Bette replied to Merika's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey celiac3270, Our Whole foods Market just started to carry the Bakehouse products this week. Yeah!!! I was so excited for Kayla (dragon queen) when I saw their sandwich bread. She has not had a decent sandwich bread, that we have been able to find so far for lunches and thus has just gone without. I bought a loaf yesterday, tasted myself. You are... -

Thanks everybody, I have used it and had no problems. I mix it with cornmeal to dip my fish in, makes a good batter . I don't have a recipe for tamales either. There is a recipe on the package for making the tortilla's though. Please share if you ever find that good tamale recipe -
ARCHIVED Arrowhead Mills Buckwheat Flour
Bette posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been playing detective trying to figure out mine and my daughters latest gluten source. I had made buckwheat pancakes last sat. I used Arrowhead Mills Buckwheat flour. My recipe also called for buttermilk. Now I had made these same pancakes all summer long when I was visiting my parents in Oklahoma and not once did my daughter and I have any problems... -

ARCHIVED Leap Testing
Bette replied to liljules5's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
George, Make sure and keep us informed about your results. I do not know where to start as far as testing for other food intolerances for me and my daughter. She had been skin allergy tested for airborne allergies, but her pediatrician and her GI will not order any test for her (something that would be covered under her insurance), stating there is no... -

ARCHIVED Hypereosinophilic Syndrom,heart Problem
Bette replied to grantschoep's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hmmm... interesting topic grantschoep, I was just diagnosed earlier this year with mitral valve prolapse and a bicuspid aortic valve. Both are leaking but very mininal. I was put on heart medication (beta blockers) but just had too many side affects from the drugs. My cardiologist agreed it was okay not to have to take them at this point. I just have to... -

Bette replied to Bette's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for all the ideals everybody. This is day 2 and I am still having waves of cramping(the only way I can describe it , is like the same cramping and pain that comes on right before you have diarreaha). The crazy thing is that I feel like I need to run to the bathroom, then nothing!! Its as if I have no ability to have the bowel movement, everthing has... -

ARCHIVED How Do You Nurse Your Gut Back To Health
Bette posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi everybody, I know there is another topic right now about how you deal with the emotional aspects of being glutened. What I need to know is how and what do you eat for the physical symptoms of the gut after you have been glutened? I am cramping and bloated and constipated. Along with trying to figure out what the culprit was,are there comforting and... -

ARCHIVED Let's Talk About Poop For A Minute.
Bette replied to frenchiemama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Jeeesh, we really are an obsessed bunch of poop fanatic's!! Ha ha, look at all of the replies is such a short time. So here goes my poop related question. I always had the hard as rock pellets or tennis balls like constipation my whole life. Since I went gluten free back this past May, that was one of the first things that changed. It was soft, and formed... -
Sarah or anybody else who has tried purefit, how do they taste? ARCHIVED 1 More Thing About Gf Flours
Bette posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I started second guessing myself about some of the flours I bought and figured I better clarify. Is the brand "Maseca" corn flour okay? I bought this at Walmarts and the ingredients read : specailly ground and dehydrated whole corn and lime. No perservatives added. I wanted to use it to make tamales and tortillas. Bette -
Jen thanks for enlightning me I think for now I will just stick to the almond drinks, in all honesty I did not favor the chalky like taste of the rice dream, but I thought they all tasted that way, anyways good luck with the strawberry muffin recipe and have fun on your travels. Jamie thanks for posting the recipe, they sound yummy, I will try it. Since...

OMG, I have been using the Rice dream this whole time (all summer) since me and my daughter have gone gluten-free. Luckily in my daughters case she doesn't like it so she uses blue diamond almond vanilla drink. Just when you think you are getting a hang of reading the labels. It does not list anything about the barley under the ingredients. But Jenvan...

I went a little overboard this past weekend at the health food stores and bought a lot of the various gluten-free flours. I am so tired of paying these outrageous prices for the premixed ones (although a lot less time consuming) plus now my dilemma is how to store them. Is it okay to freeze what you won't be immediately using? Plus do you refrigerate...

ARCHIVED Tortillas
Bette replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks so much Terri, again I looked at ingredients (was impressed with myself ,ha thought I was finally catching on) and did not even consider contamination as an issue. Back to the store for Mission corn tortillas. At least there is a major manufacturer out there to supply us with our beloved tortillas. I would be lost without my supply of chips...
