uclangel422 replied to rmmadden's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Help - Really Sick Today
uclangel422 replied to marycubs's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I believe that taco bell adds wheat to their taco meat to thicken it up, i think i remember reading that somwhere. Also, I have been gluten-free for almost 2 months now and it does seem that now even a small bit of gluten can cause a large reaction, much worse than when i first started. Probably has to do with the villi healing itself and then healthy... -
I decided to not go right now. I think that maybe i will down the road if i need to, but its just way too much money. Plus the one the Dr. recommended has the strangest hours and i would have to take almost a full day off from work.

Thats the one that i get most often and it is so annoying, mostly because i havent lost weight since being gluten-free, except for the post-bloat water weight. Also people keep telling me that if i eat a little gluten, then my body may get used to it. Oh yeah, like 24 years of eating it helped up to this point. And then there is the ever popular, maybe...

ARCHIVED Tried To Eat At The Movies... :(
uclangel422 replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow, so did I. I am completely shocked. I must remember to check labels when i go to the theater from now on. I wonder why they would have that on their labels but the ones in the market doesnt? -
I totally agree with you. Since starting this, i have eaten nothing but bad things. No matter how hard I try not to, I can always find a way to justify the potato chips or the candy bar. My family can go ahead and eat a roll, i will just have extra ice cream, stuff like that. I tried some great gluten-free cookies and was almost unhappy that they were...

ARCHIVED Heavenly Low Carb Market
uclangel422 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If anyone lives in the Los Angeles area, there is a fantastic low carb market across the street from where i live. They have a nice large section of gluten free food including some very hard to find items. I also spoke to the manager and they will be increasing the section in the near future. The name is Heavenly Low Carb and it is on Van Nuys Blvd. between... -
ARCHIVED Acapulco Mexican Restaurant
uclangel422 replied to uclangel422's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I did have the rice, so maybe that was it. I thought that i was being pretty safe. An enchilada with no sauce, a taco on a corn tortilla, but i did eat the rice and beans. Thanks for the info. -
Hey All, I havent been able to find any information about Acapulco's Mexican Restaurant. I dont know how popular it is, i know they have alot of locations in Southern California. Any information would be helpful. I ate there and got sick this weekend and would like to isolate what it was. Thanks!!!

uclangel422 replied to sweeet-pea's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am malnourished too but taking one look and me and you wouldnt be able to tell. I am one of the slightly overweight celiacs. Anyway, you will feel better but it will take some time. It has been about 6 weeks for me and i feel fantastic. I take iron supplements and am finally getting all of my energy back. No more crippling abdominal pain for me and no... -
ARCHIVED How Tall Are U?
uclangel422 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am 5'0", but then again my mom's family is all about the same height. I was never going to get much taller than this. -
Thanks for the input. I have read so much stuff already that i cannot imagine anything they could give me that i havent read.

My doctor referred me to a nutritionist but there were no available appointments for another month, plus it is expensive and not covered by my insurance. I was wondering if anyone here saw a nutritionist when they were first starting out and it was worth the money. Thanks for the help.

I also get really tired when i have eaten something bad, that along with pain is normally how i know that something is up with my body. I am not doctor, but i am guessing that since your body starts attacking your insides because of whatever you just ate, it takes a lot out of you and you get very weak.

I have never paid this much attention to my nails before. I also only have them on my thumbs and am sure that i have had them before. Very strange, must put that on the list for the doctor.

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Stress
uclangel422 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have encountered the same type of resistance from people who have other illnesses and from those who are well. They think that i am just mourning the loss of sandwiches or something. They dont understand why i can feel so depressed about this. But conversely I have found myself getting angry with people also, especially dieters. My sister is thin but... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Stress
uclangel422 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am also fairly new to this and went through the same shocked, shutdown feeling as you did a couple weeks ago. It was like everything started moving in slow motion or something, I really just wanted to leave work and lock myself in my room for a week and sleep. Eventually when you read more and start getting into the swing of things, it gets better. -

the pant buttoning thing is classic. The family just doesnt understand why you buy your pants a size bigger and look like a clown in the morning. -
ARCHIVED Then Last Item With Gluten You Ate...
uclangel422 replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Before i was diagnosed with celiac disease my doctor had me on a bland diet anyway, so i didnt get to have a last hurrah really. I think the last thing i had was Orange Chicken from Panda Express. If i would have known i would have to be gluten-free, i would have made it a philly cheesesteak with a side of pancakes or something extravagent. -
I am taking iron supplements for iron-deficiency anemia and have not had a good night sleep since starting them. I cannot fall asleep, stay asleep or get much refreshment from it. Has anyone experienced this before? I have been taking my iron after dinner because i need to take it with food, do you think this may be a problem also? Thanks!

ARCHIVED Cat Scan
uclangel422 replied to bklyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just had a CT with IV contrast two weeks ago and had to go through this whole thing about signing forms and basically swearing on my life that i was not allergic to shellfish. I live in California and did have to sign forms. I was so panicked before i had it but it was really not a big deal. If you even think that you might have a shellfish allergy,... -

you might be Celiac if... nobody will watch the Food Network with you anymore because you spend the entire show saying "well i cant eat that" or "that would kill me"
