The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

Regardless of political nonsense that people need to get over themselves about, it is only appropriate for the president to reach out in a time like this. Regardless of our political affiliations we should all appreciate that he did so with grace and compassion. Too sore to really eat, even though my roast was literally falling apart. I managed to eat... -

I do not do humidity. Like... ever. There is simply no excuse for water in the air. Utah is beautiful year round. Plus we have skiing. Lots of people say we have the best snow on earth, better than CO anyway, all they get is our leftovers. I don't do snow either, but I can keep the cocoa hot for the snow bunnies all winter long. Plus we have Moab and... -
I was stupid enough today to call on my "lunch break." (I use that term loosely as today was a day from absolute hell.) I explained the situation and said I needed to see the other dentist to finish my bridge. They are trying to tell me that I have to see the one who started it to finish it. I had an anxiety attack, at work, in the 10 minute break between...

I really thought I had found a gem of a doctor. I am not ready to give up but I left my last appointment pretty mad. He talked about his doctor freind who has celiac and knew so much at my first appointment. Then, at my second appointment he actually said to me "everybody cheats." Um.... sorry, apparently you never met someone who takes having a serious autoimmune...

I can't eat before I go, but it has never been a problem before. I get extremely nauseous with my anxiety and if I eat before I go I will just vomit until I am dry heaving. No amount of meds help with that, and I really shouldn't be mixing dramamine or prescription nausea meds with being gassed anyway. If I fall asleep they would probably freak out. Not that...

I agree that Teva is good, they always answer the phone when I call too. I've been told a few times that I have called Apotex that they are a gluten free manufacturer. That makes me pretty comfortable and I have decided to call them no more than once a year now, if that. They may even be the company I recall having that listed on their website. There are... -

Yes, happy birthday! And I think we should all get chairs. We can mod them and have a little race track next to the walking path so we don't mow anyone down on our way to eat. First one there has to set the table, last one has to clear. -

He is responsible for being the grown up here, not her, but she is the one left suffering. (He may be as well, but he brought it on himself so frankly, who gives a crap?) Because of her age, and depending on her maturing level, this may be an opportunity for her to learn how to talk to someone she cares about about a difficult topic. This shouldn't be her... -

I have a beautiferous hunk of cow at home in the crock pot. I am hoping he comes out tender and juicy so I can eat him, as my mouth is so messed up that I may end up on a liquid or super soft foods diet for a few weeks. Flaming pissed doesn't begin to describe how I feel about my results from yesterday's appointment. When none of the pain was resolving by... -
First, a little backstory because otherwise I'll just be interrupting myself to fill in these blanks later. About 10(ish) years ago after a workplace injury to my shin that left me numb down the front of my left across the top of my foot and through two of my toes I saw a neurologist. Because the numbness wasn't where it "should" be, he explained to me that...

I miss chili so much! That sounds amazing. I really hope to be able to have beans again eventually, I find that to be one of the most limiting things of my diet. -
ARCHIVED Is Mister Softee Gluten Free?
Adalaide replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Whey is the leftover liquid from cheese making and is safe. Carrageenan is seaweed. As for the safety of getting soft serve from an ice cream truck? Questionable at best, not something I would be doing although others may have different opinions. You'll want to check out the newbie thread if you haven't already. It has links to lists of safe ingredients... -

I survived the dentist intact. I swear if it weren't for the gas I would probably have a panic attack when he sticks that needle in me. I don't know why they bother with that stupid crap on a stick to make it hurt less, doesn't do a thing to stop it from hurting so bad I could punch him in the face and not feel bad. Or maybe that is the gas talking. I... -

I use only Justin's since the first time I tried it for all of my nut butters. Not for any gluten reason, but because they all amazingly delicious in a way no other nut butters I have ever tasted are. It is merely a perk for me that they happen to be certified gluten free. It is also true that many people have reactions that are exactly like a gluten... -
ARCHIVED Finding A Pharmacy And Pharmacist That Will Help
Adalaide replied to KikiB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Pharmacists are very busy people and have a lot of work they are doing, they hardly have time to call every manufacturer for every person who comes in with some special need. I have never once thought that this burden should be on them, for two reasons. The first is that, quite simple, they don't have the time. The second is that unless they also have celiac... -

I would be shouting too if I couldn't have chocolate. Or possibly crying in the car on the way home from the neurologist. I think that afternoon was worse than the celiac thing, because it was just more crap piled on, I am so glad that chocolate doesn't bother me or I'd possibly be in the loony bin by now. -

The only one I have ever picked up has been Living Without. I picked up the holiday issue for some ideas and liked a few of the recipes. Then I picked up the December issue after being on the fence for quite some time about starting baking again and seeing cookies that looked just like my Grammy's on the cover. I was hooked after that. I enjoy the recipes... -

You can chase her into that frozen tundra. Me? I'll stay put where we have more than one season and enjoy my never ending mac & cheese. As for my dental work.... ugh. I do have a good plan though that I got hooked up with while I worked as a tax preparer a few seasons ago. No pre-authorizations. No crap. The dentist bills, they pay. With my limit... -

Burgers and microwave baked taters tonight. I had a side of sliced tomato. I just can't have a good day lately, I'm not sure what is up but I feel like I had a truck ram into my left side about a million times. If I do more than some light cooking and cleaning up after myself and some moseying around the house here and there I end up unable to walk again... -

I was out today to buy pillows and dirt and heard on the radio on my way home. My immediate reaction was to say to my husband "what the f*** is wrong with people?" This was followed by a lot more colorful language about asshats in general. (Great word, I use it frequently.) I pray for a speedy recovery for everyone hurt, physically and otherwise today, and... -

So I'm not the only one who does this? People think I'm a freak, especially since around here the "thing" is fry sauce. Don't get me wrong, fry sauce is good, and I like ketchup too, and some days I might consider selling my soul for just one taste of malt vinegar. But, since I can't have that, I'll take mayo any time! -
All of my daughter's celiac tests came back negative. Finally, frustrated, the GI told her to give up milk and said it could be a lactose intolerance. Pretty quickly her symptoms started to clear up. They included pain in her stomach and guts every time she ate, she had severe insomnia problems, alternating D and C and more I am sure that I am forgetting...

Note: we should all bring a change of clothes. Every once in a while I almost seem smart. There couldn't be any other logical reason for coming back to all that snow, on purpose, every year. I suppose I could have been wrong and you could just be crazy. Change of plans tonight. Hubby wants George for dinner. I think I'll make some of that Brazilian... -

If you have not had those blood tests run, I wouldn't recommend going gluten free until you have. With a small child you can find yourself in a difficult situation later trying to get a diagnosis for them. If they are all negative, ask for a biopsy. With vitamins on the low side of normal, but not having been eating gluten for any significant period of time...
