ARCHIVED Found Something For Inflammation
UKGail replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi everyone. I've only just picked up on this thread as I haven't been active for a while. I'll be shortly heading to the store to pick up some nettle tea to test out... Inflammation is definitely a problem for me. Before I went gluten free I had no celiac antibodies, but did have a very high ESR (100), and a few other blood abnormalities including a... -
ARCHIVED When Did Your Neuro Symptoms Subside
UKGail replied to ker0pi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I found the worst of the forgetfulness and inability to focus improved within a couple of months. I can now shower in the morning without having to really think hard about whether I have just rinsed shampoo or conditioner out of my hair. However, after nearly a year, I am still forgetful about shopping lists etc, and it is still a struggle to focus properly... -
ARCHIVED Fibromyalgia And Chronic Pain - Anyone Else?
UKGail replied to PennyH's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It might just take more time than you think. When I saw a rheumatologist I think he was minded to diagnose fibromyalgia, as I leapt in the air when he tested the fibro sensitive points, all of them. I think he saw that I was underwhelmed by this idea. Ditto IBS with a gastroenterologist. Apparently I don't have celiac....They were both right that I dislike... -
ARCHIVED Fibromyalgia And Chronic Pain - Anyone Else?
UKGail replied to PennyH's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Love2travel - I admire your attitude so much. It takes great strength of mind to push severe pain to one side and get on with living life to the full. I am really sorry to hear that you still haven't experienced any improvement in your pain. For me, gluten seemed to cause systemic inflammation which then squeezed any weak or damaged areas of my body (I... -
ARCHIVED Fibromyalgia And Chronic Pain - Anyone Else?
UKGail replied to PennyH's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Penny - I lived with chronic fatigue and low grade pain, mainly in my back, for 25 years, following the sudden onset of what I now know to be celiac-like symptoms when I was a student. The doctor called it post viral fatigue, but with hindsight I doubt it was that. Over the years the pain worsened and I gradually developed chronic headache/migraines, severe... -
I usually haven't eaten anything for 24 to 48 hours after a glutening, and have gastric pain and irritability as well as lower abdominal pain and soreness. I've learned the hard way to reintroduce food very carefully for a few days. I can't do any sort of regular food, or it just goes straight through. I stick initially to homemade vegetable soup using...

Bartfull - I don't have problems with corn that I am aware of, other than sweetcorn kernels being the last thing still to go right through me. I've been thinking about the preservatives that Mamaw mentioned and have been looking into sulphites. This seems to tally quite well with my symptoms which I get on eating a wide range of mainly processed foods,...

Thanks for the thoughts. I am not sure it was a bacterial problem as a glutening for me involves a migraine, and the symptoms are quite distinctive. This time was no different. A preservative being a contributory factor is something to consider. I am pretty sure that soy is a minor trigger for me, so it is not a stretch to think that chemical preservatives...

I cooked supper for a friend and myself the other day. The following day I had all the usual symptoms of a glutening. The only thing I did different was serving a ready-prepared bag of green salad with supper, and ready-chopped fruit salad for dessert. This is the first time I had eaten ready-prepared fresh food since going gluten free. Having recovered...

I can't imagine how crappy that this for you. I get sore sinuses, drippy nose, stomach ache and loose stools for a day or so just from sitting at a table with bread close by for the wheat eaters, or if I spend more than a few short moments petting my wheat pellet eating chinchilla followed by thorough hand washing. To be surrounded by wheat fields, especially...

ARCHIVED Still Constipated!
UKGail replied to Skittles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A couple of weeks ago I had a session with a dietitian who works closely with my gastroenterologist, who is a celiac specialist. She said something which I have not read anywhere else, and I read as much as I can get my hands on. Basically she said that fibre from fruit and vegetables is all very well, but that the digestive tract specifically needs cereal... -
Hi Mommida, Ravenwoodglass and Cara. Thank you for your supportive replies. Unfortunately because I live in the UK none of the others in my family have been gene tested (I am lucky enough to have access to private medicine, which is the only reason I was able to get it done). I think that in theory GPs can order the gene test, but in practice they...

Hi there. I went gluten fee back in September at the suggestion of a rheumatologist who was inclined to think I didn't have a connective tissue disease as thought by my GP(suggested polymyalgia rheumatica), and who I convinced that if it wasn't that, then it was a gluten issue, despite negative antibody tests. Well, the gluten free diet fixed the symptoms...

ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge Not That Bad
UKGail replied to skbird's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I finished a 2 week gluten challenge just over a week ago. After suffering from a worsening of headaches, body aches, stomach aches and severe fatigue just from exposure to gluten being cooked or toasted around me, while I was gluten free and recovering, I was really nervous about about doing a challenge. The first week was ok, with just abdominal pain... -
Having had a negative celiac blood test and endoscopy a couple of years ago, my GP sent me to a rheumatologist specialising in lupus thinking that I had another autoimmune disease. After lots more blood tests, including repeat celiac panel, it came back to looking at a gluten sensitivity again for lack of other plausible alternatives. Trialling a gluten...

So sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis. I understand how you feel about this but, like other posters, think that life is definitely worth living, even with either or both of these disabilities. You are both starting on your journey learning how to manage them, which will ensure that you will both eventually make fine parents to any children you...

ARCHIVED Question About Gluten Challenge
UKGail replied to Brittany85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi - I've just seen this and am wondering how you all got on with your gluten challenges? I have just started mine after 6 months gluten free. A new GI, who is a celiac specialist, wants to do an endoscopy and colonoscopy quickly to see what's going on, so I only have to stick it for 2 weeks. Not hopeful of a positive diagnosis after that time, particularly... -
ARCHIVED Pernicious Anemia Caused By Gluten/celiac ?
UKGail replied to Sanjoseguy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sanjoseguy Sorry to say, your tiredness is probably due to your body being in recovery mode. I was also deathly tired and weak for the first two months or so, although I was feeling much better otherwise. Even 6 months on, fatigue is still an issue for me, although my recovery has been slower than many experience because I had been unwell for a long... -
ARCHIVED Still Learning
UKGail replied to SarahJimMarcy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is a woman in our local support group who arrives in a wheelchair. As newbie to the group the only thing I know is that she is under the care of a respected neurologist, who thinks her problems are probably linked to celiac. He is apparently trying to get her walking again, and is not neccessarily anticipating a successful outcome. I'm afraid I don... -
So pleased you like them, and that they like you. I love them too.

For me, I'm not sure I would describe it as "buzzing", but rather pressure like not being able to clear your ears after a change in atmospheric pressure. If I notice any buzzing it seems to be secondary to my ears hurting in this way. I have chronic sinus pain, so I guess it might be linked to this issue. I take anti-histamines to keep it under control...

Hi Carpe I've only just seen your post. Your symptoms are fairly similar to mine. I wouldn't have said that major mood swings was my number one symptom, but it was definitely part of the mix. I rather find mood swings are worse now if I get glutened, rather than before I went gluten free. My major symptoms were migraine and chronic joint and muscle pain...

My gastro symptoms are fairly mild. I used to get a lot of gas, pain and mucus(either on its own or with loose stools) prior going gluten free. Now, if I get glutened, I still get the gas and the pain, but I get D instead of mucus, followed by C for a while. Seems to be a case of swings and roundabouts! Sorry about the itchy rash. Not a fun place for...

ARCHIVED Problems Maintaining A gluten-free Diet With A Busy Schedule
UKGail replied to Rhabdoviridae's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Can you batch cook stews and soups at the weekend and either keep them in the fridge or the freezer for use during the week. You can even pre-cook rice and potatoes to some extent too. You could then heat some soup or a casserole to take with you in an insulated flask for lunch. They will also give you a quick dinner and even breakfast too. Can you... -
7 or 8 months? Thank you for saying this IH. I am still battling with these symptoms 6 months in. It's nice to know it might yet settle down. Sorry to butt in on this thread. The OP is getting some good advice from you all.
