  1. Yep, this is a tricky subject. I have offered to bring something to every family gathering so that I will at least have SOMETHING to eat. I have also started inviting family over to my house where I do the cooking. It gives me a chance to show off my new culinary skills and spend time with family at the same time. If all else fails, your family will just...
  2. I has similar blood test results as you....high DGP IgA (89) and neg TTg. My gastro doc did a biopsy and it was negative, and he proclaimed me healed (even though I was still sick). I went to my rheumatologist and he took one look at the DGP and said "this is Celiac" and that biopsies should be outlawed because of how flawed they are for dx Celiac. He...
  3. I would request the actual lab results of the celiac panel they did on you. There is really no such thing as inconclusive test results. The docs that don't know enough about celiac say that when everything isn't positive on the panel like it's supposed to be. If you had mid-range ttg after being gluten-free for 4 weeks, you probably have celiac. Did they...
  4. Has your doc tested you for any other autoimmune diseases? I was dx with RA about 2 months after my Celiac dx. Your symptoms sound exactly like mine when I am having a flare. Sorry you are having a rough time! I would definitely get checked out by a rheumatologist.
  5. The DGP test is often positive before the TtG. Mine was 89 and my TtG was normal. My Endoscopy was normal, and my GI dismissed me....nothing wrong. My rheumatologist took one look at my DGP and said I had Celiac, no doubt. Biopsies are not accurate unless you have extensive intestinal damage or you get lucky and they happen to biopsy a bad spot. I have...
  6. For the life of me, I DO NOT understand why so many docs refuse to do a simple blood test to screen family members for Celiac when a 1st degree relative is positive!!!! It's not an expensive test, and it's non-invasive. Sure, there is a chance of false negatives in children, but why not do the test, including the genetic screen? No, the gene test is not...
  7. OMG! Have you looked into the possibility that this could be arsenic exposure? Here is a link.... Open Original Shared Link
  8. Which blood tests came back "weakly positive"? If it was the EMA or DGP, those are pretty specific for Celiac.
  9. This kind of doctor ignorance about Celiac is driving me CRAZY!!! You had a positive EMA and the GI doc is telling you you don't have Celiac?? WTF? Why are docs so hung up on biopsies??? The blood work, especially EMA and the DGP are VERY SPECIFIC for Celiac! What about that do they not get? It's like their ego gets in the way, no way can they dx someone...
  10. Yes, that would be tough. I would think regular follow-ups with your GI for blood tests would be sufficient to make sure your numbers stay in the normal range and you are not accidentally getting glutened on a regular basis.
  11. Your doc is right. Here you go.... Open Original Shared Link
  12. Why not have a Gluten Free Party? You could make a delicious gluten-free cake or cupcakes and celebrate a "new" healthy beginning? Most of the gluten-free cake mixes are really good, and the Betty Crocker devil's food is delicious! I would try to make it as positive of an experience as possible. Better to focus on what he CAN have rather than what he...
  13. When you say your thyroid levels have been in range, what levels are you referring to? If it's just the TSH that your doc is checking, that level can be normal when in fact your free T3 and/or T4 are off. Many docs also go by the old reference range of anything under 4.5 or 5 being normal. Several years ago, the reference range was lowered to 3 being the...
  14. I feel congrats are in order! Go you! That was fast, too! Amazing!
  15. Hey, Suz, I thought I would chime in on the hysterectomy thing. I am currently going thru something very similar. I have been having bouts of very heavy bleeding and I am having a D&C (to rule out cancer) and an endometrial ablation (to burn off my uterine lining) next week. If the D&C comes back abnormal, then I will have to have a hysto. But...
  16. Those blood tests results are screaming positive for Celiac! If she is positive for the endomysial anitgen, that's pretty much 100% specific for Celiac disease. "Simplification" is another way of saying blunted (simplify: To reduce in complexity or extent). If villi are simplified, they are reduced in size, i.e blunted. Sorry if I sound harsh...
  17. This, exactly. Every. Single. Word. Also, you have no right to deny your kids a mother over a freaking dinner roll. Once you choose to bring childen into this world, it's not about you anymore. Your kids need to have a mom, who is as healthy as she can be! You need to fight this demon that is keeping you from accepting your dx, and move on with it...
  18. I used to live in Memphis (now in Chicago), and Dr. Wooten was my GI doc! I saw him about 10 years ago for chronic gastritis. He did my first endoscopy and colonoscopy! When all he found was some minor inflamation in my stomach, he gave me a script for Prolosec and Prozac and sent me on my way. I never did find a good GI doc there (or up here, not...
  19. ((Marilyn))....I am so sorry about your dog. I lost my very first "baby" at the ripe old age of 13 on my birthday this year (nice timing, eh?). It's so hard to lose our furbabies....
  20. Wow! I had no idea that the rules for dog food labeling were different than human food. That seems very misleading, doesn't it? Apparently it's gluten-free enough for my dog, but I would be very upset if I thought I was feeding her pure gluten free chow and it actually wasn't.
  21. So my dog, Hannah, a 10 year old mix breed began having these weird skin irritations a few years ago. They would come and go, vet thought it was allergies, we tried EVERYTHING from steroids to antihistamines and nothing worked. She would lick the pads of her feet until they would bleed. She would scratch her ears and face until she would bleed. She had...
  22. Hilarious!! Before I was dx'ed, I actually developed agoraphobia because of an intense fear that I would have to poo and I wouldn't find a bathroom in time. We didn't eat out for 2 years (it usually hit me after a meal)! Anyway, I found the bumper sticker online.... Open Original Shared Link
  23. You say that your thyroid levels are normal....have you had ALL of your thyroid hormones checked? Many docs will only test your TSH and not free T4 and T3. Your TSH can be "normal", but your T4 and T3 can be low. Additionally, many docs go by the old reference range for TSH (upper limit of 4.5 or 5 being normal), but in 2003 the American Association...
  24. I am soooo going to try this!!!
