  1. I've been completely out of stamina lately. Even knowing how much more important this week was, being Easter weekend, people being away for vacation, and how short on volunteers they would be, there was no way I could rally through the pain and fatigue this morning. The bright side is, when I went and picked up my stuff there were three beautiful zucchinis...
  2. Julissa, I would never ask a pharmacist to check for me. I once had a pharmacist tell me "gluten isn't one of the ingredients on the label" and I think I actually put my face into my hand and shook my head because of how dumbfounded I was. I ask them to tell me what manufacturer they would fill with and then call the manufacturer myself. I think sometimes...

    ARCHIVED Legumes

I simply rinse mine. I have no problems.
  4. I get reminder calls from Walgreens about my prescription. Every time I go to pick it up I annoy the heck out of them. I always say "can you just verify the manufacturer for me, I need to make sure it didn't change." I'm sure that it is annoying, but I need to know. I always feel a little stupid though. Tonight I found out that it isn't stupid at all and...
  5. There is more than one report that proves that the tests most commonly used for gluten do not accurately detect barley gluten. This has been a hot topic with the "gluten free" beer thing, since they are using only that test and not a test that would accurately detect the barley gluten. This is the same case here. Keep in mind, that Mike's is made with barley...
  6. I saw this and thought I would share in case anyone needs a chuckle today. (I tried chasing down the actual origin of this but kept finding a "thanks to ___" and gave up.)
  7. Ugh.... the tyramine is this whole pseudotumor "thing" where I make too much brain fluid if I eat too much tyramine and then it pushes on my left eye and I can't see. It is really stupid. I explained functional medicine to my husband in terms of a broken arm. No doctor would dream of giving someone with a broken arm a bottle of pain pills and sending...
  8. I freeze cookies, but I only freeze things that are not from box mixes. I find them to be grainier than made from scratch baked goods are, right from the get go. I haven't had a problem with my cookies. My Christmas cookies are coming out of the freezer still just as good last week as they were Christmas day. I have yet to try this with pancakes or waffles...
  9. Burgers tonight for dinner. I didn't make it to dropping my Jeepy off, I'll do that later. I just don't have the stamina today for a bus ride. I will though find the stamina to make arepas for the burgers. I also have a little asparagus left to use up and I suppose I'll let my husband have actual french fries tonight. All deep fried and bad for him.
  10. I have four years of proof on my shelf that an entire clinic of doctors called me a headcase instead of even attempting to treat me. I am still trying to get my head on straight after this. I can't sleep and am still so angry I don't know how to begin to deal with it. Apparently I'm so bats$#& crazy I'm making myself physically ill and should see a shrink...
  11. No one will blame you for blaming doctors a little bit. When you see a person more often then the doctor they are spending 5 minutes with, you just know things sometimes. I wish doctors would freaking learn to listen and not think that they can diagnose any disease in 10 seconds flat. On a brighter note, I managed a quick and easy dinner to night of butter...
  12. My last appointment with my regular doctor ended with me feeling like he was really just trying to drug me up. I was frustrated and frankly, pissed off, but waited to see my neuro before I did anything else. That was a bust, and I just decided to find a doctor who didn't make me feel like every appointment was more difficult than putting my head through a...
  13. I'm glad you have an answer, and will send prayers and happy/healing thoughts. Hope things are otherwise well over there.
  14. It is normal for oatmeal to cause that problem for some people. I know this may seem like a stupid question, but was it certified gluten free oatmeal? If not, there is no way to know if the reaction was the oatmeal or gluten.
  15. This is what I am sick of also. I am not a string of symptoms. I do not need to be drugged up with dangerous or expensive drugs for one symptom at a time until there are so many side effects that I am sicker than I was the first time I went in or until I am on so many things that more can't be added because of interaction problems. But this is exactly what...
  16. I also have fibro and tried both Cymbalta and Lyrica for it and neither helped. I appreciate the tip, but have no interest in wasting another $40 a month on drugs that didn't help then as I am quite sure they won't again. My fibro is much better controlled gluten free. I've been on Neurontin a month but have begun to lose hope that it will do anything for...
  17. I used to work in a Domino's, and I have spoken to more than one local store about it. The same screens are used for the gluten and non gluten pizzas and are not cleaned in between, and as a matter of fact are of a type that are not capable of being cleaned in a way that would be safe to prevent CC. Also, no one in Domino's "makes" dough as the dough for...
  18. Glad your mom is cooperating. Hopefully she'll stick with it. And yes, dinner is better when someone else makes it. I am happier not thinking about the doctor. I have started making appointments with every doctor in a 10 mile radius who takes my insurance. Some appointments are as far out as July, but I am desperate and if I find answers before then I...
  19. So I saw the neuro this morning. I mentioned to him that there was an issue my doctor wanted me to discuss with him. (I figured saying it that way, which also happened to be true, would make him more receptive.) him: So what seems to be the issue? me: My doctor says I present with many symptoms of CRPS but wanted me to discuss it with you. him: CRPS...
  20. I eat the lime popcorn without issues. It is possible you have a problem with another ingredient, people have a tendency to blame gluten first thing instead of looking at possible other issues or intolerances.
  21. I have had no problems at all with Annie's. I have had problems with other brands in the past, but never with theirs. I do always double check when grabbing a box, they have three types of mac & cheese: Annie's, Annie's Organic, and Annie's Gluten Free. Do not ever mistake the organic for gluten free, which is insanely easy to do as some stores keep them...
  22. Oh you are a riot. You sound like me when something goes horribly wrong in the kitchen. Gratz on the new bike! My condolences to your hubby. And hopefully your mom will get over her stubborn pride before she hurts herself. I am up way too early for me. But, the good news is I see my neuro today and will hopefully get a firm CRPS label and some actual...
  23. All this creativity! Boring old boringness at my house tonight. Taco encores and banana dessert quesadillas. I have more bananas from this produces basket thing than I can shake a stick at and there is only so much banana bread a girl can eat.
  24. I have been told when calling a company that because of manufacturing processes they didn't consider the OTC product to be gluten free and certainly recommended I not take it.
  25. Peeps are my Easter go to and Mike & Ike are my year round standard. Peeps are awesome in hot chocolate for after a morning in the snow too! I've also been known in a weak moment to grab Starburst in the check out line. (I know, I act 5 sometimes, but my mom can't stop me so neener.) They aren't super Eastery but they're bright and colorful and they probably...
