ARCHIVED Testing In 5 Year Old Who Is Gluten-Lite?
Mom-of-Two replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think that's what I'll try- it varies and some days he has a lot- today they had pretzels for snack at school and it was a birthday so also had cookies- and then breaded chicken when out this afternoon. Maybe I will wait and do it in 3 weeks The reason I wonder if it is enough time in a child that is already eating gluten, is that the reverse happened... -
ARCHIVED Testing In 5 Year Old Who Is Gluten-Lite?
Mom-of-Two posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So, I got my celiac diagnosis a year ago, my 8.5 year old has been gluten-free 6 months and just had her follow up- her ttg in normal range (was 80) and she is now EMA negative (was positive 6 months ago). Her vitamin D also doubled and she appears to be absorbing perfectly now- I took my 5 year old along to the appt because he is having tummy aches, he complains... -
I have had Chipotle probably 50 times since being gluten-free, so maybe I'm an expert it is all about the people handling your food- you have to be assertive in asking them to be safe, when you order- my husband usually gets the order since it's usually eaten at home, he makes them wash hands, change gloves, they also get new spoons, and fresh cheese from...

ARCHIVED 6-Month Follow Up Test Results
Mom-of-Two replied to rami's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter had her 6 month follow up a few days ago! Her ttg went from 78 to 10 (<20 is negative), she tested negative on endomysial antibody (she was 4 times positive 6 months ago), her vitamin D was low 6 months ago at 27 and is now 52! She has gained 6 lbs total, but only about an inch (her growth was not affected though before). Joint pain gone. ... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Suppliments-How Much?
Mom-of-Two replied to 1974girl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 8 yo was low on vitamin D (27) with her celiac labs- today was her 6 month follow up and I'm happy to say she's now at 53 the GI doc fully believes she wasn't absorbing the vitamin D before and with the gluten-free diet past 6 months she's absorbing so much better- she gets 2500 units per day. -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Suppliments-How Much?
Mom-of-Two replied to 1974girl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 5 yo gets 1000-2000, and 500 in multi. 8 yo (celiac) gets 2000 in drops and 500 extra in multi- she was low at 27 time of diagnosis. Hubby and I take 6000 daily, both low. Best thing is to know your levels- no one should follow the minuscule 400 unit suggestion, horribly outdated!!! As a general rule, at least 1000 per 25 lbs. -
ARCHIVED Question For "symptomless" Celiacs
Mom-of-Two replied to rami's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter has been gluten free for 5 months and not experienced any stomach aches, or any other symptoms that I can associate to eating accidental gluten. However our house is gluten free (I have celiac as well). She packs a lunch, only has snacks I send, etc so I suppose her risk of exposure is slim, but, she had no GI symptoms prior either- she was only... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Halloween Treats
Mom-of-Two replied to nvsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sooo much candy is gluten free- we did trick or treat last night, came home and made piles- I am lucky that my daughter has such a wonderful attitude and is totally accepting of her diet and never feels excluded- she focuses on the things she CAN have which I think is an amazing quality, she has done way better in her 3 months gluten free than I am doing... -
ARCHIVED What Is A Good Probiotic?
Mom-of-Two replied to AandGsmomma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am curious about switching probiotics on a regular basis- I have been giving my kids Culturelle for years- daily, for immune health. Makes a huge difference and they are very healthy kids. I asked my GI doc about this issue and sent an email to Culturelle, both said there is no reason to change strains- and Culturelle is the only one with LGG so I just... -
ARCHIVED Any Almost Symptomless Young Kids Test Positive?
Mom-of-Two replied to Metoo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter tested positive to our shock after we had them both tested following my own disgnosis 8 mos ago. No abdominal symptoms or indications of anything wrong, very healthy. She had a normal biopsy, however tested pos on her ttg labs and pos for the endomysial antibody, also vitamin D deficient. She has been strictly gluten free for 3 months, and gained... -
ARCHIVED Do You Get A Flu Shot?
Mom-of-Two replied to luvs2eat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had the flu vax every year for about 11 years, my hubby was Army so he's had flu vax for like 20 years. Kids get them too. This year not sure on mist vs shot or them, my pediatrician says mist is more effective in children. But live vs killed virus, more side effects and high fever likely so I am on the fence. Neither of us have ever had side effects... -
ARCHIVED Any Celiacs Out There Have Their Gallbladders Removed (Cholecystectomy)?
Mom-of-Two replied to Invictus's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I highly suspect my gallbladder is an issue, however I do not have stones or anything visible and I do not want that sucker out unless absolutely necessary! I do not have severe pain or anything that would lead me to act urgently, in fact the symptoms have been hanging around for years now. It is what got me a celiac diagnosis 7 months ago. I had bloating... -
ARCHIVED Positive Bloodwork But Negative Biopsy In My 7Yo Need Advice!
Mom-of-Two replied to M817's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 8 year old also had positive labs (including endomysial antibody), and I myself have celiac- she was only tested because of my own diagnosis. Her biopsy was normal, they took plenty of samples and her cell counts and everything were normal, first GI told me no celiac, no damage, keep her on regular diet and retest in 6 months. I was stunned by this advice... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy For A Second Child With Positive Blood Test?
Mom-of-Two replied to Mdhriggin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter is 8 and only been gluten free a couple months (already gained 3 lbs we only found out after I was diagnosed back in Jan. no real symptoms in her (vitamin D deficiency) but she is happier and healthier than ever gluten free, has no problems and all and basically no transition. Retest 4 months from now and also see if her D is up. My youngest... -
ARCHIVED How Long Until You Can Tell If You Have Been Glutened?
Mom-of-Two replied to Mom2-2girls's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been gluten free for 7 months and have not had any episodes of glutening that I am aware of. My daughter has been gluten free about 2 months and not a problem yet. We are super careful though and the only food we eat out is Chipotle which I've had 20 or more times since being gluten-free with never an issue, they are super accomadating. I think... -

ARCHIVED Vitamins Not Digesting
Mom-of-Two replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am unsure of the vitamin issue but just wanted to comment that it can be hard to find a very supportive dr- I am lucky that I did, and she really treats me with the full spectrum- meaning, she tetss my vitamin levels, looks for any other complications of celiac, follows up every 3 months (it will go to once a year after this next visit, assuming it shows... -
ARCHIVED Kids Cold/pain Products!
Mom-of-Two replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So there I was at Target today, and saw their brand of nighttime cold stuff (same as Triamic, Dimetapp, and the Benadryl cold/sinus stuff I had bought- all same ingredients. Only this Target brand, big green gluten free label! And it was under three bucks! So I returned the other stuff to my Walgreens and saved $16. Lesson learned! You never do know!... -
ARCHIVED Dr Says Not Celiac, I'm Not Sure
Mom-of-Two replied to mama.liz07's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would not take gluten out until AFTER you get results because if his labs are positive, they will want you to biopsy him which is your call but you have to keep him on gluten to see the damage. Good luck!!! -
ARCHIVED Kids Cold/pain Products!
Mom-of-Two replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, Dimetapp and Benadryl are on the list there (although they don't test) -
You may need B vitamins! I have had this issue for years, cracking/soreness on corners of lips- I will heal it and then it starts again in just a few days. My dentist even told me it was lack of B or C vitamins- this was before I knew I had celiac, after I found out and started supplementing with a B complex, the sore lips never returned. What I take is Country...

ARCHIVED Dr Says Not Celiac, I'm Not Sure
Mom-of-Two replied to mama.liz07's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When I discovered I had celiac 8 months ago, my primary dr (who ran the labs) said I did NOT need to have my kids tested unless they had symptoms. I then went to my specialist for celiac, and she had a whole other story- suggesting both kids be tested, due to the genetics. She also said we should test them every few years, and that it is not true that all... -

So, Tylenol replies that the gluten information for Children's Tylenol is not available, and they no longer have a gluten free list. They state that their testing used to be performed by an outside laboratory using the ELISA test kit, this only related to the products that they had tested. Which does not include the Tylenol. I guess I will return that... -
ARCHIVED More Questions From A Newbie........
Mom-of-Two replied to rami's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have always heard that children heal very fast- no, his intestines have not healed, but his numbers will likely drop significantly by follow up, giving you a good indication. My 8 year old had been on a restricted diet at home only, since I have celiac and we had made the house gluten-free- she had a blood test 2 weeks later and her tTG number had fallen...
