  1. As long as you are in the US it would by law be required to list that it was from wheat it if was in fact from wheat. It is beyond ridiculously unlikely that it would be from rye or barley... like, ridiculous. It is almost certainly corn or tapioca or potatoes. Just another myth that needs to die. ETA: I guess I could have googled this sooner but Bullseye...
  2. I've heard of other people having issues, I never have. If I get a comment or something from a server I just explain that I have food allergies (because this is easy for them to understand without their eyes glazing over) and I spoke to someone on the phone and unfortunately I can't be provided with a safe meal here. I then say something placating about how...
  3. I won't debate the this that or other thing of fracking. People all have strong opinions about it one way or the other. I will say though that if it eases your mind just a little they don't actually "frack" for uranium. They just dissolve it with water, suck it out and put new water in. (That is very simplified but the basic.) It isn't the hydraulic fracturing...
  4. SLC has way more "stuff" going on than down here in little old nowhere. The way the mountains work though, we get way better weather. If you just buy me a car and pay for gas I'll drive whatever groceries you want right to your door when you win the lottery.
  5. My ex dragged me to the theater to see the first three movies when they were re-released. (First three being the first three made, Episodes 4-6.) I fell asleep halfway through the first one, and the second one. He didn't drag me along to the third one. People still think I'm crazy because my favorite character is Max Rebo. (The blue elephant thing.) I...
  6. There are so many restaurants, many of them local places, that are comparably priced. It just seems silly to risk our health to places like those when we can be treated like individuals and have our needs addressed, possibly by the owner or chef, and come away feeling great and valued as customers. Not just another cog in the machine, thrown in, spat out...
  7. Oh, as fair warning also... door frames here seem to viciously attack me for no apparent reason. I just mind my own business and then suddenly they just slam right into me while I'm walking. This didn't happen to me in PA so I think that door frames in UT are just inherently evil. You've been warned.
  8. I think most aversions the the desert are either that it is brown and dead and just meh looking, or that it is like 500 degrees every day and you just melt the minute you open your front door. Heck, even though I am technically in the desert I am right at the mouth of the Provo canyon and from spring to late fall it is a riot of color and beauty that can...
  9. In situations where it is a group activity I simply decide where I can safely get a meal and get it to go. I then bring it with me to where everyone is going and eat with everyone. Then it avoids the awkwardness that can sometimes come up when one person isn't eating, plus I'm not stuck being hungry.
  10. In N Out - I know it isn't sit down, but sometimes you're out and just need a quick bite. Just be careful on grilled onions, some stores will use the same spatula for onions and buns. They can make you fresh ones if you ask! Rodizio Grill - they can provide you with a gluten free or an allergen menu when they seat you. Nearly everything the serve is gluten...
  11. Utah! We're "sort of" the desert where I am but seriously, I'm in the middle of a city so who would know? And surrounded by mountains covered in trees and we have ginormous lakes. And I'm just far enough south to skip a lot of the snow... most years. And we have no humidity. Dear God I would never live where there is humidity again. We have the dryness of...
  12. We all have those days when it seems like the entire world is against us. I don't do credit cards myself, and don't do banking at banks since they all want to charge me like a bazillion dollars a month just to have my money. So, when I got a "job" as a sub teacher at the college and had to set up direct deposit I found an out. I set up a Western Union...
  13. Mothers have been emotionally blackmailing their children for untold centuries. Besides, in the words of every mother who has ever done this to her child... "its for your own good!"
  14. Hubs is working tonight til 8 so we have a very small window to eat and get out of the house. Burgers and fries and out the door when he gets home. It may not be healthy, but it will get us through our night. I forgot to get up early to do errands before the middle of the day. Oops. I guess I can go this evening before dinner. Last night I was standing...
  15. I live by the motto of every label, every time. I'm buying something I bought last week? I read the label. I'm buying more than one of something? I read all the labels. At home when I pick something up in the pantry, if I can't remember the actual store trip when I purchased something, I read the label. Eventually it will become second nature. And just...
  16. IDK you guys, sounds like the sort of thing that could be contagious. I managed to get my mint in pots and all three (short) rows of corn in the ground tonight. My husband probably thinks I'm a little weird for gardening barefoot. Oh well, he can think what he likes. I like walking in the dirt in my bare feet.
  17. OMG you guys are crack me up! Two summers ago my husband and I started watching with Next Gen, we made it through every series except the original because that one is just not our cup of tea. Besides, we've probably both seen every episode like 5 times in our lives anyway. We even watched Enterprise. (shudder) I still get flak from friends when I...
  18. I'm super excited. When I went to get copies of my MRI and CT from last summer they apparently were having issues with something and while my disc should have been ready when I got there it took nearly an hour for it to be ready. In exchange for my wait I got 2 movie tickets. Now, we have a $1 theater in town for second run movies (on Tuesdays anyway, the...
  19. I had some errands today that couldn't be put off. It seems I have decided to become allergic to the sun. I have a positively beautiful rash from it. I don't think I want to play the is it just from exposure or is it from a product/food and exposure combo game. I will simply avoid the sun midday. Now that I am home, and totally beat I am just going to...
  20. That is super exciting news! Hopefully she'll be feeling better soon.
  21. I have no advice, but have this.... ((((surviormom))))
  22. Stretch Island Fruit Leather.... omg! We buy it at Costco. I can't eat half the flavors that come in the box these days, which is fine because my husband loves them all. For some sick twisted reason though they don't put the mango ones in the huge box, I have to get those at the health food store. Also, Orville Redenbacher Naturals popcorn single serve...
  23. God knows we've all made mistakes, some more than others. There have been times I have had to be beat over the head with my mistakes to learn a lesson. In the past year and a half I have found myself out of the house and hungry, either without the budget for food (not no money, simply not money budgeted for food) or without somewhere to get something to eat...
  24. Having been a member here since 2009, there has been sufficient time to learn how to stock a pantry and refrigerator, how to eat and how to be healthy. There is only a certain amount of coddling that can be done when a celiac is intentionally ingesting gluten before what they need is a wake up call and/or swift kick in the pants to help them realize they...
  25. I'll take it! I'm totally certifiable I guess. On top of the hot weather I decided to flip on the oven and make meatloaf tonight. I also made pasta with a ricotta sauce which my husband wouldn't go near. Apparently he has a delicious food intolerance.
