  1. Don't worry! I was scared too, but this is what happened (using "conscious sedation"): I was wheeled into the room where they do their business and I said to the nurse, "Okay, I've got this anxiety disorder.. and I'm kinda claustrophobic.." He smiled and said, "You sound like everybody else My job is to make sure that you are absolutely comfortable...

    ARCHIVED Dating

I currently have a boyfriend - but he was being a real loser when I first found out about this. A few weeks ago, he totally did *not* understand and was absolutely not there for me when I needed him. Saying "This is not a big deal! It's just food!" when I would cry & various other stupid things. He has since changed though - dramatically - and has...
  3. Anyone is welcome to a copy. Please email me if you'd like one. Another thing that I think will be enormously helpful is a letter that my doctor wrote that I'm including with the info. It says: To the family Members of Michelle Larsen: Michelle was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease, a genetic disorder with a number of long term complications...
  4. I would highly suggest *not* eating wheat to expand the possibilities of what you can eat - especially if you have been diagnosed with celiac in the past! Try expanding your diet with anything but that! I know it's rough - I can't eat gluten, dairy, eggs, sesame seeds - etc. - *and* I have candida so I'm trying to avoid sweets too! Please check this...
  5. Yes!! L-Glutamine is safe to take. I actually wrote a letter to Jarrow asking them about their l-glutamine and was assured that it was gluten free. However - Jarrow kicks butt! - and their l-glutamine is pharmaceutical grade. I wouldn't buy it from anyone else anyway You can get it cheap at webvitamins.com. And *everybody* with problems with their...
  6. YES! Ginger is pretty amazing stuff! But you have to get quality ginger or else it doesn't do much. I've had great results with New Chapter ginger supplements - particularly the Gingiforce Ginger Extract. It's been enormously helpful for me with gas & those other fun things. If I have it - I always be sure to take it if I'll be eating beans! ...
  7. Because so many people are having trouble with nausea and dramamine worked so well for me in the past when I had trouble (because of cysts rupturing & other fun stuff) I wrote to them to find out if it's gluten free. Here's their response: (Warning: It isn't pretty!) Dear Michelle: Thank you for your interest in Dramamine. We...
  8. Stephanie - Thanks for your input! I remember your rough time - and that's part of what made me wonder if I'd been "glutened" - I'm glad you are feeling better now! I am also feeling much better now, and wondering if I just need to be more careful. I'm kind of confused about this whole thing though - what is "residual intestinal damage depression...
  9. Hello My doctor (who is *awesome*) just sent me this link to the gastroenterology journal for April 2005. All of the articles are free to view (not just abstracts). It is obviously very up to date too (well, as of April! ) Here is a list of articles: National Institutes of Health consensus development conference statement on celiac disease...
  10. I don't think too highly of Reliv. My parents tried it for a while and it didn't do anything for them. Also - if you look at the nutritional content on the products, it's not too impressive. You could get most of the ingredients from a weak multivitamin. Here is a link to the Reliv homepage where you can access the list of ingredients: Open...
  11. Thanks Heather!
  12. Thanks for being so understanding guys. It means a lot. Ianm - How long did your depression last after you were gluten-free? Tiffany - I don't think this is habit-style depression (though I know what you mean). It's more of a quick kick to the floor type of depression. I'll be fine one day and then *bam!* - I start saying that...

    ARCHIVED Grrrr....

When they wave their gluten foods in front of you and say, "oh, this is so yummy - but you can't have it, can you?" I think the best thing to do is say, "Nope, but I'm doing good. I don't need the empty calories and fat anyway." Then look them up and down s l o w l y... Smile. And walk away (muahahahahahaha! ) - Michelle
  14. Hello. There's a thread currently running about feeling worse before feeling better - but I think that's more concerned with the "typical" GI symptoms associated with celiac disease. I want to know if it's the same for emotional struggles. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm really interested in hearing from people who have had their most significant...
  15. If I were you, I would eat a high gluten diet until the tests. It's called the "gluten challenge" where you eat something with gluten in it at every meal - and also have grains for snacks (cookies, crackers, whatever). I think that since you've only been gluten-free for one week, this short time might be enough time to get things back to abnormal I...
  16. For me, the depression is the biggest symptom I have when I eat gluten. The crazy thing is - I just found this out Throughout my life I have struggled with depression/anxiety but didn't think there was any real reason for it (besides going through some rough times and having some difficult memories). But when I did the "gluten challenge" before my endoscopy...
  17. Hello. Welcome to the forum Okay, need more info! What blood test did you have? I'm guessing that since your doctor wants you to see a gastro to confirm the diagnosis, it was a pretty important one! tTG perhaps? If that test came back positive, it's 95-100% accurate that you have celiac disease. Also, I think it's pretty crucial...
  18. Here's a little research I just found regarding an enzyme that supposedly can "neutralize" celiac disease. (I'll stick in the main parts and put the link at the end ) In the September 27 issue of Science, Chaitan Khosla and his coworkers at Stanford University and the University of Norway in Oslo, report disassembling the large, complex mixture of...
  19. Have to agree with Tiffany on this one!! I worked in a health food store and people used to do a similar thing with vitamins - holding the bottle against their chest then closing their eyes and if their body *mysteriously* started to lean forward - the vitamin was supposed to be something their body needed. Give me a break! I *don't* believe in...
  20. It sounds like a wheat allergy to me - but I think that wheat allergies & celiac often go together! (Of course, I'm no doctor! ) Here is a really good information page on food allergies & sensitivities: Open Original Shared Link Definitely find out about the allergy though! They typically worsen over time and you might find yourself...
  21. Here is a whole list of articles regarding the health problems associated with soy: Open Original Shared Link I was actually drinking soy milk quite a lot until I found this stuff. Kinda scary! Try almond milk It's yummy! - Michelle
  22. Ann - You have a great attitude!! I love it! As for how positive you will be in a few months... well, I'm not sure because I haven't been doing this for a few months yet But, after just a couple of weeks I am already feeling better about things Maybe it's because I am eating healthier - or maybe it's because the fatigue has lifted so much...
  23. Ann - Welcome I'm sorry that you have to deal with the stress of finding out about this now - but think of how much healthier you will be able to be when you are putting the right stuff in your body! I just found out a couple of weeks ago, and it was rough for me. But I realized the other day that (since I've probably had this -actively- since...
  24. Here's what I'm talking about: (from the link Open Original Shared Link ) "Now we come to what to me is the most interesting of the recent research regarding celiac. It seems fitting that the research again comes from Holland , where celiac disease was first linked to diet. Dr. Nieuwenhuizen, from the research group TNO Nutrition and Food Research...
  25. Turtle, I posted this link a while ago connecting celiac & candida. Here is the important section: "Now we come to what to me is the most interesting of the recent research regarding celiac. It seems fitting that the research again comes from Holland , where celiac disease was first linked to diet. Dr. Nieuwenhuizen, from the research group...
