  1. How true! Then I don't EVEN want to get into what they do to potatoes to make them last without sprouting. And many other fruits & vegs. Bout time to start growing our own.
  2. Bubba's Mom, do you eat a lot of brown rice? The news about the energy bars containing high amounts of arsenic got me to researching. Read this: Open Original Shared Link Plus I read that the brown rice syrup used to sweeten the energy bars is full of arsenic. Brown rice is the worst with arsenic because the arsenic is mostly deposited in the brown...
  3. Let's hope you keep getting better! If you want to hasten it along though you may consider the low iodine & see what it does for you. I have found that it begins making my dh better in 3-4 days. Yes, it's a hassle but it's better than itching like a demon & the lesions begin to heal faster also. You can try it just for say 1 week to get you down the...
  4. Are you saying you have been gluten-free 20 years & now you have dh? Did you get accidentally glutened recently?
  5. Aly, you are very kind to offer such to Bubba's Mom!
  6. You know, I can't even count how many times in the last year or so that I have had friends or heard stories of their family or friends who had problems which were weird & turned out to be caused by cholesterol meds. One woman was at a fast food place with her grand kids when she just fainted out of the clear blue ~~~ cholesterol med. One man who was eerily...
  7. (((HUGS))) I have been so worried about you. I don't know what to even say. I was sure you would get some kind of answers. How long can this go on? Maybe the doc in Mn. can help. But I tell you I would try Aly's Dr, House if this doesn't work or maybe even before the Dr. in Mn. So sad.
  8. YVW. It still leaves a lot of questions but it answers a lot too. My thinking is this: We are getting a LOT more iodine daily than we think. The US recommended daily minimum for iodine is 150 mcg. If you take even the lowest figures for 1-8 oz. glass of milk & add cheese, yogurt, butter, PLUS the iodine naturally occurring in food, even if they aren...
  9. I read that also Diane.
  10. eatmeat4good, I checked online for the Walgreen's pain relieving ointment & they didn't have it. I don't have a Walgreen's very near me so I was going to order it online. When was the last time you bought it?
  11. eatmeat4good ~~~~ CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!! 1 year & 4 mos. is a looooong time but you DID it. How good does it feel not to have a single sore? GOOD FOR YOU!
  12. I thought I would post these links pertaining to iodine levels in dairy products since there is so much discussion about the subject & so many of us are dealing with having to lower our iodine intake to make the dh calm down. First, I will say that different methods are used by different dairy farmers to disinfect the teats of the cows both before milking...
  13. Also, it will take a while for things to start clearing up. We are all different in the time it takes. I wish you rapid healing. And be careful. Gluten lurks in many places out there.
  14. I drink Kern's Apricot nectar & it's fine for me. I think all the Kern's stuff is probably okay but all you have to do is read the ingredients. But don't go for anything with strawberry as I remember strawberries are high in iodine content. Of course I remembered that AFTER I got some strawberry/banana yogurt. I'm back doing low iodine myself as a result...
  15. Thanks ciamarie for remembering about the Orajel. I can't believe I forgot to mention it! It really, really does work! I might not slather it on very large areas such as an entire leg but I do use it on spots. And it certainly help with getting sleep!
  16. Well you came to the right place for understanding! You know what to do though. Gluten free is the key. Biopsy or no biopsy or neg. biopsy. You have celiac you need to be gluten free. Read the posts on this dh forum. You're going to have to eliminate gluten from your topical products as well as your food. Make sure meds & OTC stuff contains no gluten...
  17. Thanks WF but I wasn't testing ~~~ I just forgot to think the whole d&%$ thing through to consideration of cc. And darned if it didn't hit me worst in my scalp. I can use the Oragel to stop the itch everywhere else but the scalp is kinda funny you know? You don't want to get seen in public with grease all in your hair. Arrrrgggghhhhhhhhhh! And believe...
  18. It's wonderful to hear you are doing so well! Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately I am not. I went strict gluten free Nov. 24th, 2011 & iodine free also to help speed things up. It was working great. Then I got a little lax on the iodine. My multivitamins had 25% RDA in them plus I added a few whole eggs & some cheese. I felt I might be pushing...
  19. Thank you very much & also for the quick reply. I think you thought it out quite well & it doesn't offend anyone. I too like to make people aware of celiac disease & gluten & soy & so forth. I always think it might help them or a member of their family one day or even a friend of theirs. Because you just never know.
  20. Korwyn, I would dearly love to read your spiel you give guests which gets the point across. We have not had any guests as yet since i went gluten free slightly over 2 months ago but I have been racking my brain for what exactly to tell people the first time it comes up. I keep trying to think what will really get the point across.
  21. Not to mention that dog's are allergic to gluten. So the dog shouldn't have them.
  22. You are SO right zippitty! My hubby had bladder cancer & ACOR has a website with all the different cancer types & forums like this for each. We would have been lost without it. And I would have been lost & struggling without this site. And congratulations on being a survivor! You got through that; you will be able to get through this. It can...
  23. The only GI symptom I had was bloat ~~~ which could be attributed to almost anything so...... But once I went gluten free it got MUCH better & then I found out through this forum that soy could be a contributor. Soy gone, bloat gone. I was 54 before my 1st major, big bad, whopper of an outbreak of dh happened. Up until that time I had 1,2,3, tiny blisters...
  24. So tell us how good it was or wasn't. Rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 if you can. I know sometimes it isn't that simple rating things.
  25. We are all wishing the very best for you on your trip & hoping the doctors are brilliant & give you the answers you need to get you back on track to healing for once & for all. Hang in there. You're probably shaky in part with anticipation & not a little anxiety. It won't be long now. You'll no doubt be pretty busy while you're there but give...
