ARCHIVED Why Do Some People Feel They *must* Have An Endoscopy?
DonnaMM replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Katrala, I agree with what you are saying about people feel to be official they must have the egd. I was one of those people. I had problems for years and accepted the fact when my doctors said it was not a food intolerance its just stress just live with it and get on with your life (the dr said those exact words) but once the pain got too bad I insisted... -
Yes be sure to determine what your doctor means by allergy to wheat. People often say celiac disease is an allergy when what what they are really referring to I the autoimmune intolerance some people experience when cosumig wheat. Symptoms of allergies include sneezing, difficulty breathing, vomiting and rashes. A gluten or wheat intolerance includes symptoms...

I don't know exactly what you meant by your comment regarding cancer medications, but I took that quite offensively. I am a cancer survivor myself and when I read your comment it made me feel like you think all cancer patients live poor lifestyles and think its ok if they get cancer cause the drugs will get rid of it all, just look at the cancer death rates... -

ARCHIVED I Just Want The Holidays To Be Over

I am sorry that your family is not as supportive that definitely makes it harder. I know it is not what you want but it appears your husband is more understanding of your dietary needs so you could just have a romantic thanksgiving dinner with the two of you. For the experience with my husband he is not too fond of family get togetheris and would rather it... -
ARCHIVED I Just Want The Holidays To Be Over

I don't know what job you have but I work as a nurse and purposely work thanksgiving (because that is the holiday where my family serves the most glutinous foods) as an excuse to get out of family dinner, but I know jot everyone has the ability. I assume because they are family they understand your medical needs. I would recommend asking your mom if you could... -
I don't know why I keep doing this to myself. I am struggling to accept the fact that I cannot handle gluten. I constantly keep eating gluten to try and see if I can handle to try and prove to myself that I can eat gluten without having the problems. Although it never works out. Does anyone have any ideas how I can stop doing this to myself?

ARCHIVED I'm Getting Allergy Tested!
DonnaMM replied to saintmaybe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are really concerned about being lactose intolerant I suggest asking your GI doctor to check it out. There is a lactose breath test that can be performed. It's pretty simple if I remember correctly you just drink something and at certain intervals they will have you breath into this machine and it checks to see if you are lactose intolerant. Not sure... -
ARCHIVED Diseases Associated With celiac disease

I have been reading a lot about the correlation with celiac disease and the autoimmune condition referred to as positive lupus anticoagulant syndrome (which can progress to antiphospholipid syndrome if a clinical event occurs). Does anyone else have this condition and have you notified improvment with the bruising with a gluten free lifestyle? -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Eye Floaters
DonnaMM replied to sleer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have floaters, I got one just before I went gluten free, it seems to be fading since I went gluten free, but the doctors say it will likely never go away -
ARCHIVED Gluten In My Thyroid Meds!
DonnaMM replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It literally makes me sick to my stomach the crap our government allows into our medications. I have celiac so I needed to evaulate and/or change all my medications (although my endocrinologist does not seem to think the gluten in my synthroid is a big deal) I disagree so I will just have my primary change it, but I hate that I have to check every medication... -
ARCHIVED I Think My GI Is An Idiot
DonnaMM posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I posted awhile ago about what the visual findings were on EGD that I had done. Now this doctor had a lot of stuff in front of him, my TIBC was elevated which means I have a little bit of anemia, and my serum osmolality was elevated, I assume I was dehydrated due to my chronic diarrhea. After the procedure he said looks like celiac, but then the biopsy came... -

ARCHIVED Nail Problems
DonnaMM replied to sariesue's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have the same problem! It drives me nuts my nails peel and won't grow, it's like my nails are paper. I take a hair skin and nails vitamin daily as well as a B complex but they do not seem to help. If you are really strict with your diet then I highly recommend you ask your PCP to check your TSH and freeT4 which will assess your thyroid function and check... -
I test negative for the disease but visually I have the disease and respond to the diet so he just wants to make sure that is the problem I can't do this for very longer though. I am dying!

I am kinda curious how long it takes others to feel the effects when they accidently take in gluten. My doctor wants to do some gluten challenges to confirm the diagnosis, but it seems like the cramping will start a few hours after I eat gluten, but the other symptoms such as severe pain and diarrhea take about two days. Anyone else have this long of a delay...

ARCHIVED Super Confused
DonnaMM replied to DonnaMM's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I only went back on gluten for two days prior to my biopsy but was on a full gluten diet for the blood work which of course was negative. I guess I will stick with the gluten free diet that seems to be my answer -
ARCHIVED Super Confused
DonnaMM posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So I just got the results of my biopsy. The doctor said the EGD had mucosal atrophy and blunted villi but the pathology came back negative for h pylori and celiac disease. I am very confused though, I respond very well to a gluten free diet, my tummy troubles pretty much disappeared and I had so much more energy. I have been thinking about could this possibly... -
The paper my gi gave me after the egd said that I have patchy atrophy of duodenal mucosa and blunted villi my proximal jejunum. I can't wait for the pathology does it sound like celiacs I just want my tummy troubles to end

I have been diagnosed with gluten senstivity, not quite celiacs yet but the doctors say it's likely it will develop. I was told to limit my gluten and was more than happy to do anything he said that would make my stomach troubles go away, within three days I felt soooo much. It's been about a month now and I am starting to get depressed over my new diet ...
