The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
As I talked to my oldest daughter this week it dawned on me to ask her about her robot team. I remembered her mentioning the first time she was going was on my birthday, which was Jan. 5. She is getting more and more excited now every time she talks about it as there is about a month left. So seeing your little pic every day it finally clicked and I asked... -
ARCHIVED Starfish Battered Fish
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is a store brand of ice cream with a billion ingredients, which I normally wouldn't eat. But it looked good and I read the label like 10 times. I know the manufacturer takes every precaution to prevent CC and so in the cart it went. It doesn't have cake pieces, which is probably the only reason it is gluten free. After reading like 2 dozen ice cream labels... -
ARCHIVED Starfish Battered Fish
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Psh... I don't know. The only thing it seems to have in it is fish. I suppose I could go get myself a bowl of tiramisu ice cream for dessert and go check. K, I went to check. (and get ice cream) It has corn flour, rice flour, both gums and some spices and crap. I have a REALLY short memory and am in far too much pain to walk it down the stairs and back... -

Hope he's feeling better soon. I had a lot of rough times with that when my oldest was a baby and toddler so I know how stressful it is for everyone, which certainly doesn't help. Tonight I had battered fish and fried green beans. My day did not go at all as planned and by dinner time cooking was not on the agenda. -
ARCHIVED Starfish Battered Fish
Adalaide posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The one frozen thing that always catches my eye at the store is fish. Since I still buy filets and such I end up seeing if they have any gluten free goodies. I noticed a while ago that one of the local stores started carrying Starfish battered halibut and cod that were gluten free. Sure to be disappointed I picked up a box and read that they are also peanut... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Microwave Frozen Meals

A glass of wine is just grapes that have gotten better with age. Much like many of us have. Of course some of us get better after a glass of wine too. And I'm still glad you said something. When I do my shopping at 300 grocery stores trip I'll see what I can dig up. (Okay, it is only 5/6 but it feels like 300 some days!)- 38 replies

ARCHIVED gluten-free Microwave Frozen Meals
Adalaide replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
These look interesting. A few have soy, a few don't so if I can find them around here I could try them and see how I like them. I've had to give up almost everything processed at this point because on top of soy I have had to entirely cut out MSG which is apparently in everything. The website says that they're at one of the local health food stores, but...- 38 replies

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

I might have eaten about half of the angel food cake I made in about a day. I also had no regrets. It was just there, staring at me every time I went to the kitchen. And when I wasn't in the kitchen it was there, calling to me, reminding me that it was amazingly delicious and needing to be eaten. What could I do but comply? Those Oreo things are really... -

Yeah, I couldn't resist submitting. Reading all those stories was inspiring. Plus I got me a really great guy! We had salads tonight with chicken and mushrooms and a little cheese. Very easy, but yummy. -
ARCHIVED Alternative For Mayonnaise?

Have you tried something soy free? Lots of people have soy problems and you could simply need a soy free mayo replacement. -

Then there are these, the things that are so joyous that they bring us tears and laughter and memories of a lifetime. I'm actually so happy for you I cried a little. Enjoy your time and I'm sure we'll all be happy to hear more about your awesome vacation when you have a spare... -

I also thought that the Mrs. Leeper's cheeseburger mac was okay. It wasn't awesome, and I only ended up buying it once because my husband didn't particularly like it. I can't have it right now because of the yeast, but maybe again sometime. It is pretty salty, but I have a thing for salt and other than that the flavor isn't bad. As a quick and easy meal it... -

Four years. Yay! It is impossible to imagine the moment it happens that down the road we'll be celebrating hearing it. Yet here we all are, happy as freshly slopped pigs. Tonight I have a little ham I yanked outta the freezer to cook up. I'll make some roasted red potatoes with it and maybe some corn. Gravy is definitely on the list. And hey, it was... -

Frying them? That is brilliant!!! OMG I know what's for breakfast. Oh, and I'll bet any old milk type thing and fake cheese would work for people who are into that sort of thing. -

Lentils sound yummy! I haven't had any in a while, I think I'll make a lentil loaf this week. Glad that you can have them. And now you have a weapon of war too. Thanks for the idea. It isn't just getting back foods, but celiac in general makes you appreciate the little things. Every little food. Every little activity. Every last win and victory we have... -
ARCHIVED Non-Food Uses Of Wheat - This Terrifies Me
Adalaide replied to MJ-S's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The difference between corn and wheat plastic is that with corn plastic, they make it with the food part of corn. The part you, and many others, have a problem with. With wheat plastic, it is made from wheat straw, the leftovers after harvesting the food, which contains no gluten and which would pose no risk to any of us. Taking the time to understand the... -

I wouldn't have resisted creme brulee myself. It is a vacation after all. Today was supposed to be my last day babysitting, as the little guy was starting at a daycare to get some social skills. He spent the day home instead. I have burnt myself out getting his stuff all packed up for his mom to pick up so instead of pizza leftover for lunch tomorrow... -
ARCHIVED Non-Food Uses Of Wheat - This Terrifies Me
Adalaide replied to MJ-S's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The gluten in wheat isn't going to be in plastic. It just doesn't work that way. When it comes to biodegradable plastic made with wheat, it is made with wheat straw, which doesn't contain the heads of the wheat, which is where the gluten is. It is just a way to use up an otherwise useless byproduct that is completely harmless to us. Will the occasional head... -
ARCHIVED Non-Food Uses Of Wheat - This Terrifies Me
Adalaide replied to MJ-S's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A lot of these uses are things I don't worry about. So what if it is used to glue paper grocery bags together? I don't lick paper grocery bags. Any groceries I bring home are either in their own packages, or produce, even if it falls out of the plastic bag it is in will be washed before use because there are far more dangerous things on it than gluten. Many... -
ARCHIVED Breakfast Food/breads Question
Adalaide replied to BELMO33's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you find Krusteaz waffles they're pretty good. I wouldn't buy frozen pancakes since they're so easy to make. Either from scratch or the mixes are generally pretty decent too. I can't recommend Bisquick for breakfast foods, but it is awesome for impossible pies. Other than that though I haven't run into a pancake/waffle mix I haven't liked. By far though... -
ARCHIVED Undeclared Artificial Sweeteners In Milk

Open Original Shared Link Saw this today. I'm kinda freaked out. This is all sorts of not ok. I took the opportunity to comment on the FDA website about how moronic this is. I think we all should. -

We're having pizza for our anniversary tonight. Nothing fancy or anything, we're just too much in love with pizza. He'll order out and I'll make my own. Well, sort of. I still have 2 Venice crusts in the freezer. Five years and I'm still madly in love and he's still hilarious. Don't tell him though, I keep the eyerolls coming to keep him on his toes with... -
ARCHIVED Hot Wings Tonight Fried Or Baked
Adalaide replied to sharese28's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If the fryer has been used for gluten items it is never safe to fry. In that case baking is always the safer option. If you have your own fryer though that is 100% gluten free, you can safely fry as much as you want without any ill effects as far as gluten goes. As for your pants fitting? That is entirely another story. -
ARCHIVED Bad Reaction To Gluten Free Food @ Wendy's
Adalaide replied to sharese28's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I always get a baked potato when I go to Wendy's. Karen is right on the money on how to order it. Unopened, with everything on the side in packages, and making sure they understand you have a specific problem, such as an allergy. I also just say allergy at Wendy's because we aren't exactly dealing with the highest common denominator when we're talking to... -

Tiramisu? Can I come to your house?!? Ok, so the whole pizza quesadilla thing was a whim. I wasn't sure it would work but I mean, what can't you put between two corn tortillas and fry? So, pizza sauce, pizza blend of cheese and diced pepperonis. I was worried it would be meh, or worse. Instead it is awesome! It is like a little mini thin crust pizza....
