ARCHIVED Dedicated Facility Cereal
Adalaide replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe, and could be wrong but you can contact them, that some (not all) of the Nature's Path ones are. They make both gluten and gluten free ones and I see some in the store with a "made in" warning which leads me to believe that the remainder are from a dedicated facility although I haven't contacted them to find out. They also do the Envirokidz cerealz... -
ARCHIVED Happy Spring, Fellow Gardeners!
Adalaide replied to notme's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Having grown up on a cow farm, that has always been my Grammy's secret too! The first sign of spring is that the cows are moved out of the barn and we clean it. Then we spread everyone's gardens and all the fields. Then with the ground thawed deep enough we plow them all. We just use a tractor because all the gardens are huge. My MIL's husband always brings... -

Glad your slow cooker thinger is getting some use! Mine is today with a pork roast. I'll also be picking up some Panela at the market and making some fried cheese to use up that berry mustard sauce. One of these days I'll get up the guts to try different types of beans. The few I have tried have all turned out badly and right now I'm just no up to losing... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Pmdd Or Pms?
Adalaide replied to Marie1976's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
With prescriptions and OTC I simply say that in addition to celiac and needing gluten free I also have a wheat allergy and I need to know for sure that the starch and fillers are not wheat derived. I'm annoying like that. Drugs and foods are two whole different ballgames we deal with. -

My chicken nuggets were okay. They weren't fantabulous, but they good. The sort of thing I think I could stand to keep around for when I am just not feeling up to cooking. My spicy blackberry mustard sauce was awesome. I was a little worried because when I first tasted it I thought I was going to take the roof of my mouth off, but a little honey smoothed... -

Always one of my Grammy's favorites. She spends time daily in her garden all spring, summer and fall. -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination...help!
Adalaide replied to mcarmazi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just my two cents, since everyone has already had such wonderful things to share, keep in mind that the FDA has released no official standard in the US for what gluten free means. Which to us means that those words on a package means pretty much nothing. Just because those words are on a package, doesn't mean you don't have to read the ingredients. Some companies...- 7 replies

Oh, and I am going to make sure I touch on the types of cancer linked to celiac that my husband's family has or has had, as well as beating the diabetes thing like a dead horse. I'm quite sure that my husband's family is a cesspool of undiagnosed celiacs. I finally got through to my husband last week, and once we have insurance that will cover his biopsy...

I took the weekend off posting. I just need a break from life. A friend has gone missing this weekend, it is suspected at this point that he may have killed himself. Another lost a fiance to suicide recently. At the end of the month I will spend an entire week focusing on mental health and celiac because I can't take this any more. I can't lose someone else...

ARCHIVED Anyone Have Pmdd Or Pms?
Adalaide replied to Marie1976's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First, the prescription problem. Don't just drop off a prescription then ask a pharmacist if they are safe. Go to the pharmacy, ask what brand they will use to fill the prescription with and for a phone number for that company if possible. (If they don't have a phone number you can get it easily from the internet.) Then, call yourself. Drop the prescription... -
ARCHIVED Zyrtec And Other Allergy Medicines
Adalaide replied to kcorcoran2013's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You know, I wish I could tell you every one I have called on. I've called about a few of allergy meds over the past year, and most recently about liquid pepto. I remember most notably being told in no uncertain terms not to take the Wal-Mart brand pepto (liquid) or claritin. At least they are forthcoming. I figure though that for the money I can save on generics...- 6 replies

Tonight is burgers and fries. I was going to do chicken nuggets but I just can't make up my mind about what kind of sauce I want! I'm far too lazy to make my own nuggets and haven't had any in over a year. Now I feel like Christmas morning. I think I'm leaning towards a spicy mustard berry sauce. Even if that will earn me a weird look from my husband. -

While it has been some time since I checked, if you are into saving a buck (at the time I checked about a year ago) Wal-Mart brand Zyrtec is not safe, while Walgreens brand is. Just what I was told on the phone, as a matter of fact I have been told that a variety of Wal-Mart brand generics are unsafe. Walgreens will sometimes say gluten free on the side of...- 6 replies

I use my KitchenAid mixer for anything I can find an excuse to use it for. I only have one attachment for it at the moment which is the shredder/slicer which I bought for cheese and hash browns because I simply don't have the stamina or strength to shred them by hand. I have often considered getting the grain mill for it but just can't decide if it would...

I can't do anything dark green and leafy. Complicates things for me quite a bit. No swiss chard, spinach, kale, or a dozen other delicious things. I suppose I could try to find out if swiss chard will play nice with me, although I don't hold out much hope for leafy green things. -

Lilacs are the best. Probably the only good thing about being married to my ex was the 3 lilac bushes in the yard, and absolutely nothing can compare to the smell. -

That is a beautiful lasagna! I don't do the spinach thing, but I could make it with asparagus. I don't know that I'll even every try spinach again, it frankly scares the crap out of me as it is what set me off in the first place last summer. Okay. Maybe no one should eat 4 pounds of spinach in a week. But it is so good and I couldn't help myself. Tonight... -

It is warm again here. Our completely neurotic weather hopefully took its last wintery turn and it will stay spring now. I'm practically holding my breath until we can start planting corn. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread - Best Deals
Adalaide replied to GottaSki's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I never thought of bread by the case either! I always just looked for it on sale. I buy everything else in bulk. My husband about died trying to pour a 25 pound bag of Bob's corn starch into a 5 gallon bucket... but it was such a good deal! -
While it took me weeks to stop with the constant alternating C and D, it took me months to stop with the sudden cases of emergency D. (Which can also be caused entirely by stress and anxiety, aside from gluten.) It took me a year until I was going on a normal, regular schedule at more or less the same time every day. This isn't a race, its a marathon. We...

You know, I've never actually broken anything from falling either. I don't think jumping off a swingset when I was like 7 or 8 counts. And I don't mean swinging high and jumping off a swing. I climbed the set onto the top metal pole and jumped off. It was in the yard and my mom yelled at me constantly that if I didn't knock it off I was going to break something... -
I've been shopping at the oriental market since my diagnosis. I love getting rice noodles and other little nuggets there. Things that are just gluten free by nature, and people have been eating them that way since forever without any thought. My husband is always excited to check out the candy and other goodies they import. I guess I can't really blame him...

ARCHIVED Honey Nut Oat Cereal
Adalaide posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The other day I was whining to my husband about how I just want freaking oat cereal, something like honey nut cheerios like I used to eat, and how hard would it be for me to get some? He constantly says that every time I seem to complain about inconsequential things like this, I magically get my way and life reinforces my habit of whining. So literally... -

I wasn't skipping it, I simply have never tried them. I once had a Glutino brand frozen pizza. I do not recommend them, mostly because the crust sucked. The only other ready pizza crust I have ever had I order online from Venice bakery. Those I can not recommend enough! I am beyond excited for their new products to release.
