  1. I get a reaction any where from 30 minutes to 2 days later....never any rhyme or reason to it. I can get sick from just one reaction all the way up to 6 weeks later.
  2. I am all for the 504. I was once a celiac disease child and had to watch my mom batlle with the school. Before I was diagnosed, I missed allot of school. They actually threatened to throw my parents into jail, since I had missed so much school. After the offical diagnosis, she still had to fight with them. She actually got a 504 or something similar (i'm...
  3. They also give steroids, it actually really helps aleviate the reaction.
  4. Have you checked into Multiple Schlerosis (sp) (people who have celiac are more likely to get it) or fibromyalgia? When you are a celiac and you eat gluten you get nerve damage, since your body attacks itself. TMJ is where you have problems with clenching your jaw and it causes severe pain.
  5. You can have a reaction up to 6 weeks later after eating gluten. As for the stomach pain, I get severe stomach cramps along with diahrea. The pain is always right below my belly button area. I wouldn't worry about the pots and pans, just make sure they are cleaned well and you should be fine.
  6. I just explain celiac as if I was talking to a 10 year old. I will hold my hand up and say my fingers are like the lineing of your stomache. I then trace around my fingers and say a normal lineing absorbs like this. I then tell them, when i eat wheat etc, it eats my lineing, I then put my fingers down and show the tops of my knuckles. I then explain that...
  7. Well, I don't personally eat it, but my family does (they are from North and South Carolina. I have a great recipe for batterd veggies. It really is simple, can't remember wich recipe book I got it out of though. Basicly it is: about 2 cups of Rice flour or another gluten-free flour of your choice. about 1-2 tbs of seasoning such as johhny's (where...
  8. I was diagnosed when I was 13 (17 years ago). They knew a little more when I was diagnosed but not much. It was the last thing I was tested for, even though my mom thought it was what I had all along. She is a nurse and had done a lot of research.
  9. I had 2 done when I was 13 (17 years ago). They also sprayed the back of my throat. Plus they knocked me out like I was having surgery, that might be a option for you.
  10. I have been on a gluten free diet for 17 years and have never been glutened by kissing. The chances are slim to none. Obviously if the other person has a mouth full of bread or something and you plant one on them, then yeah of course.
  11. I have the same symptoms, I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia on Monday. I have been gluten free for 17 years (accept when I would have an accidental glutening). Maybe you should check into that?

    ARCHIVED Sleep Patterns

I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It seems that no matter how much sleep I get, I feel like I got ran over by a truck. I am also quite the night owl, always have been. The Dr, gave me some pills to help me sleep, so hopefully this will help.
  13. For years I had problems gaining weight. I also felt hungry all the time, even after I ate. I would be physically full, but would still feel the hunger sensation. It is hard to gain weight on a gluten free diet, after all you are bascily following a modified Atkins diet. I drank Carnation instant beakfast in my milk with dinner etc. Ensure would also be an...
  14. I read in an article (10+) years ago that Goldie Hawn is celiac or she at least follows a gluten free diet. Don't know for sure if it is true, though. I can understand why celebs would say they have food allergies. I often say it as well. It's allot easier to explain to a waitress that you are allergic to wheat than try and explain celiac to them. I...
  15. Both brands are really good. When I make the brownies, I put the batter into the pan and then I take raspberry jelly and swirl it into the batter. You have to cook it for another 5-10 minutes. But it is so worth it.
  16. Hi all, I am also new to this board. However, I am all too familiar with celiac gluten free diet. I was diagnosed 17 years ago. I am truely amazed at how things have changed since that time. Back then, I was told only 1 in 2,500 people in the U.S. had celiac. I was 13 back then and it made me feel very isolated. The only products my mom was able to find was...
  17. When I have accidently gotten gluten, I sometimes end up in the hospital and sometimes just get the bad stomach cramps and diarrhea. I never know how severe my reaction will be. I agree, it's not worth the risk.
