  1. I've eaten all sorts of Jello products without issue. I have since taken to making my own pudding, but when I need something portable will still resort to Jello cups.
  2. I don't know how you guys do it, I would be completely criminally insane. Don't get me wrong, I refuse to live where it doesn't snow. I demand snow for both Christmas and my birthday. But by this time of year, I expect green grass, flowers, gardening, short sleeve weather and generally to have winter long behind me.
  3. I was doing one of those things where you click a link, then another and another and another and pretty soon you are looking at stuff completely unrelated to what you started looking at. Well, I randomly found a recipe for a dough for dumplings. Potstickers or dumplings were always a must when I ordered Chinese take out so I'm pretty excited. I can't do the...
  4. I pulled my frozen meatloaf out today. Just not feeling like cooking. I'll think up some veggies for it and have an easy dinner. We've got some errands to run this afternoon and I'm paying a dear price for my indulgences last week. Plus, not feeling super has led to a wee pile of dishes over the weekend that I need to tackle today. I must have misplaced...
  5. That is actually quite interesting and I know a few people have tomato issues and may find that quite helpful. Sadly, my issue is not one that I can address with anything but avoidance at the moment. Until my condition is well under control, tomatoes and I can simply not be friends. I guess I am fortunate that none of my issues are allergies and once things...
  6. I know where I'm going for dinner!
  7. It really does sound a lot like no matter how the test goes, giving the gluten free thing a good go will likely make a huge difference in your life. I am insanely independent, and possibly obnoxiously outspoken. I spent years leaning on my husband for everything. I wasn't really sure what it was, but I just wasn't up to doing all of the doctors and all that...
  8. If he is an undiagnosed celiac who is eating gluten free (not wheat free, gluten free as there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE!), I don't see there being a barrier to weight loss other than the possibility of an additional underlying medical condition. Quite possible though is simply a diet of high calorie smoothies which are pushed as healthy being used instead...
  9. MSG can be naturally occurring in many places, what is more concerning is the added MSG. I do not recall seeing this on any bacon labels. I have an extreme sensitivity to MSG and react within minutes to it as an additive. I have never reacted to it in its naturally occurring state in meats and do not concern myself with this. As always, your mileage may...
  10. Libraries are awesome! Nothing can compare to the smell of one and while I have an ereader, which got me through some of the roughest times when I was so sick I could barely stand to hold even it, nothing can compare to an actual book. Of course, you can't get the classics for free on paper which was my primary reason for my ereader. I've read so many free...
  11. In the end, no matter whether you get the support of doctors or not, you now know without a doubt that gluten is poison to you. That is something at least. And yes, just keep swimming. Because from your signature I know this may help, always remember... when life gets too hard to stand, kneel.
  12. You need the spring and sun and to get out of that frozen tundra! You may miss your new little guy but you have so much to look forward to that you will soon have little time to spend missing him. I'm sure he'll find himself equally distracted, as dogs do. And just think, by the time you come back there may even be some green in your tundra too.
  13. I don't know anyone who would dare to disagree with you. And now simply heating up frozen chicken soup has turned into a project. As soon as it is warm it will end up in a casserole dish with a crust type thing on top and in the oven to become a chicken pot pie. I threw a couple potatoes in the oven to turn into twice baked potatoes that I can just reheat...

    ARCHIVED Dental Horror

You are hysterical! I wish I went to church with a dentist, because that is for sure a good way to make sure you get what you need from people. When they know you know where they live. Yup. People are just better at keeping their word that way. Not only do you know where he lives, but he would have to face you every week, not a pleasant idea for him if things...
  15. I have always been aware that those things are NOT the crap my mother stuffed me with as a child made with coconut. While I enjoyed those coconut thingers, they are not some super amazing thing I would possibly trample people for. I just assumed that it was the sort of instance where two things can have the same name. Nope, the computer just talked me into...
  16. I'm sorry. I type macaron and the spell checker is all RAWR! and tells me I'm an idiot. So, I was like oh, I must be spelling it wrong. I came home from the fair last year and the spell checker was tellin me how stupid I am. So I've been spelling it wrong for a year because the computer called me dumb. At least now I know that when I got home it wasn't a...
  17. I have been drinking buttloads of milk. Like, gallons. When you are hungry but too sore to eat, it really is the best option to keep nutrients and protein in you. Plus I ate that meatloaf the other night. I could just mash it up without having to chew it. I have a spare in the freezer too.
  18. Because I know, they are macaroons. I could spot a macaroon from a mile away. They are an amazing, naturally gluten free, melt in your mouth, French delicacy that will make you wonder how you ever lived without something so amazingly wondrous. I gave my husband a heart attack at the Fire and Ice festival we went to. I spotted a little stand with macaroon...
  19. I'm stuck in this mire of feeding a sometimes GE husband and frankly having little interest myself in food, despite being constantly hungry. It just is not pleasant to chew things, even if I can manage to get through a meal, I shouldn't have to drug myself senseless on painkillers just to eat. I'll probably make him a burger and fries tonight. I'll maybe...
  20. I add sugary sauces when the meat is either fully or mostly cooked. I just kind of feel it out with each recipe. I cook the meats with a liquid sauce first and add the thick sauces later. It is more complicated, but I don't burn them either. Maybe other people have other solutions. Totally unrelated, but I used to have a problem with everyone in the house...
  21. With sugary things, it can really be dependent on a lot of things. For instance, I do a pulled pork and cover the pork in non-diet root beer made with cane sugar. Never had a problem. But, once I shred it and cover it in BBQ sauce, there is a limit to how long I can let it cook before it will crisp the sugar around the edges. The time also depends on which...
  22. My husband is working an evening tonight, which is rare for him, so we are having an early dinner. I threw a couple potatoes in the oven a while ago and we'll grill some chicken breasts when he gets up from his nap soon. I'm sure I can find some other vegetable for me to eat too. I may just wait until later and have an evening snack of roasted brocciflower...
  23. I have found that I get very severe pains in my stomach that are only alleviated by not letting it empty fully after a glutening. Eating very much also distresses me greatly. I simply graze lightly all day on whatever sounds or feels good, either physically or emotionally. Half an apple and a smidge of peanut butter, a teeny bowl of soup, sometimes just small...
  24. I have always been quite careful with cutting my pineapples. Not because of any awareness of them being toxic if they aren't ripe, but because they are freakin expensive and taste bad if they aren't. I just drop them into a paper sack and roll it up and put them in a corner somewhere until they are beautiful and gold and smell like awesomeness. I haven't...
