  1. They have a fruit salad that is individually packed/sealed in factory that he might be able to get.
  2. As a heads up to anyone here that is dairy intolerant - Chik-Fil-A soaks their chicken in milk before breading and cooking. So if you're trying to avoid casein, this will be somewhat problematic. As everyone else said - the beginning of this is rocky. My nutritionist said that I'd have ups and downs until every bit of gluten was out of my system, which...
  3. Oh it was definitely chronic dehydration. I've never had a problem with ingesting coffee in reasonable doses. I still have reaction symptoms (just not as intense as before), so, I'm just having straight coffee or home-made coffee for now while I get back to 100%. It certainly helped the 3 day migraine I got after thinking I was "safe" and tried a vanilla...
  4. I want to thank everyone for your advice. I've taken extra steps to avoid as much gluten as possible, cut down on caffeine, and upped my water intake, which has helped. Unfortunately, this is my only job at the moment, after 6 months of unemployment. I'm going to have to stick to it for a while, as I look for a second/new job.
  5. I seem to have bad luck with any Italian Restaurant. I went to Buca Di Beppo, and they had about 3-4 gluten-free options - none of which were available without dairy. I had to sit and watch my family eat while the chefs decided if they'd be willing to cook sausage in oil for me, instead of butter. I don't even bother with commercial Italian anymore....
  6. Actually on second thought - I was house sitting for a month in a very gluteny house. Maybe it's a combination of things. Ugh, just... grr.
  7. Ah, drat. This has been the best job - yeah the pay is low and the hours aren't ideal, but I've been in heaven. I really hope I don't have to give up this job. Thank you
  8. Thanks psawyer, for clearing up that myth!! I'm happy to know I won't have to give up vanilla lattes, HA. And thank you, pricklypear1971... I'll talk to my manager and see if they can make some accommodations for me until this clears up. The dough, luckily, requires minimal handling (no kneading or anything- just place a cookie on a baking sheet and...
  9. It honestly depends on where you are - it's kind of hit or miss. I have a few mom and pop places where I live that have AMAZING options for gluten/dairy free people. Better than a lot of chains that brag about supposed gluten free menus!! Just communicate with the staff - if you get the feeling that they don't have a clue, then, you're safe to feel doubt...
  10. Hey everyone, I recently got a job as a barista at a Barnes and Noble Cafe. We serve Starbucks products (I call us a pretend Starbucks... same thing, really). This has fed my addiction to coffee, but unfortunately, I've been glutened. I have a few theories as to what it is, please let me know what your thoughts are! 1. I may have missed hidden glutens...
  11. ...right, well, I'm trying out the cf thing for a month for the first time and really have no idea if there are hidden ingredients or anything. This was my main concern I just want to see the words, "Dairy Free" or "Casein Free" for peace of mind, I really don't know what I'm doing. Thanks!
  12. I know Spectrum mayonnaise is gluten free, but is it Dairy/Casein free??? I have the organic kind, with Olive Oil... I've been eating it even though I'm supposed to go df/cf. Google hasn't helped at all.
  13. I am still getting used to the gluten free thing. I've been mostly gluten free since July 2011 (mostly because I have made a lot of mistakes). I happen to enjoy going to bars and getting pretty drunk with some of my friends and just having some dumb fun. My only problem is I have a quiet voice and bar tenders DO NOT understand why I ask for specific brands...
  14. hahahaha, but that weirdly textured kibble is just so irresistible But yeah no kidding, I was reading the ingredients of my favorite shampoo and it has barley in it. WHY?? And I dropped my cat off at my parent's house this weekend so I can study for finals. Believe it or not, I'm hive free. Hmmmm.
  15. That's what caught me on to the whole thing, I took my cat to the vet and she said these key words "in dry food, they use a lot of whole grains to bind the food and can cause grain allergies in your cat". It got me thinking...
  16. I just simplify it to the max (if it's someone I'm not likely to run into again) with "Thanks, but I'm allergic to bread". Surprisingly, a lot of people say, "Oh, you mean celiac's?" YES thank you, official new friend!
  17. Wow, I'm glad this isn't just me. I've had hives for weeks on end, and only break out when I'm at home. I was beginning to think I had bugs or something when I started slowly feeling like I was having an anaphylactic response (slowly)!! I took 2 benadryl, felt sooo much better. Then I thought, what if it's the cat? Yep. Wheat is the 4th ingredient in her...
  18. Yep. I'm 22 and there are 10 year old girls out there with bigger boobs than me. People always will say "you're so lucky". This is so true, but I admit it, curves would be nice. However, you have to be comfortable with yourself. Many people wish they could look like you. Just try to accept that you're GORGEOUS because you're you. You don't have to worry about...
  19. Same situation, my friend. I have no idea how to cope with this and give my body the nutrients it needs. So I end up eating potatoes for a week. Then quinoa the next week. Then I wonder why I can't concentrate and feel exhausted. Hmmm.
  20. I am still completely new to this and I've been on the gluten-free diet for about 6 months now. I just recently ran into a brick wall and have discovered that I need to start acknowledging my limitations. I am looking for the most simple recipes possible. I have limited ingredients. I really need help, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I was so tired...
  21. When I first got diagnosed with this, my own brother told me I was full of it. Yes, brother, I'm throwing away all of my favorite food for fun. What gets me, is my friend's mom was gluten-free. We always thought it was in her head (she was kind of an attention hungry person. But we love her) and would express our doubts. Now I have the same thing. Karma...
  22. Same here. I actually break out in hives and feel "fuzzy brained" but never really have pain. Though I do have gas if I gluten myself.
  23. My blood test showed up negative, but I still have the signs an symptoms of gluten intolerance/wheat allergy. Get a second opinion or speak with a specialist. I'm still struggling because I haven't done this. I am still doubting myself but as much as I hate to say it, I feel better.
  24. Oy vey!! I actually meant balance as in trying to have a balanced diet instead of week 1: potatoes. week 2: chips. Week 3: salad. No nutrition at all.
  25. Actually, I went to an Udi's restaurant and was surprised when the waitress really didn't know what was gluten free or not! I asked if I could have the ketchup, if the dipping sauce and dressings with my meal were ok, and she had to go ask. She was so nice and very helpful but it did instill a level of insecurity. Heck, I'll still eat there, it's nice...
