ARCHIVED Not Getting Better At All, Help?
gf4life replied to rdawn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
rdawn, My heart goes out to you. Pretty much all of us here at this site know how you feel and have gone through similar situations. I would like to address a few things, but first I want to ask you this. Have you conscidered that your insulin problem could have been caused by the Celiac? I am not saying to go Carb Crazy, but you may be able to tolerate... -
ARCHIVED Round Pebbles
gf4life replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am not a doctor, and I assume that you have seen a doctor for this, but it sounds like it may be swollen lymph nodes. Have you been checked for a general infection? It doesn't appear to be a symptom specific to Celiac, but it could be a sign that your body is fighting off some sort of illness. I hope you are able to find out what is wrong. What are... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
On their website they have quite a few recipes for chocolate desserts that are gluten free. I was kind of glad to see. I am hoping thier chocolates are a bit cheaper at their factory, at least the bulk chocolate for baking. I don't want to pay too much for shipping a few pounds of chocolate when I could pick some up when I am traveling to the coast, since... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Biopsy & Other Celiac Info
gf4life replied to zippyten's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ellen, I did not have symptoms that were consistent either. There would be some that were there daily, and others that would come and go. I think this has to do with the nutritional deficiencies and the fact that there will be some days where you get different amounts of the nutrients you need and other days you may be low on a lot of things you need, so... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Biopsy & Other Celiac Info
gf4life replied to zippyten's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The problem occurs when people have the gene (I have DQ2) and the symptoms of Celiac Disease (a very obvious intolerance to gluten based on my symptoms and improvement on the gluten-free diet), but have a negative biopsy (like me). That leaves us in the grey area. We need to be on a gluten free diet, but the doctors won't give us a diagnosis. So that... -
ARCHIVED Am I A Failure On This Diet?
gf4life replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welda, I agree with you. I had such high hopes for my children's new doctor, and then when their tests were messed up and they can't get in to see him until April, I e-mailed him to tell him I was having trouble keeping them ON gluten since they want to eat my gluten-free foods. He told me that it was impossible to have a child 100% gluten free, so just... -
ARCHIVED Hunts - Distilled Vinegar
gf4life replied to cyberbec's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Another gluten-free BBQ sauce is Cattleman's (sold at Costco, Sam's Club and BJ's). Del Monte Ketchup is supposed to be gluten-free too. But I just use Heinz. God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED Gf Salad Dressings...
gf4life replied to dustina's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I use Annie's Naturals (Raspberry Vinaigrette, and Balsamic Vinaigrette) and both are labeled gluten free. I get mine in the regular store and I have bought a few single serving packets from the Gluten Free Pantry to take with me to restaurants. The balsamic one tastes more like a vinaigrette, and the raspberry one tastes a little bit like Thousand... -
Open Original Shared Link Wendy's has a printable list of their gluten free foods on their website. You can find it at the link above. They actually have quite a few more items on their menu than McDonald's. I haven't tried them yet, so I hope that the cross-contamination issues can be kept to a minimum when we do eat there. I hate getting sick from...

Sarah, Your description of the locations of your acne was exactly like where mine is located. And I have noticed that it has gotten much worse since I went gluten-free. Especially when I have a gluten accident. I'm having far too many of those right now, since I am the only gluten-free person in a house with 3 kids! There are gluten crumbs everywhere...

ARCHIVED Arrowhead Mills
gf4life replied to tammy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Tammy, A lot of people have reactions to Arrowhead Mills products. Read this post called Open Original Shared Link . As for McCann's I have tried them, and I didn't notice a reaction the few times I ate it. But I do notice reactions with other oat products(by different companies), so I am about to try the McCann's again and see. I am getting... -
ARCHIVED Dish Soap
gf4life replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I recently purchased a gluten free/casein free shopping guide. It is updated every year, so these should be current and it also lists toiletry and cleaning products. This is what it says under Household Products: Colgate-Palmolive Household Products Ajax dish liquids-all variants Crystal White octagon lemon dish liquid Dermassage dish liquid Palmolive... -
ARCHIVED Detective Help Needed
gf4life replied to seeking-wholeness's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kathleen and Sarah, My mother-in-law is asian and she makes lumpia (filipino spring rolls). They make literally hundreds at a time and freeze them into bags of a few dozen. This way they can just thaw, fry and eat them whenever they need some. They are very simple to make and they do freeze well. You freeze them before they are cooked, then when you... -
ARCHIVED Another Enterolab Question
gf4life replied to VAGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks Phil, Yeah, it can be pretty scary, but at least now I know where to look! I just got their kits today and hope to send them off on Monday. So we'll both be looking for the results soon. I just want a clear cut YES or NO. The bloodtests on them keep coming back as a MAYBE. I just can't accept a maybe when it comes to my children's health... -
ARCHIVED Detective Help Needed
gf4life replied to seeking-wholeness's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I need to find me a "local" asian store. There are probably some about an hour and a half drive from here! Sarah, you asked about gluten-free dish soap. I recently purchased a gluten free/casein free shopping guide. It is updated every year, so these should be current and it also lists toiletry and cleaning products. This is what it says under... -
I recently tried some chocolate bars made by Scharffen Berger. They are really good, and I confirmed that they are gluten free. I feel better knowing they are made in a gluten free company. I always worry about cross-contamination, so these are ones we don't have to worry about. You can check out their full product line at the Open Original Shared Link...

ARCHIVED Confused About Biopsy & Other Celiac Info
gf4life replied to zippyten's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
1. Okay, the reason you are not clear on the distinction is because the medical field is also not clear on the distinction between gluten sensitivity/intolerance and Celiac Disease. It is basically an issue of degrees of severity and if you are gluten intolerant and continue to eat gluten then chances are very high that you will eventually get Celiac Disease... -
ARCHIVED Another Enterolab Question
gf4life replied to VAGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi VA Guy, They (at Enterolab) do not want you to go back on any of the offending foods. They will ask in the questionaire if you have already stopped eating those foods (if they don't you should mention it). I e-mailed them regarding the egg and yeast test the other day and asked if I needed to be eating those foods to be tested for a sensitivity... -
ARCHIVED If I Accidently Eat Something With Gluten...
gf4life replied to Newbie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Newbie, Of course we are all going to say NO, don't do it. The reality of it is that you are not quite back at square one. A minor accident, although usually painful for most (and will cause some damage in most people) will not completely flaten the villi. But if you go out and say, eat a pizza or something you are going to hurt yourself a bit more... -
ARCHIVED What Is Your Daily Diet
gf4life replied to mario's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mario, here is a list of some chocolate candies that are supposed to be gluten-free. Read all the labels though to be sure. Almond Joy candy bar Almond Roca Andes Cadbury: Cadbury Single Bars: Dairy Milk, Fruit & Nut/ Fruit et Noix, Hazelnut, Crunchie, Caramilk, Caramilk Roll, Burnt Almond Cadbury Easter Products: Mini Eggs, Dairy Milk Bunnies... -
ARCHIVED Adjustment Period?
gf4life replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Kenzie, this is the best list I have found so far. But as with all lists, they will never be 100% accurate since products change and companies change ingredients far too often. So keep reading the labels, but you can use this as a general guideline to point you to products that are probably gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link It is a 34 page pdf... -
ARCHIVED Urgent! Need Some Advice
gf4life replied to shanmac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
shanmac, I suggest that you ask to check the labels of the questioneable items when you get there, if at all possible. And you are not being paranoid you are just being cautious. We HAVE to be cautious or we get sick. I'm not sure about how to help you since it depends on the brand they use to know if the products are for sure gluten-free. But this... -
ARCHIVED Deducting Food From Taxes
gf4life replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was wondering if the diagnosis from Enterolab would satisfy the government as a diagnosis of the disease? Has anyone tried this? I would hate to pay an accountant and then be told it wouldn't count. Just because my own doctor doesn't accept the test results does not make them invalid. And I assume that they are a deductable medical expense as well.... -
ARCHIVED Very Confused
gf4life replied to joalabbs's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Kim, I was wondering if you have the name of those gluten-free chicken nuggets? My kids are nugget junkies and I would like to make sure our Whole Foods carries them before my kids go gluten-free. (The finish testing next month) Thanks. Also, would you happen to know if Kinnikinnick carries any yeast free breads? And are the breads really more like...
