ARCHIVED Home Schooling?
gf4life replied to hannahsue01's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I do not home school my kids (grades 2, 5 and 7 this year), but I did not send them to pre-school. At that point we did not know that gluten was a problem for us, I suspected when my youngest was a toddler and we all went gluten free when she was almost 4. All of my children went right into Kindergarten with no social problems. They did not cry, were not... -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods Baltimore
gf4life replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't live anywhere near Baltimore, but I am pretty sure the Gluten Free Bakehouse Items are the same. We really like the chocolate chip cookies, very much worth the price for a tasty, chewy chocolate chip cookie. My kids love these for a special treat when I don't feel like baking. The Prairie Bread is really good if you like multi-grain seed bread... -
ARCHIVED Cooking Spray And Torani Syrups
gf4life replied to Tigger18's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have looked at every store in my town (and the next biggest town) except Kmart, which is probably where I will find it. I just forget to look everytime I walk through the door! What is funny is that my husband has a case of them left over from when he used to sell car wash products and they have never been used. I am about to ask him to go dig... -
ARCHIVED Got Really Sick This Afternoon
gf4life replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well each brand is a little different. Hersheys miniatures do not get the vat cleaned out between batches, so they all eventually get some contamination with the not gluten-free rice crispies, although some more than others, which would explain why one person might not have as bad a reaction as someone else. But is it wortht he risk? With Snickers, ... -
ARCHIVED Cooking Spray And Torani Syrups
gf4life replied to Tigger18's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I personally don't like the taste of cooking sprays, but many people here use Pam (just make sure you don't accidentally get Pam for baking-which contains wheat flour in it). I get Mazola Pure Olive Oil cooking spray for my husband. I am looking for a pump spray bottle for oil, so I can make my own out of regular olive oil... I don't know about the syrups... -
ARCHIVED Got Really Sick This Afternoon
gf4life replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
All M & M's are gluten-free (even the mini packs), except the Crispy M & M's. They don't make them anymore, but that doesn't mean there aren't some still lurking in the stores! -
ARCHIVED Stevia
gf4life replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is a liquid and it looks a lot like honey. It is from a cactus and is a very nice sweetener. -
ARCHIVED Got Really Sick This Afternoon
gf4life replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Almost all of the mini candy bars are NOT gluten-free, there is something they do in the processing of the minis that makes them contaminated even if the labels seem okay. It is the same with the holiday shaped bars they make for Christmas and Easter too. My kids are okay with this, since it means they get to eat a full size bar! We just say no to all... -
ARCHIVED Stevia
gf4life replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have you tried agave nectar? I like it a lot. It has a low GI value, and tastes good. It is sweet, so you don't have to use very much. I am avoid refined sugars so I have been tryinbg other options. I don't use artificial sweeteners at all, not even splenda. I seem to be allergic to stevia and honey seems to trigger headaches, so I use agave with no... -

ARCHIVED No Gall Bladder
gf4life replied to Marlene's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I haven't had a gall bladder for 7 years and I've been gluten free for 4 years. I didn't notice that it caused any delay in healing, but I did notice that that sense of urgency is common for those of us without gallbladders whether they are gluten free or not. I've found it does get a little better with time. It is too bad that they didn't catch the... -
ARCHIVED Alfalfa As A Galactagogue - Is It Safe ?
gf4life replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You would need to check to make sure the alfalfa supplement is gluten free, and then it should be fine. Alfalfa itself is gluten free, but many supplements have added ingredients and sometimes there is gluten added as a filler. It would be safe as a lactation aid as long as there are no allergies to alfalfa. I personally am allergic to alfalfa and have... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Put In Rice To Make It Taste Good?
gf4life replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I like to add a little bit of garlic olive oil. Star brand Olive Oil with Garlic is awesome. It has a really good garlic flavor and only a little bit of oil is needed to give a nice flavor. For a good chinese flavoring I love Greta's sesame-soy marinade. It is gluten free and really good. I only have it occasionally since I am allergic to soy and have... -
Thanks Tiffany. I am so happy with the results I am getting.

ARCHIVED Are celiac disease People Usually Thinner?
gf4life replied to kristiney's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Since most people don't know they actually have Celiac disease it is really hard to say. many are underweight by the time they get diagnosed, but there are probably about the same number of overweight Celiacs out there as there are underweight and normal weight Celiacs. How long do you have to wait for your biopsy? Although you are losing weight it isn... -
ARCHIVED Might Someone Find This Useful?
gf4life replied to eKatherine's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is a nice little flowchart, but it should say that gluten is in wheat, rye, barley and sometimes oats. It is misleading to say it is only in wheat. I did not find any broken links. -
For those of you who haven't been following my progress on my other topic "Isagenix Weight Management Program", I have lost 16 pounds in the last 35 days and have lost over 30 inches over my body. I am so happy and continue to lose weight daily. I feel part of my success though is that I have joined an online support group called Open Original Shared...

ARCHIVED ***could My Son Be Allergic To His Diapers?
gf4life replied to azmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know if they are more sensitive there, or if it could be a reaction with the chemicals in the diapers and the chemicals in that particular child's urine. To me it doesn't really matter, if they have a bad reaction to a particular diaper I am going to avoid it. But it did get me thinking about it when Ursula mentioned the bleach issue. I wondered... -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Turkey Gluten Free
gf4life replied to rez's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most turkeys are gluten free, but some contain a gravy packet in them that is NOT gluten free. You should be able to check the labels. I usually get Norbest. It says gluten free right on the label. It is always juicy and tender. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Problems With Corn Tortillas?
gf4life replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have problems with a few brands of corn tortillas (even the ones that say gluten free) and for me it seems to be the guar gum that many contain. I have noticed a similar stomach reaction to other foods and the common factor is guar gum. I stick to the brands that my store carries that are just corn, water and lime. I don't eat the ones that have more... -
Here is a list that I put together 2 years ago when my kids were also dairy free. Most of it should still be accurate. Just double check the labels before you buy.

Okay, now I admit that she was NOT there to talk about Celiac/gluten, but they did cook a gluten-free dessert, they just didn't say it was gluten-free. at least she did mention that she cannot eat gluten, but I do wish she would have said something about the other gluten-free flours that she could make "pastries" and such out of... If she really loves...

ARCHIVED ***could My Son Be Allergic To His Diapers?
gf4life replied to azmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Do you ever use the sipes to wipe his face/hands/feet/belly, etc? If you do an he doesn't break out in those places, then it isn't the wipes... Now, I have to add my expereinces. My oldest was started out with cloth diapers from a diaper service. I had gotten 6 weeks of diaper service from my babyshower gifts. I thought it would be great, the benefits... -
Yes, here is a good list, but make sure you still check ingredients, since manufacturer change ingredients often and the list only gets update a few times a year, and may not be 100% accurate anyhow. Use it more as a guideline to put you in the right direction. Open Original Shared Link
