You sound like me before I was gluten free. I still had the migraines and daily headaches after being gluten free for about 4 years, but everything else got better (except for the psoriasis and mild neuropathy in my right foot). I was able to get rid of my daily headaches last year by detoxing and this also helped the migraines to be less frequent. My...

Yeah, we just paid extra for this board that wasn't supposed to break so easy. And Ben just got it about 3 this afternoon. He managed to break it in less than 4 hours!! Fortunately it has a 30 day guarantee against breakage. So I have to put it right back in the mail!! Ben isn't too happy right now.

Okay, I didn't realise my son was logged in and I accidentally posted the message under his username (Teku). Sorry. It was me actually.

ARCHIVED Finally - A gluten-free Frosting In A Jar
gf4life replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We use Pillsbury. I will look for the Trader Joes one next time I am near a Trader Joe's, but Pillsbury I can buy locally and it has worked for us for many years. We do not use any other brand of canned frosting. -
ARCHIVED Malt
gf4life replied to Babygirl6915's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Malt is typically made from Barley. Barley is a gluten grain and needs to be avoided by gluten intolerant individuals. So if you are only allergic to wheat, then you could eat the Rice Krispy Treats, but that would be your personal choice. I prefer to make my own using gluten free rice cereal, margarine and marshmellows. Not only are they easy to make... -
ARCHIVED What Basics Should I Stock Up On
gf4life replied to lob6796's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My closest Whole Foods is over an hour away. I buy some stuff there, but not a lot. I buy nearly all my flours online because I didn't like the selection that the Whole Foods in my area carries, but I love the Tinkyada pasta. We get the pasta, San-J Wheat Free Tamari soy sauce, and sometimes we splurge and get some of the Whole Foods Gluten Free Bakehouse... -
Hi Mike, Ben (Teku) would have been a surfer had we lived on the coast longer than his first 4 years! He was born in the Monterey Bay Area and we lived 2 blocks from the beach! But alas, we moved inland and he is a skater through and through! I think I might have preferred surfing for him, since it is much harder to break a surfboard than a skate...

Hi Molly and Happy Belated Birthday! Please let us know about the conference for Celiac Teens. I would love for my boys to be involved with that. Have a blast in Boston!

I use a blend of rice four/tapioca starch/potato starch and I store the unopened packages on the shelf in my kitchen (not near the stove). Once opened I store them in ziploc bags in the freezer and use as necessary. I have not known my flour to go bad at all, but I don't think it ever lasts longer than 3-4 months in the freezer due to my using it all up...

ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test Results
gf4life replied to ClaireE's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No matter what your doctor says you will need the gluten free diet, since you are having a reaction to gluten, that is why the tests were positive. But do NOT start the gluten free diet until after the endoscopy/gut biopsy. Yes, I realise that this means 3-4 months of suffering, but if you eat gluten free for even a few days before the test it can alter... -
Peripheral Neuropathy is a common symptom of Celiac Disease. Since it is so prevalent in the family and some have had GI issues, then being screened for Celiac Disease is not a bad idea.

ARCHIVED How Accurate Are Celiac Blood Screens?
gf4life replied to Jane-MomfromMN's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is a lot of confusion regarding the accuracy of the blood tests. The issue is very confusing in regards to the medical community. They seem to disagree a lot! I had one GI tell me that they had more false positives and that fasle negatives were unheard of. This is the opposite of reality. In reality, if you test positive then you have Celiac... -
The Filippino dish sounds like Pansit. My husband is Filippino and his family makes this almost daily. It has gluten in it if it is made the traditional way. Not only is it made with soy sauce in the flavoring, but the "other" noodle is a wheat noodle similar to Top Ramen. It is typically made with small sliced veggies and small strips of chicken, but...

little d, I would be wary of the grilled chicken. It is NOT gluten free, and the gluten is in the seasoning on the actual product. Here is what their current ingredient list says: Grilled Chicken Breast Filet: Chicken breast filets with rib meat, water, seasoning (salt, sugar, food starch-modified, maltodextrin, spices, dextrose, autolyzed yeast...

Last year when McD's added the wheat/milk allergen label on their fries there was a big stink about it. They ELISA tested the fries for gluten and there were no detectable levels of gluten. The hashbrowns are the same. They still have to leave that on there because at some point in the processing the product does come in contact with wheat/milk, and for...

ARCHIVED Tostitos How Could You!
gf4life replied to ekdumas19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay, I bought some more of my "new favorite" chips today. They are Casa Sanchez Thin & Light Tortilla chips. They are really great chips. They remind me of the homemade chips I used to get from the authentic mexican food restaurants years ago. Very tasty, thin, crisp and just the right amount of salt! They hold up well with salsa, guacamole and... -
ARCHIVED What Is Going On With Beef Jerky Companies?
gf4life replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Pacific Gold beef jerky is made by Oberto and just packaged differently for a different market. It is sold at Costco for about $10/lb, versus the $5-6 dollars for 4oz of the EXACT same jerky in the Oberto package. I buy the Original Pacific Gold Beef Jerky from Costco all the time, but they no longer sell the Peppered, so I have to get that at the... -
ARCHIVED Kinninick Frozen Pizza Crusts-
gf4life replied to lcbannon's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't buy the muffins anymore, but when I did I liked them just thawed on the counter, not microwaved. It made them all mushy. But the bread, pizza crust, bagels, english muffins, are all great when you microwave them first. -
ARCHIVED Kinninick Frozen Pizza Crusts-
gf4life replied to lcbannon's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It says in tiny little print on the back of the bag (every single bag I have ever bought in the last 4 years) next to the nutrition facts label: This product contains no preservatives. Keep Frozen. These products have been designed to be frozen and thawed for use. While not necessary, microwaving or toasting improved flavor and texture. I... -
ARCHIVED For All Nesquik Lovers. . .

I know what you mean. I am casein intolerant and try to avoid all dairy all the time. So I can't even take Lactaid to help...The breakfast shake mixed with milk would just be pure torture! -
ARCHIVED Tostitos How Could You!
gf4life replied to ekdumas19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is a local company in Central California and for the life of me I can't recall the name. I am out right now. I will post the name when I get a new bag. They are thicker and crunchier than regular Tostitos, much like the Bite Sized Gold. I haven't seen an opened bag, but you can see the picture on the bag and they look exactly like the Bite Sized... -
ARCHIVED I Took My Three Kids In To Be Tested Today
gf4life replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
All 3 of my kids have it. I was actually relieved. I would rather it be either all or none. I would have felt really bad if it had only been one or two of them. then we would have had to deal with the others bring ing gluten into the house or having different foods when we go out and stuff. It is so much easier to have us all on the diet. My husband... -
ARCHIVED Tostitos How Could You!
gf4life replied to ekdumas19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My favorite Tostitos chip had been the Bite Sized Gold, and I was so mad when I saw that they recently have made the flour tortilla chips and they are EXACTLY the same size and shape as the bite size gold chips! I assume that means that they are run on the same macine that makes that size! I no longer feel safe buying my favorite chips. I had to go find...
