ARCHIVED Graham Cracker Crumbs?
gf4life replied to bmzob's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Health Valley makes a rice bran graham style cracker and it tastes very similar to a graham cracker, only they are much harder. But smashed up as crumbs they would work fine. You just need to smash them very fine, or grind them in a food processor or grinder. I buy them at Whole Foods. You can also get them online at the Gluten Free Pantry and other... -
Hi all, I just turned on the TV for some noise while I was doing the dishes and I caught the last minute of Martha. I normally don't watch it, but she mentioned that tomorrow she is going to have Emma Rossum on the show and they are going to cook something together. I know that Emma Rossum is Celiac, so I am thinking they might mention it and that the...

ARCHIVED I Just Have A Question Please Read!
gf4life replied to aaron's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Aaron, you must have accidentally hit report instead of reply, so I cut and pasted your reply here. (Report sends your message to all of the moderators instead of posting it on the board. It is usually for reporting someone breaking a rule.) And I am glad to hear that your cousins are supportive of getting you on the gluten-free diet. That is great... -
ARCHIVED Isagenix Weight Management Program
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
24 days in and I've lost 12 pounds! Yeah. It was fun going through my closet. I plan to get rid of more clothes every 10 pounds. Eventually I will have to go shopping, but for now it is fun wearing clothes people have given me that I have never been able to wear before. My daughter thought I HAD gone shopping! -
ARCHIVED I Just Have A Question Please Read!

Open Original Shared Link You can use the link to access a list of auto-immune diseases. When you have one (like Celiac) and you let it go untreated you increase the risk of getting more of them. I was undiagnosed for more than 25 years. At age 4 I already had lots of symptoms, but went undiagnosed. by the time I was 13 I developed alopecia areata... -
ARCHIVED I Just Have A Question Please Read!
gf4life replied to aaron's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Worst case scenario-you could get intestinal cancer. More likely you will start by getting other auto-immune diseases. There is a whole list of them someplace around here. I'll see if I can find it. You will certainly continue to lose your health, since every time you eat gluten more of your intestines are getting damaged. Even without symptoms.... -
ARCHIVED So Many Newbies Have Joined Us
gf4life replied to Lisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I for one have a lengthy signature, but I feel that I have put down the bare minumum of each of the 4 members of my family who need the gluten free diet. I just wanted to share a story about the fact that I included in my son Jacobs list the fact that he has FMF (Familial Mediterranean Fever), it is unrelated to Celiac, just another twist of genetic fate... -
ARCHIVED Isagenix Weight Management Program
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Okay, I've been weighing myself almost daily and charting my daily food intake like clockwork, but I only take my measurements about every 3-5 days. Well on the Isagenix plan they have you take your pre-diet measurements, then 2 times during the 9day or 30 day duration and then at the end of your 9 or 30 day plan. So this is my third time recording my measurements... -
ARCHIVED Ever Want To Shake Your Spouse?
gf4life replied to IrishKelly's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
You know the funny part is that my husband LOVES my gluten-free goodies, and will eat gluten-free meals with us at home (our house is about 95% gluten-free, only his protein shakes and a few of his sauces contain gluten), but I have a hard time sharing the stuff I bake with him, since if he wants something he can go to a bakery and buy it for him anytime... -
ARCHIVED Isagenix Weight Management Program
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was mainly eating chicken, fish, or occasionally beef (I don't eat beef often as I have trouble digesting it, I ate it today and I'm still having a rumbly tummy since lunch) and lots of salad, and the lower carb veggies all day long. Eggs for breakfast, some fats, but the healthier ones, but if I ate very many carbs at all, the weight wouldn't budge. ... -
Congratulations on the new job Carrie!

I thought Kaili's Kitchen was sold to a new owner and changed to DaVinci's Bakery at a different location... I've never been to Seattle, but I did some research for a gluten-free friend who was going there and everytime I clicked on a link for Kaili's the link would redirect me to the bakery website. They do serve food though, so it might be nice. Everything...

ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill All Purp gluten-free Flour
gf4life replied to KrisT's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you really don't want to mix up your own flour blend you can buy it pre-mixed with the same amounts as the recipe below that TriticusToxicum mentioned. It is called Gluten Free Gourmet Blend by Ener-g and it is very smooth and not grainy at all, even the batter tastes good "raw". I have never had any problems with it and my baked goods come out great... -
Congrats on both the wedding and the cake. I'd like to see a picture too if you can post it.

ARCHIVED Ever Want To Shake Your Spouse?
gf4life replied to IrishKelly's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
This is a good idea. I don't usually tell people that the dessert (or pasta, biscuits, muffins, etc) is gluten free until after they have eaten it. Birthday parties are particularly amusing. A few times I have been asked "So the kids only eat gluten on their birthdays?" And I would tell them that there is no gluten in the cake. They always are surprised... -
ARCHIVED Isagenix Weight Management Program
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yeah, I can see how shakes aren't enough for some people. I can fill up on water alone if I am not careful! So the shakes are very filling to me. For me the problem is to not burn too many calories in a day or else I get very tired. I average about 1000 calories eaten and 1300-1400 calories burned per day. And I am doing very well with that. Today I... -
ARCHIVED Isagenix Weight Management Program
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just letting everyone know how I am doing on this weight management plan. It is now 17 days and I've lost 8lbs, but also I've lost 8.5 inches overall! I am so excited about that. Many of my pants are getting loose and I keep tugging them up, and I wore a sweater to church yesterday than my MIL gave me 2 christmases ago and I've never worn because it was... -
ARCHIVED Cupcake Preparedness
gf4life replied to Suzie-GFfamily's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I second the freezing method. I bake cupcakes 24 at a time and freeze whatever we don't eat that day. I pull one out and let each kid choose how they want to decorate it (my oldest likes his without frosting) or I decorate them if it is a sudden call from the school. I have frosted some and frozen them frosted. They always come out soft and really tasty... -
ARCHIVED Ever Want To Shake Your Spouse?
gf4life replied to IrishKelly's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My husband almost always has to work on Thanksgiving, so we always schedule our dinner for either before he goes to work or after he gets off work, and his family never comes over for that, but we usually have friends over, and I make it completely gluten-free...This year my husband has the whole week off, so we are taking our family of 5 on vacation and... -
ARCHIVED Hidden Valley Ranch
gf4life replied to kaciemarie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What I was told by Hidden Valley 2-3 years ago was that the starch they use can vary all the time, because they get whatever is cheapest with their distributor at any given time, so sometimes it is wheat starch, and they do not consider their Ranch to be gluten free. I don't think they have any plans to change this, since it is their standard method and... -
ARCHIVED More Suseptable To Catching Staph?
gf4life replied to SarahTorg's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My husband currently has a staph infection on his forearm, and is on antibiotics. Here is how we keep the rest of the family from getting it. First off I have to say that I am more likely to get it than not. I am prone to getting skin infections and so I am more than nervous when he gets one! He is sleeping on the futon bed in another room, he keeps... -
ARCHIVED Awesome Wf gluten-free Protein Shakes/foods For Fellow Exercise Enthusiasts
gf4life replied to Robina's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I use the Jay Robb egg white protein shakes, but not the strawberry one. It has stevia in it and I had a BAD reaction to that. I like the chocolate and the plain. But I don't use a blender. I did the first few times, but I found that it whipped up too much air into a froth and that was causing too much trapped air in my stomach. It was very uncomfortable... -
ARCHIVED Isagenix Weight Management Program
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, 10 days in and I have lost 6lbs and overall 4 inches, mostly from my abdomen, hips and chest, with about 1/2 inch off my upper arms. That is not too bad. I also feel much healthier. Mayflowers, I may eventually get tired of shakes, but for now I am really enjoying it. I was at the point where I hate eating! I just get so tired of having to... -
ARCHIVED Isagenix Weight Management Program

Machines like the Gazelle are the worst for my joints. It is that repetative motion that causes the swelling and pain. And it is my hip and knee joints that I have problems with. The same with any video that is like aerobics, I am not supposed to do them. I have had joint problems since I was about 4 years old, and was hospitalized for the pain. I was...
