  1. Hi Mario, I'm sorry you are still feeling bad. It can sometimes take up to a week or more to get rid of the effects of gluten after an accident. You should be better soon, just make sure you don't have another accident for a while. Happy Belated Birthday. Mine is today! I'm 32 years old. We went out to eat and I am hoping the meal was fine. I really...
  2. Hi Gillian, I was wondering if you have tried a chiropractor? I used to have terrible lower back pain. And it was getting to the point that I couldn't walk without being in horrible pain. It ended up that my pelvis was tilted, and I had a few pinched nerves. I saw the chiropractor for a few months, a couple times a week, and it got better. I very...
  3. I've had symptoms since I was younger than 4. I've been diagnosed with IBS for 17 years. In the past 32 years no one ever mentioned celiac disease in all of the hundreds of times I've been to the doctors and all the dozens of doctors I have seen. I brought it up to my doctors over two years ago and have come up empty. None of the earlier doctors would...
  4. Hi eppo, I have not tried this recipe before, so I can't say how it will turn out, but I found this in one of my gluten-free cookbooks. Sweet Pastry Crust Ingedients: 2 TBSP shortening 1/3 cup sugar 2 TBSP oil 1 egg yolk 1/2 tsp vanilla flavoring 1/3 cup potato starch 1/2 cup corn starch 1/2 tsp xanthan gum 1/4 tsp salt...
  5. Another thing about my hand rash, is that it was extremely painful on the palms. Almost like the nerves were being poked with needles. And anytime I get surprised or something bothers me a lot, I get that same prickly feeling in my hands. I think it is still effecting the nerves (I've only been gluten-free for going on 8 weeks), and I am hoping it will...
  6. How about my boys(ages 7 & 9) who don't eat cheese, ham, ground beef, eggs, veggies (except corn, steamed broccoli, and raw carrots), and have never touched pizza (ever) and have never eaten anything with cheese or any form of cheese-like food. No sauce on anything they eat, no butter either. The only dairy they eat is milk, yogurt and ice cream. I...
  7. I have always had sensitive skin and get rashes very easily. I have gotten blisters on my scalp for years and once I knew about celiac disease I wondered if they were DH. I never had any blisters on my body until after I went gluten-free for a while and then had to go back on gluten for the biopsy. Before going gluten-free my diet was normally pretty low...
  8. As far as I know Lecithin is an oily substance derived from Soy (and maybe other sources? I'm not sure, usually it is from Soy). Are you sure there wasn't something else you may have eaten that would cause your distress? Sometimes the reaction could be delayed and it may have been something earlier in the day or even the day before. I do hope you are feeling...
  9. flagbabyds, You want to also get some protein. If you get some plain whey protein or egg protein powder (make sure it is gluten-free) them you can mix it with the other pureed foods. You can also get the little jars of pureed meats from the babyfood section of the store. And there are some brands of instant mashed potatoes that are gluten-free...
  10. I'm sure it is the cinnamon. My daughter gets a red rash on her face when she eats cinnamon and it comes in contact with her skin, and this always happens when she chews cinnamon gum. The silly girl can't keep it in her mouth, instead she tries to blow bubbles, so she pulls it out and spreads it over her lips! This creates a huge red ring around her mouth...
  11. KathyB, I looked into the gluten-free Wraps you were talking about. I may get some for my kids, but why does everyone have to use soybean oil! I am allergic to soy, and it is so hard to find things that don't have soybean oil, soy lecethin, soy protein, etc... Are they good? My kids are sort of picky, but they love flour tortillas, and I would...
  12. Hi Heather, I've been to the Miss Roben's site before, and although they have a lot of good food choices, make sure you read every ingredient. I have found their allergen thing to not always be accurate. I choose gluten free, wheat free, dairy free, soy free and it gives me choices that are gluten, wheat and dairy free, but most of them have soy in...
  13. Hi Kevin, I am in a similar situation, only I'm the mom (who needs to eat gluten-free) and it is my husband and kids spreading gluten all over the kitchen, and everywhere else! I am trying to get us all gluten free. My kids tests(for gluten intolerance) are done, and I will get their results soon, but I am letting them finish off the gluten foods and...
  14. Hi Claudette, I got this list from Open Original Shared Link . I don't know if it is still current, but their is a group in Columbia, at least there was a few years ago. I would assume that means there are other Celiacs there in your area. I hope you are able to get together with some others. It sure can feel like we are alone in this sometimes....
  15. Here are my test results from last November. Antigliadin IgA 14 Units (Normal Range <10 Units*) Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA 13 Units (Normal Range <10 Units) Fecal Fat Score: 54 Units (Normal Range < 300 Units) anti-casein IgA antibody 18 Units (Normal Range <10 Units) and I also have HLA-DQ 2. I don...
  16. I got my results back within 3 weeks of sending the specimens back. And that was with the complete test kit (stool and gene). Usually you will recieve the kit within about 4 days of your order, a little longer if you ordered on a weekend. I just ordered my kids tests on a Friday, and recieved them the following Friday. You can only mail them back on...
  17. I did check the last time I was at the store(since I was concerned that someone posted they were eating Fruity Pebbles daily, possibly it was Hillary), and I couldn't find anything on the label that would indicate they were not gluten-free. But someone should contact the manufacturer, it might be an issue of cross-contamination that makes them possibly not...
  18. Cheese does not have gluten in it, until the manufacturer of the cheese product adds it in. Like cottage cheese and yogurt sometimes contain gluten in one of the added ingredients. Shredded cheese and cheese products often have gluten added either in them or as a powder to keep shredded cheese pieces from sticking to each other. Block cheeses are usually...
  19. Hi everyone, I found another gluten-free candy! They are called Goldenberg's Peanut Chews (Original) and they are really yummy. Nothing on the label would indicate any gluten or dairy(except the Kosher symbol said dairy!?), but I e-mailed just in case. And this was their response. I am very sensitive to dairy and I don't think there is much contamination...
  20. I checked out the article and the lab that you mentioned above. It sounds like they do the same genetic test that Laboratory at Bonfils does. Check out this link and it will take you directly to the page that tells you all about the Celiac Gene test. I hope this helps. Open Original Shared Link God bless, Mariann
  21. Enterolab does the cheek swab gene test. It uses cells collected from the lining of the cheek and tests the DNA on the cells. They use a genetics lab called Laboratory at Bonfils, in Denver, Colorado. It is fully licensed and accredited and they do testing for many things, including transplants. It is much cheaper to do than the blood gene test, and just...
  22. It means that you might have celiac disease and you might not. A lot of doctors will tell youu that you tested negative for celiac disease, but really the results are inconclusive. All three of my kids tested positive on the IgG Gliadin and negative on all the other tests. The problem is that IgG could be elevated for another reason, other that celiac...
  23. You can have a gene test done, either by blood test or by cells from the lining of your mouth. Both need to be done by good skilled labs and only a few labs in the country do genetic testing. Prometheus costs around $750(they do the celiac panel first and then run the gene test if it is negative, I don't know if you could get just the gene test. And they...
  24. Sarah, They put that on the wrapper to be on the safe side. Some sizes of their bars are wrapped in a separate facility that also wrapps candies that are made with milk and nuts. But they are made in a factory that is completely gluten, dairy, and nut free. I am very sensitive to milk and I did not have any reaction to their bars. God bless, Mariann
  25. Hi Jojes, Yes, it does sound like celiac disease to have your reaction be that bad. It also sounds like you are intolerant to casein (a milk protein) that is found in all dairy products and it actually quite common in Celiacs. See casein and gluten have a very similar molecular structure and for some Celiacs their body sees them as the same, and you...
