys said, "I'd die if I had to give up my bread and cakes." Now I'm sitting there thinking to myself I could die if I don't give... -
ARCHIVED Fruit Snacks
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got a response from Kellogg's. Thank you for contacting Kellogg Company regarding our Kellogg's® Disney Fruit Snacks product line. We appreciate your time in contacting us. At Kellogg Company, we understand and share the concerns expressed by consumers who are affected by food allergies. Kellogg has been one of the leaders in the food industry ... -

ARCHIVED Vitamins
gf4life replied to chawk310's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was so happy to find out that my children's favorite brand of vitamins is in fact gluten free and dairy free! They are the L'il Critters Gummy Vites. They look like gummy bears, but are a multi-vitamin with minerals. I can get them at costco for around $10 for 200 vitamins. My kids love em, and are fine just eating 1-2 a day (recommended dose is up... -
Hi everyone, I have contacted General Mills, Kellogg's, and Kraft/Nabisco about their fruit snacks. My kids don't want to have to give them up, and I know that General Mills Fruit Roll Ups are gluten and casein free. But does any one know about the others? Those are the brands that my kids eat regularly and that is the one treat they are allowed daily...

Have you considered that you may also have another food intolerance (like lactose intolerance or casein intolerance, which are very common in gluten intolerance)? I am also casein intolerance and I get a very similar reaction to gluten. Infact my reaction to gluten is not as bad, bloating and gas-wise, since I have been dairy-free since November. Of course...

MOST of us have very similar experiences to your own. It is the reason so many of us are self-diagnosed, or Enterolab diagnosed. The medical field as we know it is not prepared to deal with so many gluten intolerant individuals, bu the fact remains that we are here! I don't know what to suggest to you. It is your choice to be gluten-free or not, and it...

Zippyten, Great ideas! I just picked up a new handheld blender at RiteAid for $14. I felt it was safer to use, since my husband uses our regular blender for his non-gluten-free foods all the time. I can make smoothies and soups and stuff. My daughter is just starting the gluten-free/cf diet and will be having her tonsils out this summer. This...

ARCHIVED Tea?
gf4life replied to SteveW's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have conflicting information as to the gluten-free status of bigelow teas, so I just e-mailed the company. I'll share the info when they get back to me. The chamomile seems to be gluten-free. At least it is on the list of gluten-free teas I have, but that is why I am double checking. Some of their teas are also NOT dairy free, so I requested a list... -
ARCHIVED Achiness/fatigue
gf4life replied to tammy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Sarah, Do you know if the low basal temp. is the same for children? Could it be a thyroid problem in a child (age 7)? I chart my son's temp. daily at least 3 times and he is often below 97.8, and after a high fever episode (he has a recurrent fever syndrome of some sort) his temp drops down to 96 and sometimes as low as 94.9. Scares me a lot. The... -
ARCHIVED Increased Risk Of Breast Cancer
gf4life replied to wildones's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I hope the book helps. I get the response a lot from people when I mention gluten intolerance, "oh, I don't have a problem eating wheat." Well, I didn't have a problem eating it either, but I sure do have a problem digesting it! Most people who are gluten intolerant are not allergic to wheat, so the allergy testing your mom had won't show celiac or not... -
ARCHIVED GF Drinks
gf4life replied to mario's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Mario, I drink water all day long. Other thinks I drink are: green tea herbal tea (mostly mint) lemon water Blue Diamond Almond milk (chocolate and original) Arizona Iced Tea (all flavors are gluten-free) I also make my own fresh fruit and veggie juices in my Juiceman Juicer. I gave up sodas and black tea. I do drink coffee occasionally... -
ARCHIVED Diabeties And Celiac
gf4life replied to mom of 5 celiac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Karen, Diabetes is very common in Celiacs. Many people find that the diabetes was a symptoms of celiac disease, and it sometimes goes away after a while on the diet. Have you tried a high protein/low carb type of diet. It is supposed to be very good for helping to regulate the blood sugar level, as well as help you lose weight. It also fits well into... -
ARCHIVED Is It Safe To Eat Couscous?
gf4life replied to kati's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kati, have you really found a rice butter and rice cheese that don't have dairy or soy?!? I would love to know the brand. I am also not able to eat dairy or soy and have not found any brands that are dairy free and soy free. They all seem to have one or the other. I really miss cheese. I got very tired of rice milk, so I have gone over to Blue Diamond... -
ARCHIVED St. Patrick's Day
gf4life replied to tammy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is one of the most comprehensive food lists I've found, it lists a few brands of cooked corned beef. There are Shofar Kosher, Sinai Kosher, and Usinger's . I didn't find any listed that were not cooked. There might be more on the list, but you have to look through it in detail. I found those on page 28. Good luck with your St. Patty's day meal... -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed
gf4life replied to mamarara's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Dental enamel defects are also a symptom of Celiac and it is recommended by the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center that ALL children with dental enamel defects be screened for Celiac Disease. I am glad your doctor caught on quickly. There really is no reason to put him through the biopsy. His symptoms and the blood test are enough and the real... -
Could he possibly have meant that you were in the thrid stage of damage to the intestines? There are different levels of damage. This is how they look at the intestinal damage: 0- (no damage) healthy tissue 1- (no apparent damage) infiltration of immune cells called intraepithelial lymphocytes 2- (minor damage) lots of intraepithelial lymphocytes ...

ARCHIVED I'm Putting Aside The Rice Cakes
gf4life replied to mario's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kel, It may have been the ham. Not all are gluten-free. Or the nitrates if it has any(they are gluten-free, but bother some people). Or it could have been just too much fruit. For a while I was not able to digest fruit without the aid of digestive enzymes. Are you sure the juice was gluten-free? Amazingly enough not all juices are. I just can... -
ARCHIVED Increased Risk Of Breast Cancer
gf4life replied to wildones's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Lorraine, I can't help you out on exact info regarding breast cancer risk and celiac, but I can point you to an excellent book that talks quite a bit about how gluten increases your risk of cancer (any kind) and how. It is a book called Dangerous Grains by James Braly and Ron Hoggan. It is an excellent book on the benefits of a gluten free diet in relieving...
